Part 5
She could also now relate and see through Raman's real intentions behind his actions the previous night. Perhaps he really wanted to give her that happiness before it was too late. His attitude and justification was probably not right but his intentions were right. She grinned at the thought of his unique way of hurling insults and taunts at her on one side and caring for her on the other side. It was Raavan's inherent nature which cannot be changed!
But now, she had to decide and get this across to him the right way. Without hurting her own self respect, she had to talk to him about it but how?
********************************
Meanwhile, Raman was in a dilemma or in a kind of fix situation wondering what to say to the doctor. He had said that he would bring his wife's prior reports and also bring her for further tests but now he had to undo all that. He couldn't say the actual reason for the sudden change of mind but he had to make some excuse and pull out of it.
So he calls the doctor later in the evening as he parked the car at the apartment complex.
"Hello doctor..."
The doctor snapped him and replied, "Hello Mr Bhalla...I am happy you sent your wife so soon for the counselling...As I said, the sooner the better..."
Raman wasn't able to comprehend it initially, "Ishita wahaan..."
"She just left Mr Bhalla...We talked at length about her problem...You were right, she seemed really stressed out but maine sab kuch acche se samjhaa diya hai...woh ghar aakar aapse baat karegi...Just get her to take those medicines regularly...phir baaki sab toh aapko yaad hai na?"
He merely nodded and the doctor replied, "Good luck Mr Bhalla...bye"
Raman thanked her and then disconnected the call before walking into the building.
"So Jhansi ki Rani gynaec se milne gayi thi...lekin kyun? Ussne toh saaf manaa kiya tha...mujhe itna sunaaya aur khud chali gayi doctor ke paas... aaj toh madrasan ki khair nahi!"
He unlocked the door and went right inside. He waited restlessly but outwardly posing indifference to it. "Why should I even bother? Usske jo marzi woh karein?"
And then instantly his other side argued back, "But I should bother...inn sab mein main bhi toh involved hoom!"
As he continued his inner battle inside the room, she stepped into the house fully aware that he was home. Somehow, his presence gave her a shiver as she was literally wanting that the embarrassing moment of talking to him about it get pushed to the maximum.
Her mind was continuously oscilating between whether to proceed in this or just forget everything and go on the way they were right now. She knew if she had to fulfil her dream for a baby, then her relationship with Raman would have to change drastically. Once in that path, they can never return to what they are now. Perhaps, she was ready for such a shift in their relationship but she wasn't sure what was in his mind. Will he want to become a husband to her in all meanings? But her mind reminded her that he was the one who started all this baby talk and gave her faint hopes of reviving her dream. But even then, his proposal for the baby seemed like another deal or contract like this marriage. Did she want the baby as such a deal? "No" said her mind directly but then a part of her heart said yes because it longed for what she was forbidden so long. A part of her heart also revolted against the whole idea because of the changing equations with her husband Raman could mean a heartache if ever he refuses to reciprocate to her love and other such feelings. The thought of a mere physical intercourse void of love and any such passionate feeings made her feel low and dirty.
One more thing which surfaced up was the way she had fought with him last night. She had literally lashed out and insulted his move on her. How will he react now? He was sure to taunt and insult her with his words!
She was damn confused but brushed away those thoughts for the moment and walked into their room. He was sitting on the bed in the usual posture and watching some stupid match.
He sat there as if oblivious to her presence and unaffected by her entry while inside, he was only brimming with questions and taunts for what she did. His complete focus was on her movements as she kept her bag on the table and pulled out her home clothes from the ward robe.
He waited and waited for her to tell him, postponing his own questions to later. She was unusually silent that day, mentally preparing herself and gearing up for what she was thinking.
Finally, the wait ended during dinner when she decided to tell him.
"Mujhe aapse baat karni hai"
He looked up from the plate and looked at her sarcastically, "Shukar hai...maine socha ke tumaari lecture ka stock khatam hogaya...aur isiliye itni chup chaap ho..."
