He froze in the doorway for a moment. Sakshi's accusing eyes were brimming with tears.
His jaws clenched together tightly. His heart burned with anger and guilt. He walked into the
house stiffly and removed his shoes and socks, Sakshi's eyes watching his every move.
He knew she was waiting for him to say something first. But he was afraid if he started
talking he'll only hurt her more. With anger boiling deep within, he made a move to walk into
his room. But, as soon as he took a step forward so did Sakshi, making him halt in his
track.
The building tension was consuming them. Both knew, as soon as one of them started
talking all the walls and dams would break. All that has been happening in the past three
and half weeks of their marriage would come tumbling down in front of them. Arjun would
have to accept his unjust actions towards her and much, much more than he was prepared
for. And Sakshi would have to accept, there is something deeply bothering about the way
their married life had started off.
He directed all the frustration and anger to his hands folded behind his back. The fingers
frantically drummed on the walls trying to exhaust the build-up anger. It was not working, it
was a distraction sure - but it did not ease his anger.
Trying it once more, he took another step towards the bedroom.
"Rukho Arjun!"
Her voice finally sliced through the tension, she did after all have more to lose from the
silence than he did. He stopped. Not because she asked him to, but because of the way
she spoke. It was more or less a command. He didn't have to turn around to see the anger
and fire burning in her eyes, he could hear it in her voice. In those two words, he could hear
her deciding she had just enough of his unjustified, unexplained and cold attitude towards
her.
There was silence again. Arjun braced himself for the onslaught that was about to be
directed at him - something he surely deserved.
"We need to talk" She spoke in a clear, clipped voice.
Arjun's jaws unclenched as he took a deep, shaky breath through his mouth,
"Now is not be a good time" He told her honestly as the reins on his temper hung on a very
thin thread.
"It never is!" Her voice turned cold, "I need to know what is happening Arjun. I don't
deserve to be treated like this!!"
And there it was. The reason for his guilt and anger. He knew every single word she'd
speak tonight would be true and just, which frustrated him more.
"Sakshi..." He didn't know where all the self-control was coming from whenever he spoke.
Internally he was exploding.
"Arjun if the last three weeks is a trailer for how the rest of our lives are going to be
together, then I can't do this" The coldness in her voice left. She sounded vulnerable yet
Arjun could hear a hint of determination.
Finally turning around, he looked at her. Her eyes were now red and cheeks drenched with
tears. She wrapped her arms around her torso as if protecting herself. He had seen the
same look Sakshi wore on her face in Priya so many times - weak and vulnerable.
But, what caught him off guard was something he saw in Sakshi's eyes.
Something he longed to see in Priya.
The underlying fierceness.
No matter how she felt, she demanded answers.
And Arjun knew, he was giving them to her. Doesn't matter if he wanted to or not.
