Hi folks.

From across the border, as you might have already guessed :), Saw a Pakistani serial for the first time in the form of ZGH. Caught the first few episodes on Zee Zindagi, then came to know it had already finished aired in Pakistan. Ended up watching the whole series on YT.

Language was easy to understand (I'd say I didn't need subtitles for 90% of the dialogues). Some of the Karachi streets (the ones where Fawad's driving, are those Karachi streets?) are practically the same as Mumbai ones.

I thought the female lead did a very, very good job. So did her mother, Sara and her FIL Junaid (knew I had seen him somewhere before, then realised he was SRK's dad in OSO!)

Saw Fawad Khan for the first time (Looked like a mix of Karan Singh Grover, the male lead Vicky from Jugni Chali Jalandhar and Ashmit Patel). He acts well and it helps that the role is tailor made for him. I actually thought he'd be very good even playing a grey/negative character, but I see from other threads in this forum that he doesn't get too many offers in that niche in Pakistan.

My personal view of the story- I initially thought it promoted chauvinism and misogyny a bit too much and the male lead felt proud of being a chauvinist. This was "corrected" a bit in the end episodes where they show the female lead getting angry for a change.

I think the original book shows greater chauvinism from Zaroon, but that was modified for the serial.

Dialogues and acting were great, but there were a fair few loose ends.

1.) Why did the youngest sister (Shaneela) not come for Kashaf's wedding? We also see Kashaf's father at the engagement, but he is nowhere to be seen at the wedding?
2.) The scene with Zaroon at the masjid- what happened after Murtaza asked him to go first?
3.) What happened to Hammad and Murtaza at the end?
4.) How did Ghazala and Junaid react to both their grand children being daughters?
5.)Nothing shown of Osama's wedding? When he specifically told Kashaf that Zaroon and her were to come to the wedding.
6.) Did Rafia live alone at the end? Would've loved to see how Zaroon and Kashaf managed grown up twin daughters!

Liked it being short and crisp, but felt they could have added some more details and maybe finished it at 30 epis. Slightly disappointed that the Ghazala here is Aunn's mother. The actress does a good job, but it feels a bit odd to see the same person acting in two serials one after the other (they're aired one after the other in India)

PS- everyone across the border lives in independent houses? Didn't see a single flat/apartment in ZGH, even when Rafia had to switch, they were seemingly living in an independent rented house. Those are absolute luxuries in the metros here.

Thanks for reading, the serials don't look and feel foreign at all :)

PPS- Any serial that has Fawad and Maya Ali (the Zara from AZ) together? Or one that even has Aunn (OKB) and the Kashaf from this serial? Would make for interesting watching.

I can answer some of the questions since its been a while, and I dont remember. Yes its Karachi, and a there are a lot of apartment dwellers, just not in this drama.
The secne at the masjid was just to show that Zaroon didnt know how to perform ablution (washing before prayer) so he asks them to go first so he can observe.
I think they answered in the serial why the sister couldnt make it to the wedding, I think she was in America.
Osama's wedding wasnt important, thats how it is in Pakistani serials, they only show the important stuff which is relevant to the story.

The rest of the questions maybe someone else can answer, hope my answers helped.

Well emphasis has never been laid on supporting characters in most of Pakistani dramas... they play their roles when the lead's story requires them to play it and it isnt really seen how they end up in the end. 😊

He sees someone doing the washing at the Masjid, has questions in his head and wants Hammad to go first (if I recollect). But Murtaza asks him to go before Hammad because he is older, and they don't quite show what happens (whether he goes forward, how he does it et al). Probably just a plot device to show that Zaroon being upper class, doesn't take religion seriously?

Shaneela was just a student, not sure why she'd go to America and miss the wedding of her eldest sister, but I'll recheck that episode.

Maybe Osama's wedding wasn't important, but settings like those can be used to send across subtle messages re the relationship between the main couple.

I thought some of the supporting guys played their roles very well in this serial, which was one of the reasons I liked it. (Sara, Junaid, Rafia, Sidra) Would've loved to see them get their due at the end.

It's also the reason I like Aunn Zara- the dadi, phupho and Zara's father make for great watching.

To be honest I think your reading into it a bit too much. Showing Osama's wedding would have been pointless. Ultimately it just wasn't important enough. As for the wudu thing, Zaroon probably just watched someone else make the wudu and copied, or pulled up instructions on his phone. The scene was just there to show us Zaroon has been raised in such a way that he is out of touch with religion. There was no need to show us how he figured out how to make wudu. That would have been dragging it too much.

Personally I think ZGH could have been condensed a lot. I thought it was slow and took forever to get to the point, about 18-22 episodes would have been enough.

It's strong points (mainly the dialogue and acting) were amazing, but it's weak points (script, pacing, etc) were a real drag.

Glad you're enjoying the shows though. :)

1.) Why did the youngest sister (Shaneela) not come for Kashaf's wedding? We also see Kashaf's father at the engagement, but he is nowhere to be seen at the wedding?
-She was abroad, he's probably their just wasn't focused on. 😆

2.) The scene with Zaroon at the masjid- what happened after Murtaza asked him to go first?
-I'm guessing he just observed the others and did his Wudu roughly. Or convinced Hammad to go first. :P

3.) What happened to Hammad and Murtaza at the end?
-Nothing special, they continued living their lives as they were shown.

4.) How did Ghazala and Junaid react to both their grand children being daughters?
-I don't think much of that was needed. By the end of the serial it is clear that they both have completely accepted Kashaf in their family..Ghazala was even shown getting worried when Kashaf didn't call and if Zaroon and Kashaf don't have a problem they shouldn't either. :-)

5.)Nothing shown of Osama's wedding? When he specifically told Kashaf that Zaroon and her were to come to the wedding.
-Not important, lol. They probably went, didn't need to be shown.

6.) Did Rafia live alone at the end? Would've loved to see how Zaroon and Kashaf managed grown up twin daughters!
-No, I'm pretty sure she moved in with Zaroon and Kashaf. There was a scene with Zaroon telling Kashaf to ask Rafia to come stay with them permanently. You can presume that happened. 😳

And the ps, I think so. Or like side by side homes. The homes can be smaller but there's not many buildings. There's some karai dars too. So like renting a room or two out for some extra income. :D

Hey ...
Here are some probable answers to your questions ...

How did Ghazala and Junaid react to both their grand children being daughters?
They were portrayed as these broad minded people and of course would have no objection regarding both their granddaughters ...

Nothing shown of Osama's wedding?
I guess it just wasn't needed ...

Did Rafia live alone at the end ??
I don't think so coz Zaroon wanted her to live with them ...

Well coming to Hamad and Murtuza I guess they just carried on with their lives as they did in their past and without playing a vital role in the lives of Kashaf and her sisters coz they just didn't need their father's help any longer in their lives ...
