Nearly five years after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially cleared actor Rhea Chakraborty of all charges. The closure report stated that there was no evidence linking her or her family to any form of abetment, theft, or conspiracy in the 2020 case.
According to Hindustan Times, the report concluded that Rhea was not manipulative, nor did she play any role in pushing Sushant towards suicide. She left his Bandra apartment on June 8, six days before his death, and had no contact with him after that. The agency confirmed that there was “no illegal confinement, threat, or abetment” by Rhea or any of the accused.
Sushant’s father, KK Singh, had earlier filed a complaint against Rhea, accusing her of abetment to suicide, criminal conspiracy, and financial misappropriation. However, the CBI’s investigation found no supporting evidence. The report, filed earlier this year, effectively clears Rhea, her brother Showik Chakraborty, and her parents of all allegations.
The report outlines several key points. First, Rhea and Showik left Sushant’s home on June 8, 2020, and never returned. The only contact afterward was a single WhatsApp message exchanged between Showik and Sushant on June 10.
Second, it confirms that Sushant’s sister, Meetu Singh, stayed with him from June 8 to June 12, before leaving two days prior to his death. The report also mentions that Sushant’s former manager Shruti Modi had not visited him since February 2020 due to an injury.
On claims of financial fraud, the CBI found that Rhea only took her Apple laptop and wristwatch, both gifts from Sushant. “There is no evidence of any property being taken dishonestly or without his knowledge,” the report said.
The agency also noted that Sushant had referred to Rhea as “part of the family.” Their shared expenses were managed by his accountant and lawyer under his directions, which the CBI said could not be classified as coercion or deception.
Regarding accusations of threats, the report called them hearsay. It stated, “The only allegation is that Sushant told his family Rhea had threatened to reveal his medical records.” The agency concluded that there was no direct provocation, pressure, or wrongdoing from Rhea’s side.
