These long-running TV shows need to go off-air

Most shows on Indian television start on a promising note but gradually become predictable and unexciting. We take a look at daily soaps that we wish not to see next year onwards -

They say all good things must come to an end. We say bad and blah things must end sooner. But, it is a sad reality that many Indian television soaps, which are weapons of mass torture masquerading as entertainment, continue well beyond their expiry date. All this, especially when reality shows and limited episode series are increasingly proving to be the viewers' choice.

Moreover, heartwarming stories from across the border " 'Zindagi Gulzar Hai' and 'Aunn Zara', to name a few " are giving tough competition to Indian shows that offer a hugely unappetising platter of unconvincing stories. Some of the longest running shows on different channels are resorting to the same old tried and tested twists, kitchen counter politics and time leaps " even though many of them started on a promising note. As the new year nears and it's time to make way for new beginnings, -

'Balika Vadhu'

Started: 2008
It's time to go: The story of child marriage instantly struck a chord with the audience and continued with its good run when it first took a time leap and introduced grown-up lead actors. The show looked promising and did take up issues such as widow remarriage, forced marriage, adult education, lack of medical facilities in villages and so on. However, over the years, the show has become monotonous and it is high time that they said goodbye to Indian audiences. Pretty please! -

Don't know why they need to say pretty please take the show off the air😛

Remote is there in our hands it is very well with in our hands whether to watch the show or not.
If we don't like it just switch channels.Like they themselves have said there is a lot of stuff to chose from. Nobody put a gun on the viewer's head and told him/her to watch the show.

The channel and PH will air the show as long as it brings them business and the viewer can decide whether he wants to see it or not after all it's a free country and we all have right to make our choices.

Thanks for sharing

The show has tackled many social issues including some real eye opening ones. But at the same time the show has started to offer too many repetitive and unconvincing tracks lately.
The show has lost too many actors that formed the original star cast and lot of replacements have happened.

The stories of the two major characters Jagya and Anandi have nearly come to end.

I would not mind for the show to go off air by concluding the existing tracks and ending it on a note of Anandi's pregnancy before the new year begins.

BV has been a great show and will leave fond memories on the minds of its audience.

While audiences can always make their choices, I think it would be nice if the creatives who have come up with such a great show like BV, could invest their time into creating a fresh concept / fresh show instead of continuing milking the cow that has already given enough.

A fresh show / concept would mean, attracting a larger portion of audience and getting them to re-invest their time, which currently the audience is not investing into.

A fresh concept would bring excitement and also the star cast gets to try on different facets of acting rather than becoming stereo type.

And of course a better TRP and commercial success at the end of it.

Ultimately, it's a win-win for everyone.

Ideally I too would like to see the show concluded on a positive note if they have exhausted the issues they wanted to take up.
Anandi's story has been left hanging for so many months. Would like to see her story told in an unhurried manner without dragging it and show it any steady pace and end it.Especially if they want the protagonist of their show Anandi to be remembered as a woman who tried to make adifference with her progressive thinking and decisive acts they should focus on that aspect and create a few good tracks and end it along with her having her own baby.

I think they have already started taking steps in that direction.

As for ending show which is fetching them decent numbers even if it is no longer reigning the charts is a risky business decision. After all lives do depend on the business that show brings. So we can't just say end the show because we are bored. For us it is only entertainment but for people involved in bring it to us everyday to our living rooms it is bread and butter.

Everyday there is news about atleast one show winding up because it failed to click with audience and for lack of TRPs and in that kind of scenario they have to be quite careful about pulling it off air when it is making them money.
Actors may move on to another project writers get some more shows but what about the people who are spot boys and other studio helps? etc

I for one would not mind BV continuing as long as the writers, producers and the channel think that they have something to offer to the viewers worth their time.

The very fact that BV, even after 6.5 long years continues to grab the eyeball of viewers, whether by force of habit or due to its understated yet generally effective manner of storytelling, which is way different from many really loud and unrealistic stories being told on TV, is a feat in itself.

Balika Vadhu, from the time of its inception has been a method of story telling that believes in showing the after effects of ongoing old-fashioned traditions, hoping to make the people sit up and take notice. Which is why they started the serial with a small girl getting wed at a tender age and how this one action affected her entire life.

While that story has nearly come to its completion, that girl's connect with the audience is what the writers hope to use in order to tackle other issues.

Current track involving Nandu is another case in point. It is a good and valid issue not handled earlier.

So long as the writers have these societal issues that they can effectively relate through their protagonists, Balika Vadhu can continue.

Personally, I like BV over any other show (drama) that I have seen. I start the show, watch it for few episodes and then switch off as they are rather too loud and unrealistic while BV is far more subtle and believable.
However, currently the show is a hotch potch with too many tracks, characters, lack of precision and repetitiveness. Something is not right .

While BV still has the most interesting themes, the show isn't as crisp or gripping as it was earlier.

Just my POV

I completely agree with you on this as even I find myself in the same boat as you are in. I start watching a show then find it rather too loud or taking unrealistic twists and turns and stop watching the show. More importantly I find myself comparing that show with BV and find it wanting in several aspects😆

BV is no longer what it used to be and still is much better than most of the shows that are on air currently and it says a lot about the quality of entertainment that we have today.Quite pathetic actually.

LOL
BV can run as a quality show even now and no one will wish it to end it if they stop over focussing on side stories and stop being obsessed with certain characters only for whom they are ruining the show and give leads quality tracks i cannot believe this same show which back when it started had a huge cast and still they managed to balance tracks for everyone Now from quite a time there is no balance between leads JaGan are facing constant injustice Their tracks are rushed Dadisaa who is no lead is given over focus and tracks are given to her which is making BV boring and blunderous because cvs are not afraid to even make blunders and give regressive messages to force tracks around her Many important characters are disappeared and not be seen anywhere the likes of Sugna , Shyam , Khajan Singh and Bhairon and Sumitra added in the list too There is no proper logical explanation for their disappearance Replacement after replacement They are not willing to give deserving scope to a lead character which they promised , which the character deserves but ready for a replacement and disappoint viewers

With the kind of behavior they have opted People will wish it to end

Balika Vadhu was all about child marriage and its ill effects that theme is done and dusted now Leads have moved on so what is the storyline of serial right now ?JaAn lives with their soul mates Their professional life but what they are showing in it? AnSh fans might be convinced with the way AnSh story is dealt so i will not comment on it but what is for me to watch as a JaGan fan who is also a lead couple? Their story is rushed Given deserved and needed detail to it right now BV would have enough story but no they rushed it Right now they show on and off short tracks for them otherwise they are giving over focus to meaningless side stories

Right now over all BV has no solid plot or storyline They show some logical short tracks then back to filler side tracks which are poorly executed and only show it is to drag serial to endless with so much detail given to it They keep doing replacements in the serial Have no respect for the actors and viewers and with never ending replacements viewers lose connection with the character is it the same character ?

BV cvs don't remember their own storyline and keep showing such big blunders Giving Dadisaa credit for Sugna's marriage was heights They think viewers are fools who have forgot about it ?

Know they are not going to end it since the cow is giving them milk but with their behavior it will soon stop giving them milk and die then they can sit with the dead cow and mourn and they can only blame themselves for it
