The
dead remain very much alive at
The CW.
The network formally extended a
pilot order to iZombie , a potential
series based on the DC Comics
property adapted by Veronica
Mars creator Rob Thomas and his
frequent collaborator Diane
Rugierro, TVLine has learned.

Here's the official logline: "A med
student-turned-zombie takes a job
in the coroner's office to gain
access to the brains she must
reluctantly eat to maintain her
humanity, but with each brain she
consumes, she inherits the
corpse's memories. With the help
of her medical examiner boss and
a police detective, she solves
homicide cases in order to quiet
the disturbing voices in her head."

Additionally, The CW in-the-works
Supernatural spin-off will be called

offshoot, which will air as a
regular episode of Supernatural
this spring, will explore the

'Supernatural' Spinoff, Rob Thomas'
'iZombie,' 'Flash' Ordered to Pilot at
CW

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/supernatural-spinoff-rob-thomas-izombie-675484
The CW is doubling down on
Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas
and Supernatural .
The network has picked up to pilot
Thomas' DC Comics adaptation
iZombie, the rumored Supernatural
spinoff, and made official its pilot
order for fellow DC entry Flash , The
Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Supernatural: Tribes will explore the
clashing hunter and monster cultures
of Chicago and hails from
Supernatural's writer Andrew Dabb ,
who will exec produce alongside Eric
Kripke , Robert Singer , showrunner
Jeremy Carver and McG. Singer will
direct the Warner Bros. Television
entry.
iZombie is described as a
supernatural crime procedural that
centers on a medical-student-
turned-zombie who takes a job in the
coroner's office in order to gain
access to the brains she must
reluctantly eat to maintain her
humanity. However, with every brain
she eats, she inherits the corpse's
memories. With the help of her
medical examiner boss and a police
detective, she solves homicide cases
in order to quiet the disturbing
voices in her head.
Thomas and Veronica Mars ' Diane
Ruggiero will pen the script and
executive produce the Warner Bros.
Television and Rob Thomas
Productions entry alongside frequent
collaborators Danielle Stokdyk and
Dan Etheridge . The drama is based
on the characters created by Chris
Robertson and Michael Allred and
published in the comic from DC's
Vertigo imprint.
Finally, the network confirmed its
pilot order for Arrow spinoff The
Flash , which was formerly intended
to be a planted episode but will now
be filmed as a stand-alone. Grant
Gustin stars as scientist Barry Allen
who is given the power of super
speed, which transforms him into the
Fastest Man Alive. Arrow 's Greg
Berlanti , Andrew Kreisberg and DC's
Geoff Johns will pen the script and
executive produce alongside David
Nutter , who will direct the pilot.
Berlanti Productions' Melissa Kellner
Berman will co-EP. The previously
announced Jesse L. Martin , Danielle
Panabaker and Rick Cosnett will co-
star.
The pickups come after Supernatural
notched a three-year high
Wednesday and continue the
network's recent track record with
spinoffs. This season, The CW
successfully launched The Vampire
Diaries spinoff The Originals and,
should both Supernatural: Tribes and
Flash move forward, the network will
have three spinoffs on the air, as The
Originals is considered very likely to
return for a second season.
For Thomas, the project extends his
relationship with The CW after the
network picked up a Veronica Mars
web series spinoff that the prolific
producer also will oversee for the
network's digital platform CW Seed.
iZombie and Flash bring to four the
number of DC Comics titles to earn a
pilot order this season; Fox has
Batman prequel Gotham and NBC has
Hellblazer adaptation Constantine .
The zombie story arrives as AMC's
The Walking Dead continues to break
records for the network, ranking as
TV's No. 1 scripted drama among
adults 18-49. The series is based on
the Image Comics title created by
Robert Kirkman . NBC also is prepping
Babylon Fields, which explores what
happens when the dead rise in New
York, and ABC has Forever, a
procedural about an immortal
medical examiner.
The trio of pilot orders brings The
CW's haul to five so far this pilot
season and continues its love affair
with sci-fi under president Mark
Pedowitz .

The CW's 'Supernatural' spinoff is
set in Chicago, but will it film here?

