Karan:

He is the elder son of the Modi family. He loves his mother a lot. He is sweet, shy and very polite. He initially does not want to marry Sakshi but under circumstances he is forced to marry her. Eventually he falls in love with her. He loves his sister Latika but is irked by her behavior many a times. He loves Sharda a lot and always supports her.

Sakshi:

She is the elder daughter in law of the Modi family and Karan's wife. She love Sharda a lot and believes in educating her. She can do anything for Sharda. She also falls in love with Karan eventually. She loves her new family and is trying to adjust in every possible way with the help of Sharda. She has a modern thinking but is traditional by heart with good values. She is the ideal daughter in law anybody would want.

Sharda:

She is the wife of Suresh Modi and mother of Karan, Latika and Chirag. She is very innocent and sweet. She loves her family a lot and is the ideal homemaker. She is uneducated but is very good at making patola sarees. Sakshi motivates her to study and establish her new identity. She loves Sakshi a lot and helps her adjust in the house. Both Sharda and Sakshi share a very good mother-daughter relationship.

Latika:

She is the daughter of the Suresh and Sharda Modi and wife of Prateek. She has a daughter Diya. She loves Diya very much. She works with her dad and is very good at it. She is very much focussed on her career and often neglects her family for work. She initially does not like Sakshi but later she also likes her.

Suresh:

He is the husband of Sharda and the father of Karan, Chirag and Latika. He is an egoistic man and has work as his only priority. He loves his daughter Latika a lot and is always in her favour even if she is wrong. He thinks Karan is very irresponsible but is happy with him once he starts working. He is happy with Sharda's household work and is not in the favour of her studying. He discourages her regarding her education always.

Prateek:

He is the husband of Latika and father of Diya. He is humble
and gives equal importance to family and work but is unhappy with Latika not giving ample time to family and giving the utmost importance to work. He loves Diya a lot and respects Sharda very much.

Diya:

She is the daughter of Latika and Prateek. She is very sweet
and loves her parents a lot. She has a great bonding with her nani(i.e Sharda) and loves her. She is shown to be suffering from juvenile diabetes.

Chirag:

He is the younger son of Sharda and Suresh and a spoilt
brat. He does not respect Sharda and always takes undue advantage of her since she is uneducated. He pretends to be good in front of Suresh against Sharda and sometimes Sakshi too. He gets influenced under bad company and often gets into bad habits.

Dadi:

She is the mother of Suresh and the dadi of Karan, Latika
and Chirag. She is sweet and finds Sharda to be an ideal daughter in law. She always supports Suresh and is also against Sharda's education. She can be convinced very easily.

Sharda's sir:

He is Sharda's teacher in classes. He was shown to be strict
at first but later he is shown to be humble. He recognised Sharda's potential and gives her good opportunities. He keeps motivating her to do her best and make herself a new identity.

Suresh decides to get Karan married to his business partner's daughter Sakshi but Karan is not prepared to get married. Sharda, though being the backbone of the family is looked down upon by her husband n children (except Karan) because she is illiterate. She has tremendous love for her whole family n overlooks their insults but deep down she gets hurt for being belittled n has a lot of pain n regret for being illiterate but her husband does not give importance to her feelings.

She does not get to see her daughter-in -laws photo but is confident that Suresh must have chosen the right bride for their son. She decides to go to Ahmedabad to buy an exclusive saree for her DIL. Once she reaches the station, she faces a lot trouble in finding her reserved seat. She is taunted by some young commuters n is pushed down. Just at that time a young beautiful girl named Sakshi helps her to get up and scolds the commuters for being so insensitive towards an elderly person. Sakshi helps Sharda find her seat n tells her to get educated n not get pushed around. She further tells her that she has come to Mumbai to elope with her boyfriend Aditya as her mother is getting her match fixed with her business partner's son. After making Sharda comfortable, she leaves, leaving her mobile behind. Just then a call comes, Sharda cannot see Sakshi anywhere, so she decides to answer the call. The call is from Aditya. She is shocked to know that Aditya has ditched Sakshi. Aditya tells that he has got a job offer from abroad, so he won't be marrying Sakshi. Just then Sakshi comes to get back her mobile n gets to know from Sharda that Aditya has betrayed her. Sakshi is adamant that Aditya will come n waits for him at the station. The train slowly starts leaving from the platform. Sharda keeps on calling frantically to Sakshi to hold her hand n board the train which will take her back home. Finally Sakshi agrees n holds Sharda's hand. From here starts a unique story - a unique bond between a MIL n DIL.

