Lol ..Mind reading the first page? Because i clearly mentioned the list includes actresses from 1980-2010. I also mentioned Hema is the one who had the longest reign as the number 1 heroine...

And no Sridevi isnt number 1 Heroine ever or first superstar... Its

HEMA MALINI - 11 YEARS in industry as No.1 heroine

1972 -1979 and 1981-1983

tbh hema's reign is not as great in comparison to sridevi, hema was no.1 but she was mediocre actress who was limited in emotion and range. sridevi was no.1 and was the first actress to be compared with her heroes, she was praised for her immense versatility, dancing and her gorgous looks, infact whole of the 80s decade belong to one single actor, that was sridevi, 2nd was BigB, anil kapoor and so on. When we think of 80s we think of sridevi. When we think of 70s, we think of BigB, when we think of 90s we think of the Khan's, srk and salman especially. when we think of 2000s we think of srk. Thats the aura and level of megarstar status sridevi had, hence 1st female superstars, highest paid film personality

It would be wrong to say Sridevi ruled for 7 years starting with 1983. Who becomes No.1 with first hit. I think she got there in 1985-1986.
As per that logic, Madhuri became no.1 1988.
But let's put it aside.
No one had reign like Hema Malini had. Of course sometimes, Sri gets referred as the first female superstar or Madhuri as the only female superstar. But there were definitely some superstars before them too. Vaijyantimala, Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Hema Malini and Rekha were definitely superstars.
But yes, if some one had the longest reign then it was Hema Malini. She ruled Bollywood for almost 15 years.

actually BOI in that sense is right that sridevi became number 1 after 83, because its the front page media during 83 gave that title, but what they are wrong is that she ruled 7 years, her legendary status kept her no.1 reign intact that in 1992 a filmfare issue released titled last empress. She's the only superstar who was the biggest in the 80s, no actors or actresses were as big as her. 80s was all about sridevi, a lot of movies were big where she either had equal length role as heroes or she was the central character, example being Nagina, chandni.

I am not a fan of either movies but I think anyone can say that DDLJ is more iconic. Do you see how many movies are being made that r inspired from it? How many times that train running scene has been reacted? I don't see anyone even talking about HAHK anymore, but I have always heard DDLJ, not only from people around me, but on the net, on tv, media, from movie stars. I am not making everything up. Perhaps you can't objectivity discuss this topic because you're a Madhuri fan.

It's clear your just saying HAHK cuz you seem to be a Madhuri fan , is HAHK an icon? Yes, but it's nowhere close to the legacy that DDLJ has created for itself

acting wise sridevi's chaalbaaz pawns hema's seeta aur geeta, compare the chracters of hema and sridevi who are the weaker of the sisters, compare sri's emotions, when she cries, the pain in her face and body langauge, she surprassed hema, not many remakes lives up to the classical status, only a few and chaalbaaz actually did and is still considered one of most iconic female roles in bollywood. Read what the critics reveiw was in that time. I like hema but she's not that brilliant with emotion.

I myself prefer Rekha over Hema. Rekha's transformation and particularly her voice modulation are amazing. I gush for her!

But I disagree with dismissal of Hema's acting. Her performance in Seeta aur Geeta is much better than Sridevi in Chaalbaaz. She is totally subtle in films like Mirabai and Kinara. Please do not put her in same sentence as Katrina at least.

Hema Malini's reign, popularity, consistency at box office and stardom is bigger than any other actress of Hindi cinema.

I will not talk of comeback because Hema is from an era when different scripts were not attempted unlike today. When different scripts were beginning to be attempted, she and Amitabh gave hit in Baghban and even won best jodi awards/polls.

Hema is relevant in culture even today. Trailblazer of sorts considering actresses before her were forgotten as soon as they stopped getting lead roles. She did redefine the female superstar regardless of debates on acting.

Hema's acting better than sridevi, you got to be kidding me.

I prefer originals. Whether it was Seeta aur Geeta or Ram aur Shyam. Kishen Kanhaiya, Chaalbaaz pale in comparison.

Characters in Chaalbaaz are too caricaturish. Especially Anupam Kher who was at his irritating worst!

I found Sridevi's acting OTT too but I excuse it thinking she behaved like this because the scaredy one was given injections and drugs and braver one was alcoholic.

SAG is one of the best heroine oriented films and one of Hema's best perfs.

Well made doesn't neccessarily mean better acting. Just look at sri's emotion, look at the way she demonstrates fear and anxiety, the way she shakes everytime anupam kher is angry, she was more natural and innocent, that she made many cry, I did not get the same impact from Seeta Aur Gheeta. Chaalbaaz is memorable because of sri's acting alone.

performance, lets bring konkena, tabu, smita patil, meena kumari, nutan, viday, shabana azmi, etc.
here the topic is who ruled bollywood...i think they asking for popularity, stayed on top for longest period of time.
hema, sri, madhuri, and kat comes to mind when i read teh title.
and someone said vijayantimala, damn right, she was ruling before hema showed up. so yeah, she ruled for some time too.
but solid runnings, gotta be hema, sri and mads. katrina may have zero acting, but for past 7/8 yrs she is here, there, and everywhere. she had good competition (again i am talking about ruling boxoffice, popularity), pc, kareena, ashes, dips, anuskhas, and every day new gals on friday...but she kept winning popular polls, movies at boxoffice, endorsements, etc..
just watch, sing is bling is going to be a bling bling...while singh is a king made kat queen.
and no, i am not a hater of other actresses.

Performance doesn't just mean arthouse movie, IMO sridevi or madhuri could do arthouse movies and may even do it better. For me performance means the type of character, the genre, the portrayal of acting in difference situation fitting to the scenes. EV entertained me as well as it was a brilliant movie, brilliantly acted and has resulted into it's iconic status that many movies and tv shows and countries have been inspired by. Smita or shabna were good actresses but they were limited in genres thats why they only acted in arthouse film, something sridevi already did in south before the age of 21.
