"Tum dono pagal ho kya.." abeer started completely baffled.
"Ya humein pagal bana rahe ho?" meher completed thinking about walking away.
Sanyukta frowned, they knew this wouldn't be easy.
"Please trust us" sanyukta requested the both of them, almost pleading.
"But how do you know this even works?" meher
"I am the topper of FITE. I made this machine, of course it works." Randhir said with as much pride as there could be.
Meher was not liking this guy by the minute, he looked like too much of a chauvinist, she was about to retaliate when abeer spoke up.
"Yes so what? Even I am a rockstar and very famous, doesn't mean I can complete beethoven's symphonies or make songs like R.D.Burman saab, if you are a genius doesn't mean you can do anything"
"We have tested the machine" hesistantly sanyukta added "but there are some minor technical issues"
"What issues?" meher asked worried.
"Nothing you should worry about. You just decide and let us know in an hour. We will get everything ready till then. " Randhir answered before sanyukta could speak up and quickly dragged her out of the room.
-------
"You will ruin our entire plan" he shot at her angrily as they reached the library.
"But randhir they ought to know about the risk they are taking na" Sanyukta was very worried by now lying was not part of her plan.
"That is why we are going with them to make sure nothing of that sort happens." Randhir said as sure of himself as always.
"And what about him? What if he follows us?" sanyukta threw her hands up in frustration. Randhir was having none of it, because he thought he was einstein's re-incarnation.
"He cant work this machine without me. Now stop behaving like a scared little girl and lets get ready. We need to leave ASAP before the condition here worsens." Randhir directed a chauvinistic jibe at her knowing this would get her fired up and calm her down and it worked.
--------
"So what did you decide?" sanyukta asked the both of them eagerly.
"I need to talk to you alone." Both of them spoke together, and then glared at the other for stealing their line.
"Thik hai pehle meri biwi se baat karlo, biwi first" abeer winked at meher and walked out, meher was too busy with her thoughts to care.
"I will accept only if you both promise me that if this doesn't work out you will leave him in the past, so that I can come back to a peaceful future."
Randhir and sanyukta looked at each other in confusion, they hadn't evaluated this in their equation.
"Ok" sanyukta replied hesitantly already doubting their decision.
"Aji sunti ho" abeer knocked the door from outside . "baby tumhara ho gaya ho to mai andar aa jao" abeer walked in smiling at having embarressed her in front of strangers he wanted to make the most of this before everything changed.
"I cant wait to get rid of you" she gave him a "if looks could kill kind of stare" while leaving the room, while abeer just smirked at her and replied.
"same here baby"
"I will pay you whatever you want, just mera meri boss se peecha chudwa do, if this doesn't work out can we just leave her in a jungle or something, we have alot of those near our college."
"sure" randhir replied before sanyukta had a chance to get more sceptical about the plan.
------
All the arrangements were made, the date, time and place were set to the time before meher and abeers first meet. They wanted to remove the problem from the root they had said. Randhir and sanyukta started the count-down to start the machine, while meher and abeer stood opposite to each other throwing dirty stares towards one other.
3
"I don't know what I saw in you that first day." Abeer made a face evaluating meher from top to bottom.
2
"I wish I had never met you" meher said putting her hand on her head " bekar mei life ruin karli pyaar karke"
1
The machine started shaking and everything started blurring in the surroundings.
Meher jumped to the opposite side of the machine and held on to abeer's hand closing her eyes as the machine started spinning. Abeer closed his eyes and caught hold of her hand re-assuring her, and taking comfort in her closeness against his claustrophobia, somehow her being there made him feel safe.
Randhir and sanyukta crossed their fingers and looked into each other's eyes comforting each other saying it will be alright.
CHAPTER 2
The four of them landed with a silent bang at the gate of the college meher and abeer studied in, the root of all evil, as they had stated. Colors were flying around everywhere, the faint smell of bhang and different sweets filled the air.The students couldnt be distinguished one from another, everyones faces were smudged with colors, It was the day of 'holi'.