Sharda advices Sakshi to forget her past n get married to the person her mother has chosen for her. These words of Sharda have a deep effect on Sakshi, she decides to go for an arranged marriage.

On her engagement day, Sakshi visits her inlaws place n is shocked to see that her MIL is none other than the woman she met the day before. Even Sharda is shocked to see Sakshi but accepts her heartily as her DIL. Karan n Sakshi gets engaged.

Karan tries various ways to get their marriage cancelled but at last he marries Sakshi for his family's sake but doesn't like Sakshi at all. Most of the time Karan n Sakshi quarrel with each other but day by day Sharda n Sakshi's bond becomes stronger. Sakshi feels sad for her MIL when her children n husband behaves rudely with her n feels bad to see her MIL giving thumb impression. One day the manager of Sharda Textiles, taking advantage of Sharda being uneducated, makes her sign (thumb impression) some business documents. Later Suresh comes to know that Sharda has unknowingly signed documents in which Suresh has sold his latest property to Mr. Verma. Because of this Suresh looses a deal n suffers a huge loss. Suresh feels insulted n angry. He rushes back to Modi mansion n blames Sharda for being illiterate. All the members of Modi mansion are extremely upset with Sharda. Karan tries to speak up for his mother but Suresh shuts him up. Sharda is heartbroken n breaks down in tears. Sakshi feels very bad for her MIL n decides to help her to find her true identity. Sakshi insists Sharda to write n makes her understand the importance of education. Sharda is in two minds but Sakshi keeps on encouraging her n gets her secretly admitted in an institution where she can read, write n learn. On the other hand Karan joins office n is having a tough time managing things. His elder sister is not that happy to see Karan joining office.

Sharda is nervous on her 1^st day to the institute, as she has never been in an education institute in her entire life. Some students assume her to be a teacher n makes fun of her. Sharda feels humiliated n leaves the classroom. Everyday Sharda goes out of the house but does not go to attend class, instead she sits on a bench n helps a poor girl in doing embroidery on sarees. This continues for a few days, Suresh comes to know about Sharda attending classes n gets very angry. Even Sakshi comes to know that her MIL is avoiding going to classes. Sakshi tells her FIL that she insisted Sharda to get educated n seeks permission from him, to allow Sharda to continue her education. Suresh agrees to this but taunts Sharda. On the day of Saraswati puja Sharda feels humiliated as Suresh insists to write the message in the book, all by himself. It is then that Sharda decides to study n assures Sakshi that she will study hard n make her feel proud. She makes Sakshi her guru n seeks her blessings. From here starts Sharda's journey of making her own identity.

This time around Sakshi gets Sharda admitted to an institute where all the students are more or less of her age group, so that Sharda feels comfortable with her classmates. Sharda gets introduced to her teacher - Professor Sirish Kamath. Sharda learns to write English alphabets n gets introduced to the world of knowledge.

Though Sakshi has successfully helped her MIL in getting educated her married life remains stranded. Both Karan n Sakshi just pretends to be happy in front of the Modis but Sharda could make out that nothing was going right in their relationship. She tells Karan n Sakshi to meet her n advices them to become complete strangers. She tells them that first they should become good friends n then take their relationship ahead. (From now onwards I will write KaSak for Karan n Sakshi). KaSak decides to follow Sharda's words n their relationship, truly hits a happier note.From here starts KaSak's journey to find their marriage's true identity

They become strangers n enjoy each other's company. They become boyfriend n girlfriend. They talk to each other for hours, they organize a Pajama party in honour of Sharda as Sharda could successfullytell an essay on myself' completely on her own n her professor was highly impressed with her. Karan takes out Sakshi for Valentine 's Day date n they spent some lovely romantic moments together. After this date Sakshi realizes that she is in love with Karan. She starts taking a lot of care for Karan n showers him with attention just as a wife does but Karan feels that she is not giving him any space n slowly starts getting irritated with her. In the mean time, Ishwari i.e Fui of Suresh n her DIL Bhagwati arrives at Modi mansion. They r extremely back dated n believes that a woman's place is at home n the less educated the better. For the first few days, with the help of Sakshi, Sharda could manage to go to her classes without Fui knowing. In her class Sharda learnt articles, vowels n learns to read a few words. During Fui's stay, Sakshi decides to go to temple with Karan n wakes him up very early. She insists that they should walk bare-feet n go to the temple, while returning Sakshi hurts her foot but Karan talks to her very rudely, later a massive argument follows between them in which Karan tells Sakshi that she is encroaching on his freedom. Sakshi decides to leave Karan n Modi mansion. Sharda allows her to go. After Sakshi leaves Karan feels guilty n misses her very much. He decides to bring her back. In Modi mansion Sharda's classmate Ruksaar, gives a call to pass on some information about their classes. Fui takes the call n comes to know that Sharda is attending classes secretly. Fui gets very angry n insults Sharda by calling her a liar, she decides not to eat food. Even Sharda's MIL is very upset with her n scolds her.

