Q Shakalaka was a disaster. What do you have to say about Naqaab? Naqaab means 'veil'. It's a story, true to life, where we meet many individuals but can't say who or what they really are. The film is about trying to find out the real person behind the mask. I play a rich man, like I play in all my films, but in this film I am cultured and have a lot of values. Special attention has been given to my clothes and styling. My makeover has been done by Aalim in this film. Q Jhoom Barabar Jhoom must have come as a fresh breath of air... For the first time I got a chance to play two extreme characters in a single film. I am happy with that. The audiences have accepted me in both the serious as well as the comic role. Q You have been accepted in negative roles as well, so what's next? My favourite actor is Robert de Niro who has played both villain and hero. and he is widely accepted and loved. the problem with the audiences here was that they don't want their hero to change. Luckily for me, the audiences now accept grey shades in lead actors and filmmakers also make such films. What can I say, I think I am lucky. Q We heard you were a total cry-baby during the making of Apne. Is that some kind of a new image? Apne is a very special film for me. It was overwhelming to share screen space with both dad and my brother. I am very close to my dad and for him I am still a little boy. I know I got very emotional when he gave a speech at the IIFA but then it's just because my dad means a world to me. Q What are your forthcoming films? I have a lot on my plate right now. Sangeeth Sivan's Ek tha Roshan, is the remake of a south Indian film where Shreya of Sivaji fame will act opposite me. Nanhe Jaisalmer is a film for kids. I can't reveal much about other offers. Q So long so good, but what about your acting? Sunny Deol is the only person who insists that you have improved... Bhaiya has not said anything to me regarding this. But I know if there would have been no improvement, he would have told me. As far as improving my acting skills is concerned, I think I have come of age though there is still a long way to go. I will improve with each film, and with every experience. |
