We always hear rumours of Bollywood filmmakers planning to make Mahabharat & Ramayan. The 2 greatest Epics from India?
We see them made as TV shows and they tend to work well.
But as a film. Can 3 hour reel do justice to those legendary Sanskrit epics of ancient India????
Can casting issue cause differences in the overall product?

I don't think so. First of all getting actors for these characters are really hard. Bollywood actors have ego. They don't like to share screen space with other top actors. That makes it hard.
And movies are only 3 hours long so that makes it more hard.

May be if they made it in parts . It's not possible in a single film to do justice with so many plots n their sub plots. Plus people have already seen n heard the story multiple times, so it's hard to surpass their expectations.

If they would do it in trilogy or more parts. 2 parts is nothing and it won't be as detailed as it should be. There have been movies in the past on mythology, but they have been pretty much mehh. Only plus point is today's technology which might do justice to them...

Very few of the new lot can play gods and goddesses.

More like average joe blows.

No, and that's exactly why they have serials. If they ever want to make a movie on the subject, they choose a specific topic and create a movie based on that. For example, Asoka was not the complete, detailed story of King Ashok. It was merely a portion of his life with a focus on how he became kind-hearted after the bloodshed.

Ramayan can be done in two parts and it has pretty much straight forward story. But I can't see Mahabharata happening any time soon. Not just its huge its complex - really complex. Its just like - Game of thrones - novels are awesome but you cant do justice to them in 3 hour films as they can't capture the whole scope of the series.