Abeer covered his face with a hoodie while meher covered hers with a dupatta, sanyukta had warned them that no one should see them here while their past selfs were there because it could lead to unknown consequences.
Abeer pointed to randhir his past self and told him that no matter what rd shouldn't let his past self dunk the past meher in the water pool.
"Isi moment se mera shani shuru hua tha" abeer said dramatically making an animated expression.
"How dare you" meher shouted while sanyu made her calm down lest someone hears them. "Shuruwat tumne ki thi. You dumped me into the pool. I want that rectified now" She tried to strangle abeer from a distance but sanyu restrained her.
Just then an auto pulled over and a girl stepped out, shy timid, yet the smile on her face could put sun's shine to shame.
"Wo tum ho" both sandhir asked in union, with their jaws dropped, pointing towards the old meher.
"Is khunkhaar ladki ko dekhke aisa lagta nahi na ke ye kabhi aisi shaant si bhi ho sakti thi" abeer feigned shock.
"Kya karti mai bhi, is jaise namune ko jhelne ke liye mujhe bhi strong hona pada" meher acted like a typical abla nari, but no one bought it. Abeer smirked.
"Tum dono ka ho gaya ho to mai jake kuch karu" rd said exasperated these two were going to make this experiment very tough.
Stepping out of their hiding spot randhir walked into the college and went to old abeer, to distract him so that he doesn't spot meher. In a little while they were all playing holi.
Meher was going towards her hostel room when a guy who was clearly drunk on bhang or whatever it was caught hold of her hand. She tried to wriggle out of his hold but he was too strong.
"Bura na mano holi hai" he smirked as he was about to pull her towards him while meher resisted with all her might.
Even from their hiding spot abeer could see her cringe, she was on the verge of tears. He was almost about to go out of their hiding spot when meher caught hold of his hand and stopped him.
Sanyukta ran to mehers rescue, the guy was bending towards meher, giving her a sly smile and was about to put color on mehers cheek by rubbing his cheek on hers, when sanyu reached them. Removing mehers hand from the guys hand she pushed meher behind her.
"Pehle ladkiyo ki respect karna seekhlo, holi baad mei khelna" and she delivered a tight slap to his cheek which he had extended forward.
Suddenly everyone stopped playing holi and turned to the source of the sound. The guy was about to hit sanyukta when randhir and abeer reached them. Randhir immediately shielded sanyukta, catching the guys collar raised his hand to punch him.
Abeer instinctively stood before meher, shielding her, because the moment his eyes fell on meher who was slightly shivering, he just couldnt help feeling protective towards this helpless girl.
"Apni bhalai chahta hai to abhi yaha se chala ja" randhir said stressing every word and the guy scrambled away looking at the rage in randhirs eyes.
"I could have protected myself" sanyukta said with fake pride as he turned towards her, but internally feeling glad randhir came in the nick of time.
"Yeah right" randhir said sarcastically. "You cant do anything right without me farzi"
"Hey are you ok?" Abeer turned around and asked her, while maintaining a safe distance so as not to scare her further.
So much drama on the first day was too much for meher, this was not how she pictured her first day of college.
"Are you new? Mai tumhe tumhare hostel tak chod deta hun chalo." Concern was etched on his face, she looked so fragile in her scared state, he just wanted to do something to make her feel ok.
"Hmmm" was all she could muster up before silently following him just to be safe from more drunk guys.
Randhir and sanyukta were left alone to watch their retreating backs, they could see the chemistry of mehbeer from the word go, it was beyond them why these two wanted to forget each other and never fall in love. But since they needed these two for their experiment they kept quite and followed the instructions given to them.
Meher and abeer watched their past selves walk together towards the hostel stunned.
"Ye sab tumhare stupid idea ki wajah se hua. Atleast pool mei dunk karte toh we would be fighting, now you've made us friends" she pointed her finger at his chest and scolded him in irritated whispers.
