From across the border, as you might have already guessed :), Saw a Pakistani serial for the first time in the form of ZGH. Caught the first few episodes on Zee Zindagi, then came to know it had already finished aired in Pakistan. Ended up watching the whole series on YT.
Language was easy to understand (I'd say I didn't need subtitles for 90% of the dialogues). Some of the Karachi streets (the ones where Fawad's driving, are those Karachi streets?) are practically the same as Mumbai ones.
I thought the female lead did a very, very good job. So did her mother, Sara and her FIL Junaid (knew I had seen him somewhere before, then realised he was SRK's dad in OSO!)
Saw Fawad Khan for the first time (Looked like a mix of Karan Singh Grover, the male lead Vicky from Jugni Chali Jalandhar and Ashmit Patel). He acts well and it helps that the role is tailor made for him. I actually thought he'd be very good even playing a grey/negative character, but I see from other threads in this forum that he doesn't get too many offers in that niche in Pakistan.
My personal view of the story- I initially thought it promoted chauvinism and misogyny a bit too much and the male lead felt proud of being a chauvinist. This was "corrected" a bit in the end episodes where they show the female lead getting angry for a change.
I think the original book shows greater chauvinism from Zaroon, but that was modified for the serial.
Dialogues and acting were great, but there were a fair few loose ends.
1.) Why did the youngest sister (Shaneela) not come for Kashaf's wedding? We also see Kashaf's father at the engagement, but he is nowhere to be seen at the wedding?
2.) The scene with Zaroon at the masjid- what happened after Murtaza asked him to go first?
3.) What happened to Hammad and Murtaza at the end?
4.) How did Ghazala and Junaid react to both their grand children being daughters?
5.)Nothing shown of Osama's wedding? When he specifically told Kashaf that Zaroon and her were to come to the wedding.
6.) Did Rafia live alone at the end? Would've loved to see how Zaroon and Kashaf managed grown up twin daughters!
Liked it being short and crisp, but felt they could have added some more details and maybe finished it at 30 epis. Slightly disappointed that the Ghazala here is Aunn's mother. The actress does a good job, but it feels a bit odd to see the same person acting in two serials one after the other (they're aired one after the other in India)
PS- everyone across the border lives in independent houses? Didn't see a single flat/apartment in ZGH, even when Rafia had to switch, they were seemingly living in an independent rented house. Those are absolute luxuries in the metros here.
Thanks for reading, the serials don't look and feel foreign at all :)
PPS- Any serial that has Fawad and Maya Ali (the Zara from AZ) together? Or one that even has Aunn (OKB) and the Kashaf from this serial? Would make for interesting watching.
