Famous Freedom Fighter Sri Ramchandra Moreshwar Karkare <Advocate> of Gwalher Madhya Bharat, from inspiration of Netaji S.C.Bose, had written and published a Drama-(Natak)in Hindi, a very popular book, Jai Hind.

Currently army and paramilitary soldiers in India use this salutation to address the officers of superior rank.

those are actually two words..

Jai is like praising like to "salute"..

Hind is referred to India aka Hindustan..