"Agar tum bina koi problem create kiye hostel room tak nahi ja sakti to isme mujhe blame mat karo ok" he huffed mimicking her irritation. " Ek toh tumhe bachaya meine, aur tumhe hostel safely leke ja raha hun upar se taane suno, bhalai ka to sach mei zamana nahi raha"
"Itne bade nautanki ho na tum abeer" she exclaimed frustrated with his antics. "Now what?"
Randhir and sanyukta had reached them by now.
"Now we re-group. Tum logo ko koi hotel pata hai yaha nazdeek mei?. Lets rent a room and think of our next plan of action." Randhir spoke.
"Hotel kyun..we can stay in my house" Abeer offered.
"And what happens when the hostel wall breaks and everyone comes to live in the house? Or someone spots us there? " meher questioned him.
"Meher tum humesha se hi gumnaam types thi but everyone knows me, especially here. Someone is bound to recognise me in a hotel. I even have the keys to my house with me in my wallet. Baad ki baad mei sochenge"
"He is right. His house is the safest bet. We can do something about your past selves hostel situation later." randhir said after giving abeers words a thought.
"I think abeer has a point its safer" sanyukta cringed at agreeing with guys desperate times call for desperate measures she thought'
"Whatever" meher sighed at being outnumbered and followed them to abeers house.
------
The house was a gift from abeers mom on his last birthday, before he was sent off to college so that he was comfortable. But abeer had always loved being around people and thus the house lay empty near the college campus, while abeer and nisaar stayed on campus in the hostel. He hadnt even bothered to appoint guards to the house.
Sneaking in so that no one noticed them, the four of them entered the house.
A smile immediately adorned both meher and abeers face as they remembered all the moments they had spent in this house together- happier times, simpler times.
"Cool place yaar" randhir patted abeers shoulder as abeer beamed with pride.
"It was a gift from my mom"
Randhirs face immediately fell and he retreated away from the group to a silent corner.
"Forgive him,he has mommy issues" Sanyu said trying to lighten the atmoshphere " she didn't treat him right" sanyukta defended randhir and went to him to console him leaving meher and abeer alone.
They went around the house in a daze setting the furniture right.
"My music room" abeer smiled as he stepped into his bedroom and looked at his music intruments.
"Kitne ghanto tak padhai karti thi mai yaha" meher exclaimed to her-self, going into her bedroom remembering her studious ways before abeer.
Neither of them dared to go to the terrace where they had spent many days and nights in each others bliss-full company after they had got together. It held special memories for them, memories which still had the power to break their facade of hatred.
Finally after an hour of walking down memory lane, and showing randhir and sanyukta around the house, they decided the girls would stay in one room while the guys would stay in another.
"Bohot bhuk lagi hai" sanyukta interrupted abeer who was telling them the details of how abeer, meher, nisaar, sasha and sneha had ended up living in this house. They were trying to decide how best to prevent that, since staying together in this house had led to the closeness between meher and abeer.
"These girls i tell you, so delicate" randhir rolled his eyes
"Hey time travel is hard on the stomach. Its not our fault that you guys have the macho-man syndrome." meher chipped in to sanyu's defence
Randhir decided it was futile to argue and got up the next moment, to go out and get some food.
"Get some groceries as well."
"And something to drink too"
"And some clean clothes too"
"Mujhe pizza khana hai"
He heard 10 more order from the three of them before he had even reached the hall. He turned around in a sudden movement, hitting his foot to the ground
"Jo launga chup chap kha lena, tumhara delivery boy nahi hun mai, neither am i ramu kaka, jo mujhe orders de rahe ho.!! " and he left leaving the trio speechless.
As soon as he banged the door shut they started laughing.
"Ye humesha se aisa tha ya recently kuch hua hai iske saath?" Meher asked in between giggles.
