Reading through some of these responses, not everyone is against TV actors coming to BW. I for one would rather support a TV actor whose work I can judge before I pay for a ticket than take a chance on an unproven starkid with a great pedigree and a lavish launch. The fact is talent is not inherited nor does a last name guarantee success. Just ask the Kapoors who have failed or poor Abhi Bachchan or Esha Deol whose last names were a liability as their talent could not live up to their parents.
I do not get the argument TV actors should not cross over either. SRK was a TV DD actor. He built a fortune rivaling Tom Cruise in 20 years. So it can be done. Brad Pitt started in soaps, George Clooney was a flop TV actor for years before he found success in ER and moved over to film and then Oscars.

But the fact is, you need to choose well. Being a great looker or having a great last name or even talent or being a great person does not guarantee success. Ajay Devgan is more ugly than handsome but a 20+ career was his due to making good choices and playing to his strengths. So too Akki. Salman's career has been on the death bed more than once and his personal life would have sunk most careers. But he comes roaring back because of all film choices IMO that people loved, not great films, but loved by people. So many of us have sat through the Prems. I for one have held on to him because of that.

A person can be a good person, even have a great start like an Imran and still have a bad career. Be a not so great person like Raj Kapoor yet be influential internationally. I was shocked to have an Russian person sing 'Mera Jhoota Hain Japani' in New York once after asking 'India' ? 'Raj Kapoor'. It comes down to film choices

Barun like everyone else needs to make good choices in films that appeals outside his established fan base. Most people do not care if he started on TV or what his last name is . All they care about is the trailer worth my money.

This film is gonna tank quicker than the titanic. Barun made a huge mistake leaving IPK, he should have stuck to the show as it made him immensely popular internationally. People were crazy over him in the UK. He should have waited for a better film offer.

I logged in just for this. Barun I found him very cute and endearing in the tiny glimpse we got. I can see why he chose this project after the daily monotony of playing the angry, young man role on screen for so long. I think neither he nor the makers nor most of the fans honestly expect this to be a super hit or anything, but that it releases is huge in itself because sadly there is a lot of prejudice against TV actors (both by producers and viewers) and it's often difficult, if not impossible, to get a foothold in this industry. Very few have been lucky...

OT, I dont know why ppl are bringing up IPK into it--yet again 🥱 I'm a HUGE fan of the show, but I think most who closely followed it would agree that the storyline was stagnating at that point and falling steadily into the typical saas bahu genre. And moreover Barun, like every individual, has every right to choose to do what makes him happy. Like he's said, he's not looking to be the number one actor in bollywood; he's looking to do stuff that interests him and fortunately, unlike many, he has the means to do so. Live and let live ppl. Sigh...

Anyway, I will always wish him well in whatever he chooses to do and always love and respect him for ASR. Can't wait for the trailer 😳

#Respect.

You said it all and pretty eloquently at that.

True he was fabulous as ASR and ASR was an iconic character but that doesn't mean he shouldn't do anything else. He's an actor, and that's his living. One cannot grow as an actor if he/she does the same kind of roles over the years.

And doing a small budget movie isn't some kind of debauchery, to realize a dream there has to be a starting point.

Barun dreamt of acting in Bollywood movies (and there's nothing wrong in that) and this is his starting point. Some say, he took a big risk by forgoing TV for movies, but as a matter of fact, taking risks is an intrinsic part of achieving something bigger in life.
From running successful businesses to winning a quiz show on TV, unless you have the guts to take risks, you are going nowhere in life.

And the debate about him leaving his successful show for this particular movie doesn't hold. He had already shot it, while doing TV. The reason he cited for leaving the show was "feeling brain dead after doing the same thing months all together." And rightly so, he had given whatever he could to that character, what was left for him there? There wasn't much scope of experimentation, the script was abysmal, and the production house too had given up saying, the story has run its course.