On the other side Sakshi is eagerly waiting for Karan. She senses that everything is not right back home. When Karan arrives she insists him to take her home. Fui makes a plan to stop Sharda from going to class by inviting guests over but Sakshi comes at the nick of time n saves her MIL n succeeds in sending her to class. Fui decides to take revenge n break this saas- bahu jodi forever.

In the meantime Sharda's youngest son Chirag falls into bad company n starts coming home dead drunk Sharda's daughter Latika is also having trouble in her married life.

One day KaSak go out for shopping n Sakshi gets locked in the trial room for an hour n faints. Karan, who was busy watching a cricket match, completely forgets about his wife. After the match gets over, he realizes that his wife is not around n goes looking for her. Sakshi is very upset with Karan for being so irresponsible. This leads to a tiff in between them. An upset, inattentive Sakshi crosses the road n gets hit by a car. Karan immediately takes her to the hospital.

On the other side in Sharda's class, Sharda is very happy that she could write her name n has been selected as the class monitor but she feels uncomfortable n senses that something bad is going to happen to Sakshi. She calls up Karan n comes to know about Sakshi's accident. Both Karan n Sharda brings back Sakshi home, after being treated. Karan assures his mom that he will take care of Sakshi. Karan realizes that he has fallen in love with Sakshi. KaSak comes quite close to each other. Sakshi tells Karan about Fui's plan to stop Sharda from attending classes. KaSak joins hand n foils most of Fui's evil plans. On the day of Holi Fui comes up with a master plan. She tells Chiraag to bring bhang n mixes it in Sakshi's mango juice. She provokes Sakshi to play Holi with Baa, being well aware that Baa stopped playing Holi, from the day she became a widow. Intoxicated Sakshi unknowingly pours colour on Baa. Suresh fumes in anger but Sharda firmly defends her DIL. She knows that it is Chirag who is behind all this. Later, after becoming sober Sakshi realizes that she was tricked by Fui. She apologises to Baa n threats Fui that if she does not leave Modi mansion, she will tell her truth to all. Fui leaves the next day.

On that very day, Latika n her husband Prateek have a huge argument n latika leaves her husband's house n comes over to Modi mansion along with their daughter Diya Diya upset over her parent's fights runs away from school. On the other side Chirag gets drunk n gets arrested in a hit n run case. Sharda is in her class, unaware of all the mishaps back home. She gets her report card. She is first in class. She is very happy n rushes home to share the good news with all but on reaching home she is shocked to hear about Diya n Chirag. An angry Suresh blames Sharda for everything n tells her that her books have become a curse for the family n burns them. He leaves along with Karan to bring back Chirag from jail A dejected Sakshi rushes to save the books n burns her hands. Sharda firmly tells Sakshi that she will no longer pursue her studies. Later ShaSak manages to find out Diya.Sharda slaps Chirag n cuts his driving license to pieces. In this way she teaches Chirag a lesson. To make Latika's marriage work Sharda n Suresh takes her out for dinner n makes her understand that it is very important for a child to have both her parents. Latika who was adamant on divorcing Prateek mellows down.

Sharda stops going to her coaching center, so Sakshi with the help of Sharda's Sir comes up with a unique idea to send Sharda back to her classes. Suresh gets an award for working on the field of woman empowerment. A Television channel approaches Suresh for making a documentary film on him especially the way he supports his wife to get educated. Suresh gets flattered n takes Sharda to her coaching class for the shoot. So indirectly he allows Sharda to continue her studies. The next day, at the Award ceremony function a happy Sharda hands over the award to Suresh, though Suresh feels humiliated to receive the award from his wife's hand.

