It is no coincidence that Kangana Ranaut, who plays one of the protagonists in Rensil D'Silva's Ungli, is nowhere to be seen in any of the promotional events for the film.
Kangana seems to have taken a conscious decision to keep her distance, perhaps in deference to her newlydiscovered solo- heroine star status after Queen.
Director Rensil D'Silva admits Kangana is missing in the lineup of protagonists promoting Ungli.
Apparently, repeated attempts to get her to participate in the promotion have failed.
But Rensil won't speculate on the reasons for her absence.
" She told us she's shooting. So be it. She's a lady and I don't want to get into any unpleasant situation with her. Besides, Queen proves what a fabulous actress she is and we all have the greatest regard for her talent," says Rensil.
Rensil feels it's impossible to make an ensemble film is India. " I wouldn't say it's because our actors have massive egos which comes in the way of their collective participation in any film. Hollywood actors too have egos. Yet they're able to work together in harmony in ensemble films. No, I feel our actors are still encumbered by an outdated importance attached to the footage offered to the character," he adds.
Rensil is all praise for the biggest star in Ungli. " Emraan Hashmi and also Randeep Hooda had no hassles working with one another and the rest of the cast. All five protagonists are in it together." Rensil now wants to show Ungli to Kangna. " I want to invite her to see how well her role has turned out. I also want to show it to Emraan as he has been shooting abroad and not seen anything in my film."