"Raman...main seriously baat karna chahti hoom"
Her annoyed reply only made him to tease her more, "serious baat???? Toh maanthi ho ke tumaare routine lectures saare faaltu aur boring hai, huh?"
She was already in a weird mood and his taunt made her irritated beyond limits. In one moment, she felt her logical mind overpowering her and she got up deciding to let go of the entire thing, "Forget it Raman...mujhe aapse koyi baat nahi karni hai..."
She walked into the room leaving her food half way. She just voiced as if completing her duty, "aap dinner finish kar lijiye...I will come in a while and clean up the table..."
Once she went away, he left his taunting mode and pondered to himself, "Yeh madrasan toh naaraaz hogayi..."
He was almost done with the dinner. So he quickly finished it and went to pacify her to eat.
"Suno Ish..."
He entered the room and then realized that she is on the balcony.
[In my stories, balcony always opens out from the bedroom...its no different here too...Ishita is in the bedroom's balcony]
He shook his head amused by her silly anger. That made him realize that it was the first time that she was angry for such a silly reason and it was also the first time that he was going to cajole her like this.
He quietly entered the balcony and stood next to her, his back resting on the railings.
She wasn't looking at him and posed indifference while he spoke up, "itni si baat keliye naaraaz hogayi, huh? Tum pehle toh aise nahi thi...Now where is my Jhansi ki rani?? Aaj kahaan kho gayi?"
"My Jhansi ki rani" that sounded so good to her ears but she was adamant not to melt down. He added, "Pehle khaana khaalo...phir karenge tumaare serious baat...ok?"
She smacked herself to keep silent but that was getting impossible now. She just spoke up impulsively, "mujhe sacch mein bohat serious baat karni thi Raman parr aap humesha taana maarthe ho!"
"Arre baba ab nahi karunga...Go finish your dinner...phir jo chaaho jitna chaaho baat karna...main chup chaap sunoonga"
She grinned when he kept his fingers on his lips and shook his head like an obedient kid.
After a brief pause, he added teasingly, "but isska matlab yeh nahi ke tumaare lectures acche hai!"
And then he gestured her to go back and have dinner which she did obediently. He stood there looking at her retreating back and grinned to himself as he knew exactly what she was going to talk about. He was all ready and eager to know how she presented the matter before him.
Soon she came back and found that he stood at the same place waiting for her.
She hesitantly stood to the far end, a little away from him. As he had decided, he waited silently patiently but she never spoke up. He could sense her discomfort in opening up the topic. He wanted to pitch in and help her with it. He couldn't see his wife stressed out like this. So he left his fake pretence and enquired, "Doctor ne kya kaha?"
That surprised her. "He knew it already" she thought and looked at him enquiringly while he smiled and chose not to explain how he knew that she met the doctor. Somehow, she didn't get annoyed for hiding it from her and posing ignorance for so long. Rather, she felt it easier to speak now. She replied, "Aapko patha tha phir bhi aapne mujhe tang kiya..."
Raman chuckled, "main tumse sunna chaahta tha Ishita because you almost kicked me out of the bed last night for speaking about it...remember?"
Ishita couldn't help a smile, thinking about last night while he probed, "So, what did she say?"
She hesitantly replied, "wahi sab jo aapne kal raat..." her words trailed off and she added, "aur mujhe realize ho raha hai ke woh sab sahi hai..."
He snapped her short, "maine kaha toh laat maari aur wahi sab doctor ne bola toh samajh aagayi...Great!"
She could see that he was mocking her for her lecture last night.
She pouted, "Raman, filaal main mazaag ya aapse jagda karne ke mood mein nahi hoom"
He chuckled at that naughtily, "accha??? Toh kya karne ka mood hai?"
She sported an annoyed look at his double meaning question and then spoke up, "Pehle aap apne saare gattiya jokes bolo...phir main baat karungi..."