"Usko bachpan mei bohot baar gira diya tha, On his head. Poor chap it messed with his head. He thinks he is gods gift to mankind. " sanyukta joined meher in giggling.
Abeer sat silently and stared at the laughing meher, with a smile on his face, it was innocent moments like these when he failed to understand what went wrong with them and why.
------
The guards of the laboratory of FITE were beaten unconscious. All papers and different spare parts of machines lay scrambled on the floor.
He then headed towards their rooms hiding his face so that no one recognises him. But he had no luck in either of their rooms.
Something strikes him.
"Of-course.! The Library.!" He rushes to the library with a evil smirk.
They think they are smarter than me. So obviously they would have hid it in the most unusual spot.
He opened the fattest book of the Spanish section only to have 10-20 sheets of papers with delicate designs and complicated calculations fall down.
"Aha. I have found you at last." He kissed the papers in glee. "Not long before i find you both as well randhir and sanyukta. I hope you are prepared. I am coming. "
----------
Abeer malhotra lay in his hostel bed with a smile adorned on his face remembering the new girls smile as he had dropped her off to her room in the hostel.
"Thank you" was all she had said but such a sweet voice she had that those two words kept ringing in his ears. She would make an amazing singer for his band. Vowing to find out her name the next day he went to sleep.
----------
Meher settled into her hostel room and unpacked her stuff and started studying not wanting to waste any time. All thoughts of the earlier incident forgotten.
But when she closed her eyes to fall asleep, the same incident kept recurring in her nightmares, the guy got closer and closer, and then suddenly there was him he was standing before her, almost shielding her from the bad guy's visions, he turned around, his chocolate brown eyes met her hazel orbs and she relaxed immediately feeling safe, she then fell asleep without any nightmare with a smile to her face.
----------
"Get ready to thank us" sanyukta shouted excited as she and randhir entered the house grinning. Meher and abeer were sitting in two different corners of the room clearly the after-effects of some ridiculous, pointless fight sanyu and rd mentally noted.
It had been a week since they had arrived in the past and all of them were getting to know each other pretty well, and also not to interrupt each others cold wars and fight sessions. They had developed a kind of understanding and bonding between themselves and there were moments when sanyu and rd wanted to put their entire mission aside and just help these two crazy love birds realize how crazy they were for each other. But then they kicked themselves mentally realising their mission was much more important and proceeded according to their plan.
"What did you do?" meher looked almost scared.
"The last time you tried to help, you do remember what happened right?"
----
2 days back
"Meher it doesn't work that way, you can get a 100% on your academics but still you need extra curriculars. No company these days gives jobs to nerds. They want all rounders, who are good in different fields" a frustrated sanyukta tried to reason with meher as they sat in the college canteen. Sanyukta had gotten overtly protective about meher since the holi incident and came by to check up on her once in a day.
"But I AM all rounder" meher spoke matter of factedly. "I am good at all my subjects"
Sanyukta sighed in frustration hitting her head with her hand.
"Sanyu" meher looked at her helplessly "You know i can't waste my time in these stupid extra curriculars. I will lose my focus and time"
"Then do something less time consuming. Maybe music? There are so many good musicians in your college. Like Abeer"
Mehers face lit up.
"He IS good" she spoke involuntarily as she recalled walking upon their bands practice sessions. His voice and music had mesmerised her. She had just stood there with her eyes closed smiling as she let his music transport her to a better place. A happier place without any worries.
'Uh oh' Sanyukta thought as she realised what she had done.
-----
Randhir stepped into the hostel dorm finding abeer talking on the phone. After the holi party a silent effortless friendship was formed between them, when randhir had to get away from the house and the madness of his fights with sanyu and the ridiculous fights meher and abeer had he escaped to the college hostel to hang out with abeer.
Abeer slammed the phone on to the bed in frustration as randhir took his place beside abeer.
"Tumhe kya hua?" randhir asked amused because it was so unusual to see abeer upset.
"The only time he calls is to curse me" abeer sighed.
