Happy Ending movie review

Happy Ending movie review
FONT SIZE

The overconfidence proves costly especially if you are a writer. After watching Happy Ending one would have to believe or rather say s/he would make out a new saying, Your small mistake can turn you into a bad movie scriptwriter'.

Stars- Saif Ali Khan, Ileana D'Cruz, Govinda
Director- Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K.
Music- Sachin-Jigar

Happy Ending not entirely hit bang on this new developed saying but definitely takes a dig on movies, which are deemed to be non-sensible just to satisfy the entertainment' lust of the audience who doesn't bother to put much brains to find logics.

A light-hearted yet a satirical take are what director duo of Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. keep in their mind before they begin with Happy Ending and yes they succeed in giving us an end product.

As our onscreen dwindling Bollywood star Armaan (Govinda) says everything has to be simple with a happy ending so that viewers depart from cinemas with a smile on their face, this movie indeed ends happily but with substance to think over.

Happy Ending movie review

Many who would be criticizing the masala flicks will come to know the circumstances under, which the logics-free dramas are made. Here in the form of helpless writer we have Yudi Jaitely (Saif Ali Khan) who despite being a serious emerging author is hit by arrogance. His only written book has brought him wealth, ladies and everything a man could think of. But there is a limitation to everything and Yudi doesn't realize the disaster waiting ahead in his life. He loses fame and along with that he is short of any lavish thing, which he can cheer about.

Realizing all the doors of earnings have closed, Yudi takes the asylum of Bollywood star Armaan who asks him to pen down a clich story for his movie, which hardly should be touched by logics. Now how he takes this new job and pursues with it, is what Happy Ending rolls in.

It's a perfect skill, which director duo carries while portraying a subject, which is rarely served in Indian cinema. Taking a spoof on its own field however doesn't require too much of understanding but what here matters- is the execution.

Happy Ending movie review

Raj and Krishna's last year's directorial Go Goa Gone' too had a subject, however, it ended up in a messy way but this time they present a more original and relevant idea in a light-hearted manner.

Whether its Armaan's forced demand of elements like kisses from Yudi in scripts or Yudi's chemistry with his look alike Yogi.

We laugh on the foolishness and jibe taken on Indian movies and say yes this is what we have been witnessing in Indian movie since years'. The frustration on Yudi's face is the result of the intentional scriptural errors a scriptwriter is compelled to quote down to keep his boss happy.

The curtains are raised and story behind the formulaic cinema is revealed which leaves you in splits. How cleverly both the classes and the masses' are teased to watch the movie is well explained.

Happy Ending movie review

What make this movie more interesting are the usual and genuine performances of the actors. Saif Ali Khan in the movies like Cocktail and Love Aaj Kal had earlier played a relevant notorious spoil brat's role and this time again he does it but is more refined.

His lovemate played by Ileana D' Cruz is brilliant. Her chemistry with Saif is notorious and equally amusing.

Govinda as a commercially prone actor is brilliant. No wonder he has numerous shades and is capable of presenting any one of them with finesse. While last week we witnessed him as an anti-hero in Kill Dill', with Happy Ending he once again is back to his comic avatar but with a twist.

Music by Sachin-Jigar is beautiful. Songs like Jaise Mera Tu' and G Phaad Ke' are our favourite from the album.

Bollywood review: Govinda makes a striking move with 'Happy Ending'

Saif Ali Khan and Illeana D'Cruz are unable to match up, in Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru attempt at Hollywood-meets-Bollywood kind of 'romedy'

True to its title, Bollywood 'romedy', Happy Ending' left us happy when it ended.

Although director-duo Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru attempted to inject Hollywood sensibilities into a Bollywood format, they struggled to keep it clever and witty. There's even a hint at 'happy ending' massage parlour adventures as the credits roll out, but that's hardly the tone of the film.

DK and Nidimoru, who had earlier worked on the wacky Go Goa Gone' and 99', pick characters and scenes off Hollywood rom-coms, and weave them into a Bollywood love story brimming with romantic songs and plush international locations. It's almost like they've taken the cues from their own megalomaniac superstar Armaan-ji, who is in search of a script that'll win him the 'masses and classes.' On many levels, Happy Ending' is a reflection of its own effort.

There are glimpses of promise, no doubt, but those are far too few. As the 150-minutes of a scattered love story comes to an end, we are left with something pretentious and unworthy of applause, or tickles.

The frames are glossy, with the pretty faces prancing around stunning American locations. The efforts strangely appear more in line of a fashion shoot, than for a movie.

'Happy Ending' starts off with its 'young at heart' hero Saif Ali Khan sipping his cola while watching a movie with his current crush (and real wife) Kareena Kapoor Khan. Within seconds, Saif's Yudi reveals he's a commitment-phobe, as he quivers when his girl utters the dreaded four-letter word.

After Kareena exits, and a song later, we learn Yudi's based in Los Angeles, and lives a life of affluence. That his one (and only) book fetched him so much wealth is something that can be questioned, but clearly the genre isn't one that requires focus on realism.

So, we watch him flirt unabashedly, and refuse to commit to any woman, even while his BFF (best friend forever, for the uninitiated) Montu and his obnoxious, pot-bellied alter-ego Yogi dish out relationship tips.