"Gattiya jokes??? Oh madam, tumaara hi kaam aasaan kar raha hoom...chalo main kuch nahi kehta...ab tum bolo..."
She was struck for the right words now and she realized that he was indeed making the conversation light to ease her up. He was saying everything possible to make it sound less awkward and in turn she had scolded him. She looked at him apologetically mouthing a sorry too.
"I am sorry Raman...I am feeling so weird and awkward talking all this...isiliye gussa aap pe nikaal diya...kabhi socha nahi tha ke humaare life mein aise situation bhi aayega jab main aap se aise..."
Her words trailed off but he waited naughtily to let her finish what she intended. He could understand what her unspoken words are. She noticed him glancing at her expecting her to say it and she pleaded with her eyes, "Can't you understand what I wish to say Raman?"
He was quick to respond to her unvoiced plea, "I really dont want any assumptions here Ishita...it will only create misunderstandings like it did yesterday...Maine ek step le liya hai...ab tumaari bhaari hai...I want you to be clear in this and tell me"
She looked at him helpessly thinking in her mind, "I have really started desiring for a baby Raman...but yeh baat kaise kahoon main aapse"
As if reading her mind thoughts, he asked directly, "kya tum ek aur baccha...I mean humaara baccha chahti ho Ishita?"
She was stunned by the direct question but nodded silently without waiting for a second more. The naughty taunting side of him overtook when he saw her nod to it. He teased her, "ab tum issme mera kaam kya hai?' yeh nahi poochogi na?"
She was already feeling so shy in his naughty comments and glances and this remark made her embarrassed too. She turned away from him and replied, "waise yeh sab kuch aapka hi kaam hai...I had already accepted the reality of my life...apne dil ko samjhaa liya tha ke ab sirf Ruhi hi meri beti hai...You started all this and rekindled my wish Raman...I mean I had never thought about it..."
He placed his hand on her shoulders sensing that she was getting emotional now, "tumne problem se samjhota kiya tha Ishita...usse solve karne ki khoshish nahi kiya, seedhe haar maan liya...harr baar jab tum apne problem ke baare mein bathaathi ho, maine tumaare andar ka dard ko mehsoos kiya hai... I couldn't see you in so much pain...I had to do something..."
She turned around hearing him concerned for her and in the process, almost crashed into his body but he steadied her and held her close to him. Their proximity was undoing many egoistic resolutions and restrictions between them but both trying to hide it from each other. The physical tension seemed to pile up more than ever between them in those moments, probably because of the topic of discussion.
She tried to step back saying, "mujhe issme aapke support ki zaroorat hai Raman...will you be with me?"
Her direct confession like question made him smile. Her emotional state was indeed evident to him but he didn't want to answer seriously and make it more emotional.
He relaxed his hold a little with a grin and voiced innocently, "kis cheez ki support Ishita?"
When she looked away smacking him mentally for the flirty remark, he added with a wink, "Of course...I will do my job perfectly...dont worry!"
She closed her ears screaming, "Aiyooo murugan..." realizing what he means by that. All such talks were quite new to her ears and felt uncomfortable hearing it from him all of a sudden.
In an instinct, he placed his finger on her mouth to stop her loud voice and the rest of her words, "kuch bhi Raman" dissolved into thin air. That small yet intimate gesture from him had an electrifying effect on both. A shrill went up her body causing unknown sensations.
His finger lingered on her lips for a little longer till she snapped out and stepped back a little.
To save the awkward situation, he instantly voiced, "Main bas emotional support ki baat kar raha tha...Na jaane apne gandi dimaag mein kya kya sochthi ho..." passing the blame game onto her.
Before she could come out of the shock and respond to his game, he quickly added, "Andar chalo...yahi kade hoke free mein picture dikaane ka shauq nahi hai mujhe" and walked inside expecting her to follow. She looked around and realized that their balcony was indeed a view point from many windows and balconies of other apartments. A little hesitantly, she too followed him to the room.