"Atleast he calls for something" randhir said being transported to some other time but brought himself back. "what is it this time?"
"What else? My exam scores.! I don't get how a bunch of numbers decide my worth" abeer made a face at the absurdity of the idea.
"I can help you" rd offered.
"Thanks bro but i don't think engineering and business have much in common except for money."
"Yes, unfortunately I am not that good with business economics stuff like meher..." rd bit his tongue realising his blunder.
"Hey, that could work" abeer said smiling. "And maybe i could convince her to join my band"
-----------
"Hey it is not our fault that the past you keeps finding reasons to get close to each other." randhir spoke defensively as he and sanyukta came out of the reverie of what had happened 2 days back. They really had screwed up big time. Though he would never admit it.
"Ask us what we did. Ask us what we did" sanyukta was almost jumping up and down in excitement.
"We took a job at the college, using our FITE credentials" randhir spoke before sanyukta had more chance to get hyper.
"Hello, you aren't even engineers yet in this time. Is technology so critical here that they need engineers from the future to fix it? And I am sure the only business knowledge you have is buying mechanical parts from a vendor. And thats not something they really teach at our college." meher mocked. She loved teasing randhir, who unlike abeer didn't react back but pouted and got all worked up. She and sanyukta loved irritating him, it had become their favourite pass time.
"We might have tweaked our engineering degrees a bit" sanyukta said with a smug smile.
And the girls burst out laughing.
"What exactly are you planning to do in our college?" abeer asked a little more worried. They couldn't afford past them getting any more closer than they already were.
"Basically we took up the job for maintainence of all the technical things in the college. But actually we are going to make sure you two keep your hands off of each other." Randhir gave meher a smirk and she blushed.
"And secretly we are going to do maintenance of your hostel and make sure that damned hostel wall which started all this" sanyukta waved her hands at both meher and abeer "doesn't fall. We can't lose our house to past you" sanyukta winked at abeer and he smiled back finally a little at ease. What was the worst that could happen?
---------
Just as abeer asked that question the universe replied back to him saying THIS. As his past self ran towards mehers past self.
"Hi there" abeer smiled as he ran to catch up to meher who was going towards the library.
"Hi" meher smiled back. Abeer had gone out of his way to make sure she was comfortable in the college. She hadn't seen the guy who had teased her on holi since that day, and she had a feeling abeer had something to with it. He made her feel safe even though she barely even knew him.
"Humesha library, bore nahi ho jati yaar tum." Abeer laughed at his own joke.
"Do you get bored with your music and guitar?" meher replied defensively.
"Fair point, Well made." Abeer gave her a thumbs up before continuing. "So what say we exchange some of talents? You can teach me to be a book worm, and I can maybe help you get some music in your soul." His eyes twinkled and sparkled as he talked about music. She could clearly see how much it meant to him.
"And what do I get out of this? Apart from music in my soul that is? " Meher giggled quoting him.
Abeer looked appalled.
"When you have music you have everything." Placing his hand on his heart"trust me, music will become your best friend and then you will thank me for the gift of your life."
"You make a good case mr.malhotra" she extended her hand forward. "Deal."
He caught her hand with his own.
"Done deal" he said holding on to her hand a little longer than he should've, while she just silently admired how kicked he got about music.
Does it really make you that happy? Forget all your worries? She surely could use that. Meher smiled looking forward to this 'exchange of talents'
It was two weeks since their deal was struck. Meher and Abeers study and music sessions were going on in full form with neither sandhir nor future mehbeer having any idea how to set it right. Things just kept on getting worse as their sessions kept getting longer and longer. Past meher and abeer were almost friends rushing towards becoming best friends. They had their food together along with saasha and nisaar, sat together in all their classes. Meher made notes for him while abeer gave her new chords to practice on. But today was the last straw. RD and Sanyu were beyond furious.
Meher and Abeer sat in two chairs having their lips sealed as they got lectured by sanyukta and randhir. They didn't dare to point out that this whole mess was sandhir's doing to begin with fearing more bashing.
