With all due respect - while I agree that Samrat needs to be taught a lesson and MCPs do need to change their mentality - that is a herculean task.
It is virtually impossible to get a MCP to change their mentality but to be fair changing their mentality is like treating an illness - it's possible but wouldn't it make more sense to just prevent it?!
If families treated boys and girls the same and taught boys to respect women and boys grow up seeing their father treat their mother with respect - a lot of this can be eliminated. However that is going into a very different conversation.
For the purposes of the show I still believe the focus isn't/shouldn't be on "changing" Samrat. Samrat's behavior is a catalyst to bring about inner strength and self confidence that Urmi falls short on. Urmi is not unaware of the fact that her husband treats her poorly or that the way he talks/behaves is demeaning and insulting - most times she kept quiet to maintain peace in the home. Each time she might think to take a stand she gets boggled down by societal norms, family pressures, lack of moral support and lack of financial independence.
It's high time we see her thinking for herself and standing up for her self respect - we saw a bit of that when she sent Samrat to jail and confronted him head on in the bedroom after he came home from jail. We need to see her channel that confidence and strength and move forward - she's going to need a lot of courage and patience considering her family is useless and no one will be supporting her. Hopefully her NRI friend can come to her aid and help her locate NGOs for survivors of domestic violence that help those women get on their feet. She is educated - she can put that towards something or take specialized courses to help her get a job etc.
I really hope they show Urmi taking a stand for herself and not let her maternal family's lack of support break her - it should give her that much more inspiration to charter her own path and raise her son well.