The CW announced Wednesday that
long running drama "Supernatural" is
getting a spinoff. And unlike the
original, which follows brothers Dean
and Sam Winchester as they hunt
ghosts and monsters all over the
country, the spinoff, "Supernatural:
Tribes" will take place in Chicago.
According to Entertainment Weekly ,
"Supernatural" executive producer
Robert Singer revealed in July during
San Diego Comic Con that a potential
spinoff would be introduced as a
backdoor pilot toward the end of the
current "Supernatural" season (You
might remember "Chicago Fire" did
the same thing with its spinoff,
"Chicago PD"). Singer added that the
spinoff would "explore the clashing
monster and human characters" and
that "we'll have main characters who
are both human and monsters (and)
families of monsters and families of
hunters. ... It's much more of an
ensemble than Supernatural.' "
The original "Supernatural" is filmed
in Vancouver. Will the spinoff film
there as well or shoot on-location in
Chicago? "No word on them filming
here, yet," said Chicago Film Office
director Rich Moskal by email
Thursday.
"Supernatural" is known for having
one of the most passionate fanbases.
There's even a "Supernatural"
convention, which this year will take
place Oct. 24-26 at the Hyatt
Regency O'Hare in Rosemont.
"Supernatural" stars Jensen Ackles
and Jared Padalecki are scheduled to
attend.

Supernatural Spin-Off Exclusive:
Meet the Werewolves, Shifters
and Hunters of Tribes

The
Windy City is on the brink of all-
out war.
New intel has surfaced about The
CW's Chicago-based planted
Supernatural spin-off,
Supernatural: Tribes , and it
points to an epic battle involving
five rival monster families and a
vengeance-seeking hunter.
Read on for exclusive details on
the key players populating the
offshoot (all of whom will be
introduced in this season's 20th
episode of Supernatural) .
ENNIS ROTH | The de-facto star
of the potential series, Ennis is
"likeable, strong-willed, resolute,
with a strong sense of justice."
He's the son of a cop who grew up
in poverty. He's en route to the
police academy himself when
someone he is close to is
murdered " presumably by some
kind of monster. He meets up
with Sam and Dean and "learns
the staggering truth" that Chicago
is run by five families of monsters
(including, but perhaps not limited
to, werewolves and shape shifters)
. And with that, a new monster-
hunter is born. Fun fact:
Producers are looking to fill this
role with an African-American
actor in his early 20s.
DAVID HAYDEN | A shape-shifter
from one of Chicago's ruling
monster families. He's been living
as a human for some time, but a
tragedy propels him back into the
life. David is in his early 20s.
MARGO HAYDEN | David's
"professional, strong-willed,
determined, ambitious" shape-
shifter sister. She's an "ex-punk
rocker gone corporate" who sets
out to be the new head of the
family in the wake of a tragedy.
Margo is in her early 20s.
VIOLET DURANT | A werewolf
and part of the wealthy, powerful
Durant family. In a twist right out
of West Side Story, the early-
twentysomething is hot for family
rival David (see above), but their
love is forbidden.
JULIAN DURANT | Violet's
"savagely handsome, strong,
arrogant" twentysomething
brother and Ennis' arch nemesis.
FREDDIE COSTA | A world-weary
copy in his 30s, Freddie has a soft
spot in his heart for Ennis (he
knew his dad back in the day).
Fun fact: Freddie's got a secret.

Main characters of the spin off series:

Ennis Roth, human: Ennis is billed as the protagonist of Tribes. He is described as "likeable, strong-willed, resolute, with a strong sense of justice." Ennis, the son of a cop, is preparing to enter the police academy when, like many who become hunters, a loved one is murdered.

Along the way, he meets Sam and Dean, which is how he "learns the staggering truth" that Chicago is run by five families of monsters and becomes a hunter himself. Casting calls for Ennis are looking for an African-American actor in his early 20s.

David Hayden, shape-shifter: David comes from one of Chicago's five ruling monster families, though he's taken to a human life. However, tragedy brings him back to his old life. Age: early 20s.

Margo Hayden, shape-shifter. Margo is David's sister. She is described as "professional, strong-willed, determined, ambitious" as well as an "ex-punk rocker gone corporate." She looks to become the new head of the family in the wake of tragedy. Age: early 20s.

Violet Durant, werewolf: Violet is the member of another ruling family. However, as a werewolf, her love affair with shape-shifter David is forbidden. Age: early 20s.

Julian Durant, werewolf: Julian is Violet's brother and Ennis' arch nemesis. He is described as "savagely handsome, strong, arrogant." Age: 20s.

Freddie Costa, human: Freddie is an old friend of Ennis' father with a soft spot for Ennis. He's described as a world-weary cop with a secret. Age: 30s.