By this time around Karan is head over heels in love with his wife. He tries to propose to Sakshi many times but fails miserably. Finally he manages to tell her that he loves her but before Sakshi can confess her feelings,Suresh calls him n tells him to leave immediately for Indonasia to meet a client. Karan hugs Sakshi n leaves. KaSak starts missing each other very much n for them love is in the air but their happiness is short lived because Sakshi's ex- boyfriend Aditya enters her life. He saves Sharda n Diya's life n Sharda brings him home. Sakshi is shocked to see him. She feels insecure n fears that when Karan will come to know about Aditya she will loose him forever. Karan comes back n gets romantic with his wife. Aditya sees this n gets jealous.Sakshi tells Sharda about Aditya n Sharda tells her that she will always support her. Meanwhile Aditya decides to create a rift between KaSak as he wants sakshi back at any cost. Karan comes to know about Aditya n Sakshi's past relationship by seeing a photo of them in his wallet. Sakshi writes a letter to Karan confessing her love for him but Aditya changes the letter in which he writes that Sakshi still loves Aditya. Karan not knowing the truth, is heartbroken n decides to end their marriage. He tells Sakshi that she is free to go with anyone she wants to n tells her a lot of bitter things. A clueless Sakshi gets devastated on hearing this n decides to leave Modi mansion forever but Sharda stops her. This time around Sakshi makes Sharda her guru n tells her to teach her the mantras of leading a happy married life. This way both, women come together to be for one another n support each other. Sharda organizes a doll's marriage ceremony to teach her children the importance of marriage n the forgotten vows which they had taken while getting married. This doll marriage had a positive effect on Latika. She happily went back home with her husband.

A suspecting Karan continues ignoring n hurting his wife but Sakshi always remembers her MIL's golden's words to be patient n tries her level best to make her marriage work In between Aditya creates more misunderstanding between KaSak n even hacks Karan's laptop to steal a project from him. Aditya somehow manages to convince Karan that Sakshi cannot forget him because he is her 1^st love. Karan who truly loves Sakshi n wants to see her happy decides to divorce her n set her free. On the other side Sakshi finds the letter n realizes that Aditya has changed its content. She understands why Karan has started doubting her so much. She decides to confront Aditya n goes to meet him, where she tells him loud n clear that she loves Karan a lot.

Sharda gets selected for Adult Literacy conference to be held in London. Suresh reluctantly gives Sharda permission to go to London. So Sharda is flying high for the time-being n is all set to go to London.

1. Valentine's Day:
Sakshi finds a note asking her to be ready as they have a date tonight. He also gifts her a dress. She reaches the venue to find that Karan has booked the whole restaurant for them and decorated it very well. He has arranged a special dinner. He gives her roses and a beautiful necklace. They both dance to the song Aadha ishq and get lost in each other.

2. Proposal:
Karan has planned a surprise for Sakshi . He gifts her a dress and asks her to come to the gazebo and the gazebo is decorated with red drapes. He gives her two more dresses in which he wants to see her. They enjoy some sweet romantic moments after which Karan finally sits down on his knees and confesses his love for her. They hug.

3. Kasak's journey from Ahmedabad to Mumbai:
Sakshi was upset with Karan and went to her mother's house. Karan comes to take her and they head back to Mumbai. Their journey from Ahmedabad to Mumbai is very lovey-dovey. The car breaks and they get stranded in a forest. They get a room where they share some romantic moments with Sakshi getting scared by a roar. Later Sakshi gets a sprain in her feet and Karan takes her in her arms to the car.

4. Sakshi's accident:
Sakshi has a minor accident after which Karan takes care of her. He helps her get up and then again sleep during which they share some romantic moments when Sakshi slips and Karan holds her. The next day is Holi and Karan helps her set the holika and do the arrangements for the pooja during which they share many romantic moments.

5. Karan goes to Sakshi's house:
Sakshi is upset with Karan and has come to her mother's house. She is in the balcony and is missing Karan when Karan comes through the balcony. She screams and Karan covers her mouth and they share an eyelock. Karan hugs her and apologizes. Sakshi gets coffee for Karan and herself and they both enjoy talking to each other. Again when Sakshi sees a shadow outside her room, she covers Karan's mouth and they share an eyelock. Later in the morning they have a cute lovey-dovey nok-jhok.