"Care to explain your past selves?"
Randhir scolded.
"Guys don't your past selves have even a little restraint?" Sanyukta added.
"Do you have any idea how difficult your past selves are making our job?"randhir chipped in.
"But..." abeer started.
"DONT" sanyukta intervened.
"Pehle apni kartoote toh dekh lo. Then justify yourselves and your past selves"randhir said throwing them a dirty stare before connecting the handy cam to the tv and playing the stuff they had recorded.
-----
Sanyukta had been curating the hostel campus and trying her best to figure out how to prevent the collapse. She realised a patch work wasn't the best idea and re-constructing it would mean the students had to move out which would lead to their earlier issue of past meher and abeer having to live together. Trying to figure out what to do when she heard abeer's voice coming from the music room he was singing, she had followed the voice to see him in live action only to find meher sitting on the steps in the room with her elbows rested on her thighs and her hands cupping her face as she listened to abeer with a smile to her face.
This is bad.
This is very very bad.
'We need to do damage control. But for that everyone needs to know how much this thing has escalated and see it with their own eyes. ' she thought.
Removing the handy cam she was using to take details about the hostel campus to work on solutions for it. She started recording meher and abeers session.
tanha mai guma galiyaan sheher
aaya khayal tera aayi na tu nazar
---
Jis din tu mujhe mil jayegi
Tham jayegi meri awaargi.
----
Meher laughed. Abeer stopped singing and playing the guitar flabbergasted.
"What is wrong? This is one of my best songs."
"It sounds...umm...made up? A song touches the soul when it is real and has real feelings." Meher spoke though she had no knowledge about music she knew how to recognise when someone was being true to their heart, she didn't know music but she knew how to appreciate good music.
"Hey, I can be searching for that special someone with this song." Abeer defended his favourite song.
"Well are you?" meher smirked knowing his answer before he nodded a no.
"I liked that song better which you were singing with your band that day. It had such a nice feel to it. Felt real." Meher smiled as she re-collected how the song had transported her to her happy place'
Abeer instantly knew which song she was talking about. He had seen her listening to their practice session that day. The smile she had on her face while she closed her eyes and listened to them was worth a million bucks. It was one of the things that had given him the strength to ask her to teach him, realising that he would be giving her something equally special in return. Holding his guitar close to his heart, abeer started singing his most special song.
Aankhon mein sapne liye,
Ghar se hum chal to diye,
Jaane ye raahein ab le jayengi kahan,
Abeer started smiling a sad smile as he started circling around meher strumming his guitar strings, while the lyrics just flowed out of his lips like he was breathing. It felt that natural.
Mitti ki khuhsbu aaye,
Palkon pe aason laye,
Palkon pe reh jaayega yaadon ka jahaan,
Manzil nayi hai, anjaana hai kaarva,
Chalna akele hai yahaan,
This song for some reason bought out all of meher's bottled up emotions to the fore-front. She remembered the night her father had left them. How her mother had cried that whole night. She remembered how her bua had been the wall that had held them together those initial few weeks. She remembered tunnu waking up screaming at night having nightmares and crying about how the bullies at school teased him about his father leaving them. Day in day out she had heard her mother beg her father to come back but he never bothered. That was when she had realised no one in this world was your own. If you had to survive, you have to learn to fend for yourself, no matter how hard or lonely the path gets.
Tanha Dil, Tanha Safar
Dhunde tujhe, phir kyun nazar,
Tanha Dil, Tanha Safar
Dhunde tujhe, phir kyun nazar,
Tanha dil...
He now sat beside her handing her the guitar, wrapping her fingers around it on the right strings. He trailed his left hand and lined it with her left hand. While his right hand travelled around her and lined itself against her right hand, catching hold of both her hands he started moving her fingers across the guitar strings.
