Payphone - Maroon 5
I'm at a payphone trying to call home
All of my change, I've spent on you
Where have the times gone?
Baby, it's all wrong
Where are the plans we made for two?
Yeah, I, I know it's hard to remember
The people we used to be.
it's even harder to picture
That you're not here next to me
The phone was ringing. She wipe her tears and picked up. Who could be calling now?; Everyone important who had the house number knew that there was a wedding at the hall and it was all hands on deck to get everything organized. Her mother was the best person to contact anyways, if there was a problem and her phone was attached to her person like a third hand.
"Hello? Who's speaking?"
You say it's too late to make it
But is it too late to try?
And in our time that you wasted
All of our bridges burned down
I've wasted my nights
You turned out the lights
Now I'm paralyzed
Still stuck in that time when we called it love
But even the sun sets in paradise.
He leant his head back against the wall and closed his eyes, tears flowing. It had been too long since he'd heard her voice. It was a soothing balm over his aching soul, he wished all he could do was listen to her voice till he was no longer craving for that sweet sound. His thoughts were broken by her repeated question;
"Hello? Hello? Is anyone there? If you're looking for Ma call on her phone. Hello? Say something. Why did you call if you didn't want to say anything? Time wasters!"
Then all he heard was the dial tone.
I'm at a payphone trying to call home
All of my change, I've spent on you
Where have the times gone?
Baby, it's all wrong
Where are the plans we made for two?
If happy ever after did exist
I would still be holding you like this
All those fairy tales are full of it
One more stupid love song, I'll be sick
She felt like it was him on the phone, there was a sense of peace within her; But why would he call her? He had finished the relationship, he had not stopped her even once when she asked for a divorce, almost getting her married off to someone else and had only agreed to let go of that senseless idea when with a heavy heart she told him that she would never see him or anyone in his family again.
You turned your back on tomorrow
'Cause you forgot yesterday
I gave you my love to borrow
But you just gave it away
You can't expect me to be fine
I don't expect you to care
I know I said it before
But all of our bridges burned down
I've wasted my nights
You turned out the lights
Now I'm paralyzed
Still stuck in that time when we called it love
But even the sun sets in paradise.
She turned on the radio and decided to pack up all her things; she was moving in two days to Kashmir to teach in an all girls school; it was a positive step; towards independence; towards forgetting that she had been married. She's left her magalsutra with him and had stopped applying sindoor; it was all like how it was before they got married; till she heard the song they danced to for Aliyah's sangeet play on radio; She broke down again as the memories came back. He never realised, she thought with regret, that it was always him; her feelings for him would never come to surface, he would never know.

He should have said something, anything to make her listen to what he had to say. He knew it was too little, too late what he wanted to do, but his heavy heart would only feel lighter if he told her how really and truly sorry he was; for not listening to her; not believing her; not trusting her; not telling her he loved her; not wanting to understand that what he saw in her eyes was the truth and not magic. Well it was magic, he thought with a wry smile, he got lost in her deep soulful eyes and he forgot the cruel world for those few moments.
Man, f*** that s**t
I'll be out spending all this money
While you're sitting 'round wondering
Why it wasn't you who came up from nothing
Made it from the bottom
Now when you see me I'm stuntin'
And all cars start with the push of a button
Telling me the chances I blew up or whatever you call it
Switch the number to my phone so you never could call it
She breathed in the fresh, cold air, her face towards the warm sun soaking in the warmth on her face even as the rest of her felt the chill moving in.
" Ma'am, you'd better come in before you fall sick."
"I'm coming. It's beautiful here." Pulling her thick cardigan closer to her frame, she walked towards the office, to get all the paperwork sorted out before she could officially start teaching. She knew she would find the peace she so needed here, once she threw herself in her work. Memories would dim, he would move on, be with the person he wanted to always be with and she would have her selective happy memories that she would remember with fondness. She had changed her number; she didn't need any contact with anyone from that old life.
Don't need my name on my show, you can tell it I'm ballin
Swish, what a shame, could have got picked
Had a really good game but you missed your last shot
So you talk about who you see at the top
Or what you could have saw
But sad to say it's over for
Phantom pulled up, valet open doors
Wiz like go away, got what you was looking for
Now it's me who they want
So you can go and take that little piece of s**t with you
Bulbul told her he had spoken to her. He had called home and had broken down before she could say anything and told her everything. How sorry he was for mistrusting her; for taunting her; for degrading her; for hating her; and he regretted not asking for forgiveness when he had the chance, but he cannot think of a life without her.
Her heart ached for the person she still loved, but she knew there was no sense in going back to that world. His sister and her best friend would never let them live in peace. There would be more misunderstandings, more fights, a dilemma for him if he ever had to chose between her and his sister and she was scared that his decision would shatter her already broken heart.
She wanted to give him a second chance. She really did, but she needed time and she needed to know that his feelings for her were genuine so she did what she thought she would never do and she called him up.

"Hello?"
"Hi Pragya, its Abhi."
" You won't call me Chashmish today?" she said with a smile on her face.
"Chashmish, how are you? how was your day? what has been happening? I've recorded a new song. I want you to listen to it later and tell me what you think" Abhi said lying in bed, looking at the photo she had sent him two weeks ago from wherever she was.
Now I'm at a payphone.
It was that time of the day, the time he looked forward to the most; he dialed her number and waited for her to pick up the phone, knowing one day she would come back to him and tell him what he most longed to hear.
