Hi all!
Hope you're doing well, long time no chat!!
So, essentially I've been thinking about this and wanted to discuss it with y'all.
We often hear the cliched term, "Don't judge a book by it's cover"; "Beauty is only skin deep" "what's on the inside is what matters" And don't get me wrong, I agree with that all, and it is very very true. It's something that we should all abide by. But has anyone else noticed a certian level of double standard?
For instance, the above stated lines are applied to the average Joe/Joana. Meaning, it's to make everyone realize that being "really good looking" is not everything- it doesn't make you a good person automatically, and it's not what defines a person. Look's aren't everything. And I agree with that notion.
HOWEVER. What's disparaging is that Rudra is doing EXACTLY that. He IS Judging a book by it's cover. He is associating beauty with cheating, betrayal, selfishness and being a bad person. Which is TOTALLY ironic because Rudra himself is VERY Beautiful (LIKE SERIOUSLY RUDRA?! HAVE YOU LOOKED IN A MIRROR DUDE? YOUR FREAKING SMOKING HOT.)
In that spirit I'd really like to see a couple of things possibly happen:
i. I'd LOVE to see Paro point out his beauty (my Hindlish stinks, so I'm typing this in English, but Imagine Paro saying it LOLOL)
"Have you seen yourself? Looked in the Mirror? Looked at women who gaze at you? You're beautiful. Strong, viril and attractive. Yet, here you are, despite that, you are intelligent, brave, loyal, trustworthy and a protector. Why is my face conspicuous and suspicious, but yours not? Is it because you're a man, and I'm a woman? If my beauty makes me terrible, than yours makes you just as bad." Or something like that.
ii. If It's Paro's beauty that makes Rudra uncomfortable, I'd like to see Paro be frustrated enough by his double standard and irrational perspective that she is willing to SACRIFICE her beauty. She's just that type of a girl, where she'd burn her hands without a second thought, so I do think her character is capable of going to the extent to alter her appearance in order for him to understand that her looks aren't everything to her and are not her main attribute. this would show Rudra two things:
A. That Paro is NOT a vain, "khubsurat" aurat- she's HUMAN, and she's a WONDERFUL human. and if her looks are distracting enough, she'll make sure that they aren't a factor.
B. Rudra would have the realization that he loves Paro (or at least cares for her deeply) AS SHE IS, and that her looks aren't what define her, but her spirit, fight and loyalty amoung many other things.
iii. Paro interacting with Sunheri, or someone else who isn't the classical definition of "beauty". Sunheri is a breath of fresh air. I think she's beautiful and sweet- but she's been one of those character's that has been very open about her weight, and it's so relate able 😳; although Paro has already had this discussion with Sunheri that each person is unique in their own way, and she is perfect the way she is, I would REALLY like Rudra to over hear Paro reiterating the same message to Sunheri again in a different context (Perhaps if Sunheri were getting a Rishta and some harsh words were said to her by the Mother of the Groom and Paro stands up to them) Essentially something that would show Rudra- in a public sphere how Looks don't make the person, their virtues does.
In essence, Rudra's hypocrisy and odd double standards isn't that new actually. People judge EVERYONE based on their apperance. Someone overweight is Lazy. Someone beautiful is often seen as vain. The list goes on and on.
Rangrasiya could give us all a great teachable moment: Your Appearence, whatever it is- Does not make you who you are, and don't let anyone else ever tell you otherwise or treat you based on that.
Cheers,
Reeha
