Noted DJ Aqeel was arrested in Dubai for allegedly possessing a banned substance - ecstacy (0.4 gms). Surprisingly Aqeel has never been seen smoking or drinking at any party. The couple had flown Indian Airlines flight. So this news came as a shock to many in the glamour world.
We spoke to some of the famous DJs, to find out whether in a world of bright colours, loud music and late nights is any help taken to keep their energy levels high?
"I have never seen him (Aqeel) taking drugs. He will never do such a kind of thing," said DJ Mukey, resident DJ of Capitol, Asoka Hote, Delhil. Aqeel was the entertainment manager there for a few months.
DJ Saaz from UK was also surprised. "I have never seen him drinking or doping at a gig or after he is done with his party. As he is the most successful DJ in the business, someone trying to frame him might not be a surprise. I have to admit though that taking drugs is very common in our profession as it gives one a high to keep the party rocking."
DJ Akbar Sami added, "No, it can't be true. Also, if one or two people are doing it, it does not mean that all are doping. Aqeel is fun to be with; he's laughing all the time."
DJ Aqeel is Zayed Khan's elder brother-in-law and was arrested on 3 June at 10.30 PM at Dubai's airport. He had gone there to perform at the Trilogy Club, accompanied by his wife Farah, a jewellery designer by profession.
Aqeel was also going to release his new remix video of Wada Karo Nahin Chhodoge Tum Mera Saath at the club. He had shot to fame with The Return of Daddy mix, which had Ayesha Takia in the album.

In 2001 Fardeen Khan was arrested by the Central Narcotics Control Bureau, Mumbai for buying and possessing 10 gms of cocaine. The police had set a watch to catch the drug-dealer, unfortunately Fardeen at that moment was buying the stuff. He was released on paying Rs 20,000 as bail, as he had brought the stuff for consumption. Fardeen is Zayed and Farah's first cousin. His case is still going on.
2003: Farhan Azmi along with four of his friends was arrested in Dubai for allegedly possessing drugs. Along with him were his three friends—car dealer Dilip Chhabria's son, an automobile engineer and another friend. They were caught at the airport. This restauranter is now popular as actress Ayesha Takia's boyfriend.
2005: That year saw two Indians arrested for possessing drugs. Fashion guru Bangalore Prasad Bidappa, who had gone to Dubai for a show, was found carrying hashish or hash. He had to stay in jail for 12 days before his lawyer could bring him out. He had admitted to smoking grass. Reportedly he has been banned from entering Dubai.
Actor Vijay Raaz went for the shooting of Firoz Nadiadwala's Deewane Huya Paagal to Dubai. At the airport, a packet was found in his suitcase containing cocaine. Vijay was shocked at the discovery and denied any knowledge of the packet. He had to spend 12 days in jail, before Firoz's lawyers got him out. Vijay managed to complete his work within four days and came back to the country. Later he went back to Dubai for the film's second schedule.
