"All the guests have arrived Sir. Just the Chief Minister is left. Her secretary called up earlier. She would be here in a couple of minutes."
"Alright. Make sure everything's perfect when she arrives. Keep up the good work Sharon."
"Thank you Sir."
Sharon's boss gave her an approving nod and made his way towards his guests. Sharon stuffed the earpiece back into her ear and started walking towards the entrance gate in a lopsided manner. She wasn't used to wearing the stilletos along with a gown. But this was a high profile party where all men were suited up and all the ladies dressed in elegant dresses. She was dressed in a full sleeved white crop top, with a lavender long skirt below. As she ambled through the crowd, she tripped on a fold of the carpet and would have crashed headlong on the ground if it were not for the hand around her waist. Sharon felt herself being pulled up and found herself facing Swayam Shekawat, the founder of the successful start-up company. Her boss never lost any chance to praise him. And now here he was, in front of her, with a calm and serene smile on his boyish face.
"Thank you."
"No problem."
An awkward pause followed in which a cackle of static followed by a voice buzzed in Sharon's ears.
"The Chief Minister's arrived ma'am. Should i inform Sir?"
"Yes, yes ofcourse."
Sharon looked back at Swayam. He had the same smile still struck on his face.
"Er. I have to go Mr. Shekawat. Thank you once again."
He nodded in reply and as Sharon reached the gate, she saw her boss welcome the Chief Minister who looked splendid in a sari. Just as she entered, the lights of the hall dimmed and the orchestra turned to the violin, playing a soothing piece. Sharon's mouth hung open as she saw her boss escort the CM to the centre and waltz with her. Slowly, everyone around were waltzing while she stood there, gaping around like an idiot.
"Excuse Me." She felt a tap on her shoulder. It was Mr. Shekakwat. He had his hand held out and Sharon cast him an appraising look. Without waiting for her answer, he snaked his arm around her waist and ushered her to a good spot, taking her in a dance. Sharon stared at him baffled and blushed slightly when he winked at her. Time flowed for them and after a while, Swayam's coat beeped. He fished out his phone and a frown appeared on his face.
"What happened?"
"Ah. Work, miss. I have to leave now."
"Oh. Yes, sure."
Swayam Shekawat leaned in and kissed her on her cheek, making her gasp. He passed her a kind smile and rushed out of the hall. Sharon stared at his retreating back, smiling widely.
"Miss Sharon Rai Prakash?"
She found a butler with an envelope in his hand.
"Yes?"
"Mr. Swayam Shekawat asked to hand this over to you."
Sharon opened to envelope to find a note and Swayam Shekwat's business card. Looking at the card with confusion, she opened the note and read it, her cheeks going red and her smile wider as she did so.
"Miss Sharon Rai Prakash.
The party being your boss's doesn't give you any excuses to ignore your boyfriend. If you hadn't been so gorgeous tonight, I wouldn't have even communicated with you.
I've given you my card. You have an appointed scheduled for me tomorrow 10 AM. I expect you to show up.
Swayam Shekawat
P.S. I cannot tolerate latecomers.
P.P.S. love you."
