I never found this film great. Never understood the hype around it. I like it only out of nostalgia now. Other SRK-Kajol films are better than this.
I do not find Raj ideal. I especially disapprove of his "acting" to impress Simran's family. Was he really that nice and well mannered or merely pretending in front of family and village folks to get the girl? In end also only his love for girl seems genuine, nothing else (what all he was pretending).
The film is running at this theatre only at behest of YRF. They will make sure it completes 1000 weeks. Or as long as they want it.
They have taken inspiration from Barjatya films while making this, like focus on great Indian wedding and traditions, using antakshri to confess love, not running away and instead working hard to impress girl's babuji etc.
No denying this film had huge influence on films of 90s. Suddenly everyone started going to foreign locations, hero-heroine fell in love abroad but would return to India to impress and convince heroine's parents.
I sort of grudge the success of this film for slotting and typecasting SRK...the pre DDLJ SRK was a more natural, brave actor...
