Just around the release of Singham Returns, Kareena Kapoor Khan had taken off for a London holiday with hubby Saif Ali Khan. Now that she has returned, congratulatory calls are in order, what with Singham Returns going well past the 100 crore mark (the film has already collected more than 135 crore) and also being the second biggest grosser of the year after Kick. She is surprised though that despite the film's success, there are detractors out there who continue to question the success associated with massy potboilers.
"I don't know why people are like putting down commercial cinema these days. Yes, as an experienced actress I should be doing more heroine oriented projects but then that doesn't mean I can't pick a film like Singham Returns which is a big ticket affair," says Kareena, "Hindi cinema is about commercial entertainers also. I don't think it's cool to pull down a Hindi commercial film because I truly believe that I am what I am because of that only."
Kareena is content that with the Ajay Devgn-Rohit Shetty affair, she delivered what was expected out of her.
"My scenes were written in a way that each of these had enjoyable moments that were clean and fun. They were made for family viewing and Rohit was clear that I was required so that film was accessible even for those who were not just looking for non-stop action. It is a blend like this due to which masses as well as multiplexes have given a Thumbs-up to the film," she says.
With around 135 crore already in its kitty, Singham Returns is now also Kareena's third highest grosser after 3 Idiots (202 crore) and Bodyguard (149 crore).
