THE GIFT
"Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday dear Swayam. Happy birthday to me."
Swayam slumped his head back into the pillow, heaving a huge sigh. To be honest, he was exhausted. He stood up and trudged towards the cupboard. A wave of warmth surged though him as he opened it. Looking at her face brought happiness to his sad soul. Her smile brought him to life, made him feel alive. Her dance inspired him to do something. In the 3 months of Sharon's absence Swayam had dreamt of them, how they would spend their evenings when she would return. How they would celebrate each other's birthdays and how Sharon would fall in love with him. But every dream was crushed as he saw her behaviour towards him. Staring at her beautiful face, he sighed again.
"Why are you so complicated Sharon?"

Sharon tossed around in her bed. Sleep did not come to her today. It was March 7, Swayam's birthday and her hands were itching to pick up the mobile and call him. Sadly, she couldn't as she had promised herself that she would stay away from Swayam. Sharon stared at her ceiling and wondered how difficult her life could get. First she finds this amazing boy who loves her selflessly and knows her deeply. She ignores him due to her ego problems and when she finally mellows down and gives him a chance, an illness comes over breaking the very basic bond between them; dance. A tiny voice inside her told her to just wish him and be done with it, but Sharon knew if she did that he would see through her and get her back with double the efforts. Exhausted by the struggle in her mind, Sharon pulled over the blanket and dozed off.

"Thanks Mom. Yeah, I had my breakfast. Hold on mom, someone's at the door...Sharon?"
Swayam blinked twice to make sure she was really there. And there she was, dressed in white with an awkward look on her face. She barged in without waiting for him to say something and looked around the house, apparently searching for someone/thing.
"I'll call you later mom. Bye."
"Sharon?"
Sharon turned around and looked at him with a cold stare. She saw his eyes sparkle, looking at her. "I came here for professional purposes. Don't get your hopes high for something which is not possible."
There she went again. Snubbing him on purpose, trying to get him hate her. Any other day, Swayam would get slightly annoyed but today, seeing Sharon in his home had left no place for anger. Knowing Sharon, she just wouldn't come here just for work, not when she was avoiding him.
"So...what professional purpose?"
Sharon saw him take a step towards her with a tiny hint of a smile coming up. She backed a few steps only to realise that the table was right behind her. She leaned back as Swayam leaned over her, her heart racing looking at those eyes. What was she thinking? Coming over here.
"Err...er."
"Sharon...please"
She took in a deep breath. a part of her screamed to not do it and hurt him further but the other part told her to just do it, make him happy for the day.
"Happy birthday Swayam." She breathed and rushed to the door, stopping for an instant.
Dazed, Swayam turned around with a heartfelt smile on his face to see Sharon at the doorway, shooting a backward glance at him before taking off. The look in her eyes; that was his gift.
