What audience want?

When it comes to TV audience, it seems like a single term but there are sub categories within the term and it is determined based on how a viewer relate to a show. While the topic is general in nature, it is derived based on my experience as viewer of QH.
In general, audience watch soaps to escape from day to day mundane aspects of life and also to derive pleasure of parallel life and emotions that come along such as romance, comedy, angst, guilt through the connection viewer develop with the characters, which some times morphs in to an attachment that is too strong, which can even extend to the actors that are playing the role.

QH have viewers with varied demographics such as age, location, religion, gender and profession but in reality they are bucketed into QH viewers categories not based on demographics but based on how they relate to the show. Few watched for characters and the story ( category 1) few watched for the leads (category 2) few watched for story as well as the leads ( category 3) and few even watched for the heck of it ( category 4). The Fourth category is just interested in killing some time and have no targeted expectations from the show. First 3 categories have specific expectations from the show and if they are not met then they cease to exist as the show viewers. Lets get in to the detailed analysis of what each of first 3 categories are expecting and what QH have to offer at this moment.

Category 1: Expect a tight knit story with progressive characters and relatable performances. QH is currently able to sufficiently satisfy this group with its fast paced story telling and decent performances.
Category 2: Expect to see certain actors to portray certain characters. QH replaced its main lead and as a result can't offer this group's core requirement.
Category 3: Not only expect good content but also specific about actors playing the specific role. This group can still derive some entertainment from current QH but they may be still debating in accepting the actors/replacements.

Depending on which category you belong QH may or may not be able to offer entertainment to you at this juncture. Every one are entitled to their likings but at the same time it is essential to respect each others feelings too. There are so many topics that turned in to fights on the forum recently, which prompted me to make this post. A healthy or even a funny debate is entertaining but we should not fight among ourselves to an extent of hurting others feeling just because we don't watch QH for same reasons. Live and let live should be our motto, shows are for our entertainment and life is too short to have grudge worth fights over fictional shows, media and actors.

I have no intention to hurt any particular group feelings, if you disagree with me please express it in a civil manner or agree to disagree and ignore my post.

PS: On public demand, including category 5 - This group watch shows exclusively for eye candies, acting talent is not a must have.

I don't watch SSLK, therefore, won't be able to add any value with my thoughts as soap to soap dynamics are a bit different.

Great post. And I totally agree with your analysis of the different viewing groups.
I use to be Category 1. I watched the show for the characters and the storyline. The first character I initially got attracted towards was Zoya. I liked that she was loud, opinionated, and was not afraid of standing up for herself. She had her own quirkiness as well. For me she was a new type of character that I had personally never seen in other Hindi TV serials. (Keep in mind that I am actually Taiwanese/Chinese and am not Indian. So my exposure to TV soaps is relatively limited. I only started watching Hindi TV serials 4 years ago.)

I liked Zoya and Najma's relationship
I liked Zoya and Dilshaad's relationship
I was interested in finding out what happened between Rashid and Dilshaad
I liked Zoya and Asad's dynamic relationship...their chemistry during that period of time was the best...funny and irritating fights. Though at times I disliked how angry Asad would sometimes get and the mean things he said. And at times I liked his OCD behavior and understood the pain he held inside of him.
I enjoyed the Asad and Dilshaad bond.

I think the one thing I truly liked about the storyline was that it was not your typical Sass Bahu stuff. We weren't going to see Dilshaad turn evil on Zoya and have Asad caught in between. The story was really about life, karma, and destiny.

Eventually I moved from Category 1 to Category 3. I became admirers of the actors/actresses who played the characters.

I enjoyed KSG's acting. He was and will always be the original Asad for me. But things have changed and due to unforseen circumstances he is no longer part of the show. However, Asad's character is still there so I continue to watch the show.

I am a fan of Surbhi's acting. I think she's really good for a newcomer. And I have to admit because she is still in the show I am still sticking around to find out if Zoya will find her Abbu. Will her mother receive justice for her death?

I had seen Vikrant in other shows and knew he could act. And I thoroughly enjoyed his portrayal of Ayaan. And I am keeping my fingers cross all that buzz about him coming back is true.

The veteran actors no doubt hold my deepest regards and respect. Alka Ji and Tej sir are just superb. I have enjoyed every scene they have ever been involved in. And with the recent Abbu track going on they are blowing me away.

I have learned my own lesson not to get severely attached to characters, actors/actresses, and jodis (reel or real) because it can leave you disappointed or hurt. So I try not to get super attached and roll with the punches. At the end of the day it really doesn't matter. There are more important things to do than obsess over these things. We all have different views and opinions. It's best to just agree that we disagree.

You mean it is airing in some primetime slot? You may be right but again prime time also differs based on targeted audience of the show...some audience can't make it to home before 9:00 PM making after 9:00 PM a prime slot for serials targeting such audience and for other serial it could be 8:00 PM as its targeted audience are available in that slot. Time slot do have its bearing but can't be the only driving force of TRPs.

Thanks for a very nice and detailed response.

You being Chinese/ Taiwanese enjoying the show tells that QH is all about raw human emotions that is not restricted to a region or a country. I live in US but have indian heritage thus the inclination towards Indian shows but it is a pleasant and welcoming change to see there are some viewers that neither live in India nor have Indian heritage but still appreciate and enjoy the show.

To be honest with you, I too loved KSG as Asad ( I didn't know KSG before QH) but my liking for story is greater than my liking for the actor, therefore, I am in a position to look beyond actor and move on with the changes as far as QH story is on track.

Also, thanks for bringing up that viewers move between categories over period of time, an interesting fact that didn't occur to me while typing the post.

As an audience i want a gud story with ofcourse moi fav's in it 😳😆 incase of QH wat happened was neither Zee nor Gul prepared the audience from before that Ksg will leave the show & out of blue one day it was told so there was hurt n pain. I had this habit of watching Ksg & Surbhi together so again to adjust with a new hero is weird for me n as a fan i wanted Ksg back once which is not wrong on mio part but i wish all the best to both Ksg, Surbhi & Gul 😊

truly a splendid observation or rather analysis .
Even i fail to understand the negativity surrounding QH . if you aren't seeing then don't comment ,but i guess people still bother to read WU or watch and deny ..( or whatever ! i mean waste of time literally ..and the place which irks me most is Forum 32 on fb . i mean why bother bashing on this page time and again ! I then feel maybe these are a bunch of immature kids who are unable to accept reality and vent out frustrations ! well good for them. How on earth they manage the real lives if they are so stuck on the reel lives !

Anyway i belong to the first category but was mostly in the second for a long period ( thanks to awesome chemistry of Asya ver 1 )which was the main reason for starting to watch a tv show ( i rarely watch TV shows ..last i watched was when in college trust me that was a very long time back ...that too coz mom used to watch !)
so yes as shared earlier viewers too shift ...depending on many factors !

i enjoy the new version a lot and i do enjoy your posts too !
have a great day or night ?
