Ranveer Singh comes clean on his equation with his alleged girlfriend, Deepika Padukone

Even before Ranveer Singh made his mark as an actor, he made news for his link-ups. Post his debut (with Band Baaja Baraat; 2010), rumours about him dating his co-star, Anushka Sharma, emerged. Since then, with every subsequent release, he has been linked to almost all of his female co-stars. The most recent one on that list is Deepika Padukone, who he worked with in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013). Now, as he prepares to work with her and Anushka in two separate projects, we get him to open up about the women in his life.
Have you ever considered going public about your relationship with Deepika to put an end to all the speculation?
But we aren't seeing each other, so what's there to admit? We are close friends and I enjoy her company. We grew close over the course of our film and, within the film circle, she is one of my closest friends. There's nothing more to it. Some people might jump the gun and assume that we are romantically involved, but we are not. As long as they (rumours) have no effect on our relationship, I am okay. And I think the comfort level we share when it comes to getting clicked together is testament to the fact that we have nothing to hide. There's nothing wrong in that, and that's why it doesn't bother me. It's a free country. People can jump to conclusions or jump off a building if they want (smiles).
Does the extra interest in your life bother you?
Not really. I don't subscribe to tabloids. If given a choice between reading an article about me and reading my script, I would go for the latter. My focus is where it should be - on my work.
We have heard Karan Johar is upset with you since you opted out of Shuddhi over Bajirao Mastani (BM).
I will talk about people I am working with, like Mr Bhansali (Sanjay Leela; film-maker). I don't see a point in talking about something that I'm not involved in.
Tell us about the Zoya Akhtar film you are working on.
It has a wonderfully written script...It's a challenge for me because the kind of body language, mindset, energy, demographics and socio-economic background the character has is very different from me.
Apparently, the same role was first offered to Ranbir Kapoor.
Such things don't matter to me. I got a call, I heard the script, and I was on from the word go. After a film is made, no one cares who the film was offered to first.
Was working on Bajirao Mastani challenging as well?
Yes, the prep and characterisation for Bajirao is going to be very distinct because it's a biographical representation of a real-life person. So yes, I will be going bald, learning horseriding and sword-fighting, and learning Marathi.
Are you looking forward to working with Anushka Sharma again?
I share a special chemistry with her. I haven't worked with her for a while now, so, yes, I am very excited. Actually, I was waiting for the next opportunity to work with Anushka because I believe that she is one of the best young actors in the country.
