Fear...
Fear is of many kinds and very very ugly in all its forms. And two fears are the most clear and resident. First comes the fear of death. Second comes the fear of someone you love.
On Rudra's face, the second kind of fear took over. The intense eyes, the tight cheekbones, the strict jawline melted into a face of a vulnerable baby, the moment the thought struck him that something could happen to his hostage - Paro. All the anger and frustration against Laila melted into a spine-chilling fear that this woman had done something to Paro. And he ran...Leaving Laila aside, pushing his darling Mom aside, he ran straight into Paro's room, the fear looming large that Paro was in danger...and when he couldn't find her anywhere...horror took over his face and his voice echoed with the word that sounds the most beautiful from his mouth - Paro...
Who says that Rudra is incapable of emotions or vulnerability? The very thought that Paro had been harmed took off Rudra's ogre mask and sent him running in her direction like a madman. THIS... THIS is the power of EMOTIONS that you develop for someone and they start to overtake you. We have seen angry Rudra, crying Rudra , soft Rudra but to see him so terrified for Paro is a FIRST. So much so, that today he gave you a glimpse of what he can do to anyone if anything happens to Paro. And that dagger would include Laila's neck.
And all that i have said above is something that Laila has read like the back of her hand. She has understood after Rudra's and Paro's eyelock and Rudra's "Theek hai?" that Paro is in his blood now. That she is no more a witness, but Rudra's 'Dulhan' . That this caveman has developed a weakness of the heart, developed a relationship with that Dulhan. Its easy. When you love someone , you can hear their heartbeats even before they do. Rudra and Paro may take a lifetime to realize if and when they are in love. But Laila has already read it that Paro has won Rudra for life.
If you don't believe what am saying , look at her face when she tells Rudra - " Jahaan jahaan woh dulhan basee hai tere andar, naagin ki zehar ki tarah kheench ke nikaal doongi."
I cannot take Laila's side, I cannot justify her stand - but I understand the loss that she is feeling. Somewhere , she always knew that Rudra will never love her and that he will never be hers. But she had a consolation that Rudra will never love anyone. But she is seeing that hope go away because she is seeing Rudra and Paro happen. Its hitting her now that the one she loves never loved her and will never love her back. That they were always an arrangement with a tinge of confidante relationship. That's it. Rudra never promised anything never committed anything , never even looked at her with affection - and now, all these harsh realities have hit her.
I can't even say that she has lost Rudra. Rudra was never hers and when Paro came along, the soulmate connection sealed them.
When Laila rages and rants at Rudra, cries and hollers - you can only see Rudra's stone face that does not return feelings. The only time his face crumbles into fear is when she mentions that she has done something to Paro. And that makes him turn away from her and run in Paro's direction, but not without a warning that if anything happens to Paro,she will regret setting her eyes on Paro.
That said, you know what is the most hitting part of this entire Paro-Rudra and Laila fight? Rudra, DID NOT EVEN ONCE DENY any allegation of Laila . His protests were as good as null , as though, he really thinks Paro is his Dulhan.
A very layered scene that tells Laila and the audience that Rudra will never separate himself from Paro.
Apart from that, Rudra's and Paro's aankhon ki gustaakhiyaan a la Romeo and Juliet from the balcony was a reflection that Paro really is becoming his weakness - a point emphasized by Laila two scenes later. After all, the moment Paro disappeared from the balcony, Rudra became restless.
For the rest, good screenplay. Scenes were short, crisp, all important progress points covered and now Thakurain Sa is getting nostalgic at the haweli and Rudra is going bonkers over his missing Paro.
And i had said this before. Both Rudra and Paro, will regret ever crossing paths with Laila. Even if for flat five minutes, that is.
Don't hurt yourself and harm them, Laila. Paro has won Rudra without even trying. He is going where he belongs. And its not that you didn't know it will happen. You always knew it at the back of your mind... you did. He can be human enough to catch you before you fall , but he cannot keep you in his heart - and that is why its Paro in his arms. Not you.
You can fight tooth and nail for something , you can even conquer it , but if it doesn't love you, it will stay sad, gloomy , wilt away and die, and leave you with a broken heart. Nature's law.
