Hey peeps,
Remember me? 😆 I hope you do! It's been ages I visited IF! As usual busy as a medical student! and I know you are wondering why I'm here after ages? 😆 I know I even made a post few months back that I will not resume my writing career here! 🤓 But alas! I ended up writing a story! and it took me about 2 months to finish this as I wrote it slowly during my study breaks! This is a two shot. I actually wanted to write an OS but had to break this in to 2 parts to keep the suspense as well as this was ridiculously long for a one shot 😕😆
This is inspired from the story 'Fault in our stars' written by John Green and it's one of my favourite books I've ever read! But this is totally different from that story! 😳 and I hope you will not find it boring! 😕
I will post the first part below and my beloved sister Shriyu 'shriyakadge' will post the 2nd part on behalf of me because I won't be able to post the 2nd part next week cuz it's just 10 days left for my semester exams & I'm trying to keep out all the technological devices from me! 🥺😆 Here goes the story! Please do share your feedback about it 😳 Fault in our stars - Part 1
I built a castle with the words you threw at me. With your words and my love. I was comfortable so I moved in to settle. Eventually I realized that the very foundation of our home was based on lies, misunderstandings and trust issues.
At some point I knew, I had to break down our castle. I hated idea of living in a lie. Only to realize it was never your home to begin with. All I had was my love. The love I put in.
Now the walls I built around my fortress is there to shield me from your words, lies and you. I don't want to ever build a home with you again.
I don't want to live in deception.
So I made my own fort. And I am done living your lies.
Most importantly, I know that I don't need you to be Queen.
She closed her diary after penning down her feelings in an aggressive manner. She felt left out. She felt the pain of being damaged. Her heart was broken in to million pieces yet strong. She knew that she was strong enough to let go, but sometimes being strong sucks.
She went to the basement & uncovered the old photo frames which she'd kept away. She looked at the cracked wedding photograph of her & her ex husband, The crack on the glass had almost separated them. She stared at it for a while. It took her to the past.
'I love you Madhu.' 'I want you to be with me for the rest of my life' 'Will you marry me?' The three sentences which were used to be her favourites, still echos in her mind. His voice, his touch, his kisses, his hugs, she used to love almost his everything.
They had an amazing love life as young a college couple. Both of them were so much fortunate to have each other in their lives. There's nothing wonderful as being in love with your best friend. They were best of friends since they were 6 year olds.
Madhubala Malik was the only daughter of Padmini & Shamsher Malik & Rishabh Kundra was the only son of Radha & Mohan Kundra. Since they were the only children in their families, they became close as play mates soon after the Malik family moved in to the same apartment as Kundras'.
Madhu was often bullied by her friends as she was too naive. But Rishabh stood on beside her every time as a true, caring friend. Years passed and they were studying at the same faculty as medical students. The stressful life of being a medical student & the heavy workload made Madhu down several times & she desperately wanted to give up it. Rishabh being her best friend & lover, helped her to overcome her mental trauma & encouraged her to be strong & face all the difficulties cause in the end, your hard work will pay you back & you can proudly look back the rough journey you came to conquer your aspirations.
They got married with the blessings of their parents when they were pre-interns. The internship period made a 360 degree change in their life as it was one of the hardest phases of a doctor's life. They were on duty in two different hospitals. Simply no time to talk to each other. Night on-calls made the work load so much heavy and that resulted them, to stay separately in two doctor's quarters.
Madhu hated that life. She regretted of becoming a doctor. In the other hand, Rishabh was so much dedicated to his work & he was honestly happy in serving the patients a doctor. He knew that being a doctor wasn't easy but he loved the difficulties. He loved his life & the experiences he gets each day.
A baby is born in the maternity ward. A young boy is having a bi-pass. A man just lost his second daughter and wife at childbirth while in the next floor a young child is rushed in to the ICU, blood drenching his father's shirt. A grandmother praying for her husband's life so they could celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary while a mother attempts desperately to find match to donate blood to her illegitimate son. A young husband is positive for aids while another friend is receives the news of cancer.
Everyone is fighting their own battle. It's a matter of life and death for most in the hospital while some just die of a broken heart.
Madhu felt that she was no longer his. They hardly talked to each other during the day. Rishabh used to call her & check on her everyday but eventually he couldn't continue it further as he was so busy dealing with patients. Madhu wasn't much busy as him as she was assembled in to the Radiology unit. She expected him to call her everyday & meet her whenever he is free.
Unfortunately Rishabh couldn't work up to her expectations as he was more concerned about his career. The situation became more worse when Rishabh had forgot their 1st marriage anniversary. She was left out with pain and agony.
Rishabh too felt he was drifting apart from her. Infact, he wanted to go away from her. He had a reason to do so. It may be unfair but it was a painful mysterious reason he wanted to hide from her. The busy working schedule was some sort of a blessing for him to stay away from her.
In the mean time, Madhu chose a friend to share her painful feelings. It was Dr. Arnav, who had worked earlier with Rishabh in the same ward. Dr. Arnav wasn't a devoted doctor like Rishabh, he was money minded and often got blamed for not looking after the patients well. He was more focused about his private practice than working in the hospital.