There does appear a time when his bank account is close to being emptied, and his plush car is taken away for a bit, forcing him to take on a movie-script-writing project for the movie star. But, those moments of distress are soon forgotten, after he bumps into the new writer on the block Aanchal and an aged hero who is looking to win over an audience.

The narrative shifts between the need for a Hollywood-meets-Bollywood 'romedy' script, and a love story that doesn't show much promise. If the filmmakers had favoured the scripting exercise over the romance, it would've evoked more cheer and laughter.

Saif and Illeana D'Cruz make a dull pair. They look striking, but are unable to cook up any real passion.

Kareena and Preity Zinta, who step in for 'special appearances,' are equally unimpressive and no fun.

Thankfully, there's Ranveer Shorey, who fortunately lands some genuinely funny lines, and delivers them with aplomb. Sadly, he's got limited screen time. Another actor who dazzled despite landing a tiny, twisted part is Kalki, who excels as the nave, yet annoying 'ex' girlfriend Vishaka.

But, the star of the show is undoubtedly Govinda. There's a reason why he's called the king of comedy. Whether it's flipping his sunglasses at random, or shoving Hollywood DVDs at his new scriptwriter, or paying for instant six-pack abs, he's got it down perfectly. Even his disco number is 'kickass.'

Unfortunately, we can't say the same about the movie.

Happy Ending quick movie review: This Saif Ali Khan-Govinda-Ileana D'cruz starrer is intriguing and keeps us hooked!

The first half of the film has proven to be worth every penny. And why do we say that? Find out!

Govindas comeback has been on everyone's mind. After an awesome performance in Kill Dil, the actor is back with Saif Ali Khan and Illeana D'Cruz'sHappy Ending. Our reviewer Rukmini Chopra is presently in the theatres watching the film and she seems to be completely smitten by the performances.

Here's what she says, "Romantic comedies can often be predictable and monotonous. But when added with a twist, it results to a film called Happy Ending! Starring Saif Ali Khan, Ileana D'Cruz and Govinda, this supposedly "spoof" on romcom has the elements to keep us hooked and wanting for more. Meet Yudi Jaitley(Said Ali Khan) once a successful author, but now is struggling and looking for means to survive. His mantra in life? Daaru, sex and women, but a big no no to love. Things however seem to have taken a turn when he meets Aanchal Reddy(Ileana D'cruz), a successful author at the moment who writes romantic novels. Yudi also happens to meet Armaanji(Govinda), a superstar, who wants Yudi to write the script of a film which appeal to the "masses and classes," along with having "item numbers and chumma chaati." The quirky angle to the plot is Yudi's alter ego Yogi(Saif in a double role) who plays his conscience. Kalki Koechlin (Vishakha) aces the role of a jealous and possessive girlfriend to Saif, followed by Montu(Ranvir Shorey) who plays his funny pal. The storyline of the film is interesting, and is carried forward aptly by all the characters. The music is upbeat and catchy, G-Phaad Kebeing the fun number as of now and being taken a notch higher by Govinda and his moves! Yudi's love story seems to be going on perfectly, a rather too perfectly according to Yogi. He believes there must be some "locha" with Aanchal for sure. Further, will Yudi be successful in coming up with a perfect script for Armaanjis film? Picture abhi baki hai so let us wait and watch! Stay tuned to know about Kareena Kapoor Khan and Preity Zintas cameo roles in the full review coking up in some time!"

Now we would take Rukmini's word for it. We too are now very eager to read the full movie review and get a full overview of the film from her. Keep hooked on to BollywoodLife for the full review pretty soon.

Happy Ending quick movie review: Giggles all the way!

By Rishabh Chakravorty @RishabhChkrvrty | November 20, 2014 8:27 PM | comment
Tags: Govinda, HAppy Ending, Ileana D'Cruz, Saif Ali Khan

Happy Ending featuriess Govinda as Armaan, Saif Ali Khan as Yudi Jaitely/Yogi, Ileana D'Cruz as Aanchal, Kalki Koechlin as Riyaa and the cast extending to Ranveer Shorey, Preity Zinta and Kareena Kapoor Khan among others. Our movie reviewer Prathamesh Jadhav is watching the film at a special press show. Here's what Prathamesh had to say about Happy Ending. The movie enthusiast sneaked out of the theatre during the interval to give us this exclusive sneak peek of the movie.

She (Ileana D'Cruz) is a successful writer. He (Saif Ali Khan) is..well, not-so-successful at the craft. Together the duo is on an assignment to script a kickass' movie for a gunda-turned- movie producer (that's Govinda, folks) will they ever be able to pen a story with a happy...err ending. Saif is at his sparkling best, Ileana does a good job too. Govind is absolutely hilarious, his usal self that is. The screenplay is engaging, ,peppered with crazy one-liners. So far so good-and that despite the lack of a concrete story, actually. But hey we are not complaining at all, as giggles come easy thanks to the fantastic writing and sharp editing. We hope that this endeavour will lead us to a satisfying conclusion. you do know what we mean! Wink

Watch this space for full review.

HappyEnding such mad fun. Govinda is so good. And now I'm missing PrietyZinta in those lovely light roles she used to do.
