I'm going to have to go with rebuttal for this one. 😛
I totally see where you are coming from, but I personally am really happy with the progress of the story. While I would love more ship-friendly scenes, it always bodes poorly for a show when the focus falls too narrowly on the leads and their story. One of the best things about this show, in my opinion, is the fact that they are building such strong supporting plots, which all have the guarantee of being interwoven into the main plot of the two protagonists at some point. This Tunnu thing has been building right from the first episode of the show, with his desire for a glamorous career, and we are only now seeing its intersection with the main story. It's rare to find that kind of consistency on Indian shows, especially romantic ones.
It's not that I am against cliched romance... #fallandcatch #endlesseyelocks! But I've just seen TOO MANY shows that start out with a lot of promise, and soon focus on the leads too much due to fan demands, and because that is what sells, and then run out of story really fast (usually about 100 episodes) - then we are left with contrived misunderstandings, meaningless humor that's not really funny and/or those abhorrent humshakal tracks and leaps for the rest of the show's run. If it was a limited episode format, as it is with Pakistani serials - just 25-30 episodes - then it makes a lot of sense to have most of the focus be on the leads but that is not the case here, and I really appreciate the way they are working with the format. The supporting characters are so strong that I actually like watching their scenes, and usually the most successful, long-running shows are those that have good supporting tracks.
Finally, story-wise, I don't think there's room for intensity just yet. There ARE fireworks but both our stubborn darlings are doing everything in their power to hide any evidence of them. I like to give them credit for their self-restraint! 😆 Except in situations of grave danger, or when they are vulnerable and off guard, they are not betraying one single spark, even if it's Diwali inside their hearts. That makes sense, and I think it is what makes the story so real.
I like that Abeer marvels at Meher's beauty inwardly when she dresses up but doesn't allow himself to get completely lost and googoo, and Meher doesn't close her eyes and melt every time he touches her. I always found the way the characters would lose all control around each other (even when they hated each other any other time) far-fetched in other romance shows. Here the tension is undoubtedly there, but it's subtle and mitigated by so many other feelings. It's like they can feel more than one thing at the same time! 😲😆
I do agree with you on the flashbacks though! They could easily indulge us with more fluff there, since it's clear that their first innings was full of the kind of romance we all want more of. I also miss the office, and the balance of humor and intensity we had there. I hate when office dramas get totally shifted to the household, so I'm crossing my fingers that that won't happen here!
Oh, that's completely okay⭐️
I can totally see your point because I have held the same perspective about other shows myself. I have had quite a time rolling my eyes to no end with the endless eye locks and contrived romances that have quite often graced our television screens.
But I can still see why their function is so necessary.
It's one thing if there's no substance to the story, like in other shows. But there are times when some style adds some much-needed zing to the substance, and I think this is an instance of that.
The emotional explorations of the characters who were in love go hand-in-hand with the obvious romantic feelings towards a partner. Which naturally involves quite a bit of lust and physical attraction, I suppose, which is perfectly healthy. Otherwise it'd make things very unbelievable and platonic. 😳
Yes, the Tunnu track had a strong foundation in the beginning itself, right from the time he sided with his jeeju and expressed his aspirations for a showbiz career. A good show in my opinion MUST have well-written sub-plots, because the motivations and temperaments of the people surrounding the lead characters inevitably has an effect on the protagonists. And in a show like this where almost all the characters have had a role in the separation of the couple, it becomes very very necessary.
What irks me...I guess, is the timing... I am getting the feel that too many conflicts are being presented all at once, and it's making me jittery. Bua, Shyam, his second son, Kuber- everyone is doing something to thwart the progress b/w the couple. Seemed like an overload to me.
And I feel that they could have reserved this sub-plot for later- because it could've been very well presented in the context of the office, with Tunnu coming to approach money from Abeer, for instance. But the things Abeer and Meher can discover about each other in the four walls of Meher's home, the forced circumstances that has led to propinquity- I think they have been remiss on that aspect.
I guess all I am trying to say after that rambling is that a cliched scene or two inserted in b/w wouldn't hurt. 😆 At least in the flashback, because it wouldn't look out of place. But more importantly, the present, because it's been EIGHT YEARS! I am very incredulous about the equation b/w the two in that area😆
The thing you said in red was absolutely beautiful👏 I demur, though, because I'd love to see them losing control, letting go of their impenetrable facades once in a while. As much as I enjoy their sparring, I'd also like to see them letting down their veneer.
And HALLELUJAH to the bit about office scenes- most shows present them for an episode or two and then shift them to the home setting. Even supposedly Harvard-educated businessmen work at home with their laptops *cough*IPK *COUGH*, while ad agency employees practice for a Sangeet in the office (Manmarziyan, I am looking at you😡)
Gotta say though, you presented an awesome analysis/argument! 👏⭐️ But iss baat mein- dil hai kii maanta nahi😳😃