Dr. Arnav became close to Madhu as friend, but Madhu was unaware about his evil plans. He created misunderstandings between Madhu & Rishabh & acted as a caring friend infront of Madhu. He was jealous of Rishabh's popularity as a hardworking doctor & he was jealous of Rishabh having a perfect life partner like Madhu. He just wanted to destroy Rishabh's marital life & get close to Madhu to fulfill his desires.
Rishabh's mysterious reason to go away from Madhu, Arnav's wicked plans & Madhu's helplessness guided to a divorce between them in a short span of time.
End of flashback
'Ouch' Madhu felt a pain & she noticed that she had almost cut her finger after the rubbing their cracked wedding photograph. The blood was flowing through Rishabh's face in the photograph. She quickly rubbed off it from her shawl.
'Momma!' She heard the voice of her little daughter Katya. The little girl had returned home. Madhu quickly covered the photo frames & went up to greet her.
'Momma' She jumped for a hug. Madhu kissed her & hugged her back. Katya was the only reason for Madhu to live after going through a painful marital break up. Katya was Rishabh's child. His blood. Katya resembles him & she was almost a carbon copy of him.
Katya had conceived after Madhu & Rishabh had an un-protective sexual intercourse in a drunken state after a batch party. Both of them had taken alcohol to overcome their mental stresses. They confronted each other about their lives which had gone wrong. Both of them were craving for love. They made love, after ages in a senseless state.
Madhu was unaware about the fact that she was pregnant with Rishabh's child when they got separated from each other. She was too late when she got to know that she was carrying his child.
Arnav had promised her that he'll give the life which Rishabh couldn't give her. Infact, Arnav was planning his marriage with Madhu when he got to know about Madhu's pregnancy news. Madhu & Rishabh's unborn child was a burden for him. He forced Madhu to abort the child. Madhu was in a dilemma as she only had a hatred for Rishabh & this child will keep the bond between them forever.
Arnav took Madhu to abort the child but at the last minute Madhu disagreed. Arnav was left with shock when he learned that Madhu no longer likes him as Madhu stated that he, being inhuman cause he refused accept the baby.
Madhu realized that she should face everything alone as a strong woman. She soon discovered that Arnav was using her against Rishabh. Unfortunately that didn't help to change her attitude towards Rishabh. Infact she hated her life. She felt that she was betrayed twice by those two men.
Meanwhile she got to know that Rishabh has left the country for his further studies. Nobody knew where he went but he had resigned from his hospital stating that he is going abroad for his further postgraduate studies.
Madhu faced the obstacles in life as a single mom after giving birth to her daughter Katya. Madhu moved to an apartment in Delhi with her little daughter & she worked as a normal doctor in the Radiology unit. She didn't want to go further in her career, specializing a field. She gave up her childhood dream of being a good cardiac surgeon cause of her little daughter Katya.
Katya had nobody in the world other than her mom & it was Madhu's responsibility to look after her daughter as a single mom. Katya was unaware about her dad & the little girl was curious to know about him. Madhu hid everything about Rishabh and she ignored when her baby girl asked about her dad. The only answer which Katya heard was 'He is too far away from us & he won't come to us.' everytime when she questioned about her dad from her mom.
'Baby, how was your day?' 'Hmm it was good!' Katya replied in a dull tone. 'Why sweetheart?' You didn't like the camp? 'Mommy'! I hate that place! That's so freaking boring! 'Everyday they tell us that we should not worry about our state cause the god is with us' They say that god is with us all the time & we should be strong.'
'But Katya, they are right.' Madhu talked in a wobbly tone, trying to hide her tears. ' But what's the use of repeating the same effing thing?' 'I find that place boring!'
Katya described her unhappiness about the camp she started attending a month back. Katya is a beautiful little girl and she is the apple of Madhu's eye, but the destiny was cruel for her. Katya had been diagnosed with a stage one throat cancer 7 months back. That almost broke Madhu in to pieces. She had almost lost her love but she didn't want to lose her child.
Katya was unfortunate to be a cancer patient in such a tender age of 8 years. The doctors assured that this was curable and they started treatments immediately. Katya had to mark a fullstop for her school life as she was advised to keep away from germs and unnecessary circumstances.
Though Madhu was broken inside, she had to keep her head straight on behalf of her child who is battling with cancer. She sent Katya to a camp which helps the cancer patients to maintain a normal life though they were cancer patients. In that camp, the instructors lets the patients to interact with each other and share their life stories with each other. It helps to overcome the mental traumas the patients are going through.
Katya attends it 3 days a week and she was unhappy about the fact that she was unable to play outside and have fun like other kids in her age. She hated going for treatments 4 days a week and spending 4 hours, 3 days week in that 'horrible' camp as her point of view.
'Momma', Will I die soon?' Katya questioned in a sad tone. That hit Madhu deeply. She immediately covered her daughter's mouth from her palm.' Katya!' Stop talking nonsense! How many times I've told you that you are going to live! See, the doctors say it's 100% curable.'
'But Momma.' 'If it's like that why should I still suffer undergoing treatments?' 'I'm fed up of them!' She made a face. 'Sweety.' Madhu looked in to her little daughter's innocent eyes. They were just like Rishabh's. 'Katya dear, it takes a little time. You'll be fine soon!' 'But how long Momma?' 'Momma won't lie you baby!' You'll be fine & fit soon & you'll be able to go to school soon!' Madhu hugged her tightly and burst in to tears.
To be continued.. 😃
