How important are lyrics in a song? - What wud a song be without words? The words make up the presence and mood of the song. What wud we sing along to without words? Lyrics, I would say, are extremely important in a song.
Is it the lyrics or the singer's presentation which touches one's heart? - I think the singer's presentation of the song, and the lyrics both together make up a truly wonderful song. Just imagine your fav song, without that singer singing it. Wud it be the same? Wud you still enjoy listening to it? Or imagine your fav song with totally different lyrics. Lyrics that didn't suit the song at all. Wud you still like the song?
Does the music direction have any connection the way these lyrics are presented to you? - Yes, definitely. Music is like a path that the words follow. If that path is cracked, or broken, the song will not have any tune that you can hum. And it will not be a song you want to hear again and again. If that path is smooth, then we hear a wonderful song. And this goes for both fast, and slow music.
