An interesting thing about the recent upsurge of QH: It is not due to any current hate, revenge,
ladla or
takraar between the leads.
Now the question is what does the future--or rather the SaHil marriage--hold? Something in me tells me that this story is not going to be one of female abuse and humiliation. I don't know why, but I just have this feeling.
QH2 has been a pleasant surprise in this aspect. Other than one complaint I had very early on, the show had managed the "love-hate" aspect without unnecessary (and romanticized) abuse and humiliation inflicted on the female lead--which is often the case in many Hindi serials that attempt to portray a "love-hate" story. SaHil was different in that Sanam always reacted and gave it back. She wasn't made to stand there and take insults and humiliation due to whatever reason, including her employee status; nor was she made to give needless and useless Bhashans as a response. No, Sanam reacted and replied in a far more impressive manner than many other Hindi serial female leads in so-called "love-hate stories".
So the question is where does the story go from here? My hope is that the makers be consistent as well as creative, and not go down the same old path where the male lead inflicts various insults, humiliation and abuses on the female lead who meekly accepts the abuse due to some majboori.--with some 'humorous' scenes or "romanticized" instances of the male lead feeling bad for some of his actions thrown in to somehow make up for the fact that what is actually shown is degrading, insulting, and regressive to women.
Many Hindi serials take the idea of contract marriage, or majboori marriage, and turn it into hate marriage or revenge marriage wherein which the male lead makes it his mission constantly and continuously abuse, insult and humiliate the female lead (sometimes only privately, other times both privately and publicly).
This is not only lazy but a very regressive trope of storytelling, and I sincerely hope QH2 and SaHil don't go in this manner. A contract marriage exists from both sides. Misunderstanding can exist from both sides. Hell, even "hate" can exist from both sides.
By all means, let SaHil have misunderstandings; let them both lash out at each other due to their misunderstandings. But what should not happen is the instance of the male lead taking it upon himself to punish and humiliate the female lead, with the female lead put in a position where she has to bear it all.