As abeer pulled away from her giving her the lead, meher caught hold of the guitar and started singing mimicking abeer's motions on the guitar taking inspiration from everything that had ever hurt her, everything her father had done, and then remembering his sweet voice as he sang this song which kind of soothed all those wounds.
Kitni barsaate aayi,
Kitni saugate laayi,
Kaanon mein phir bhi goonjein teri hi sada,
Vaade kiye the apna hoga aashiyaan,
Vaadon ka jaane hoga kya,
Tanha Dil, Tanha Safar,
Dhunde Tujhe, Phir kyun nazar,
Tanha Dil, Tanha Safar,
Dhunde Tujhe, Phir kyun nazar,
Abeer sat mesmerised for a while before joining her in completing the chorus.
Aankhon mein sapne liye,
Ghar se hum chal to diye,
Jaane ye raahein ab le jayengi kahan,
Mitti ki khuhsbu aaye,
Palkon pe aason laye,
Palkon pe reh jaayega yaadon ka jahaan,
Manzil nayi hai, anjaana hai kaarva,
Chalna akele hai yahaan,
Tanha Dil, Tanha Safar
Dhunde tujhe, phir kyun nazar,
Tanha Dil, Tanha Safar
Dhunde tujhe, phir kyun nazar,
Tanha dil...
Tanha Dil..
.Saasha and nisaar hadn't liked the song very much. They felt it was too depressing and were even offended a bit considering they were his best friends and he was still singing that he was a tanha dil', they didn't get the place where he was coming from, the feelings he was portraying in the song, but somehow as mehers eyes welled up with silent unshed tears as they finished the song abeer realised she got it. And suddenly he didn't feel like he was so lonely in these feelings after all. In that moment they crossed the threshold from friends to best friends. Two people connected by different pain's which ached the same. They understood each other at a level no one else could. The mutual dissapointment and pain their fathers had caused them was the stepping stone of their bonding and understanding.
------
Meher and abeer of the future sat dumb struck as they say the video play its last few captured moments where past abeer wiped away the silent tear off of mehers face and she gave him a smile. The kind of smile you give someone who knows all your secrets, the kind of smile you give to a person you trust will never give away your weak moments.
"That is not even the best part. You haven't seen the study session i recorded yet." Randhir said in a serious tone. "There is more."
"And we need to figure out how the hell we are going to get the two of you away from each other RIGHT NOW.! Or there will be issues. We have stayed here for too long already. We can't stay in the past longer lest something goes wrong." Sanyukta added agreeing with randhir.
Abeer paused the video not wanting to see more, They were heading down the same path to heart break for the second time and he couldn't watch anymore. And he knew the same thoughts were going through meher's mind because right at that instant she hastily wiped the corner of her eyes and ran out of the room muttering something about needing fresh air.
Sanyukta and randhir looked at him confused not knowing what to do next.
Abeer followed meher silently without uttering a word to the duo. They understood without any explanations.
-----
"Meher" he called out to her softly as he walked towards the terrace through the stair case door.
He knew when meher couldn't be found anywhere this was where she would be. This terrace was where they always patched up after fights, where they had their most special of dates, their impromptu dances in the rain, their midnight hot chocolate conversations and the place which had seen them going through every heart break. Every memory seemed as fresh as ever, and hit him with double the force as he stepped into the place which had seen their love blossom.
"Meher" He called again his voice a little broken than before, he almost choked because of the memories. There was a reason they had avoided this place even though it had been 3 weeks since they were here.
Meher sat on the terrace parapet wall staring into the great black sky and the majestic charm it held. The lights of the houses all around sparkled at her like stars on earth. Here in the open she let her tears flow freely as she re-called her decision to come back to the past.
The more days passed by the more it seemed like heart break was a destination which was inevitable for them. They'd had to go through it again, in the past, in the future, it followed them everywhere they went.
Abeer spotted her and went to her occupying his seat beside her. They'd spent hours here in each other's arms in comfortable silence.
He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her towards him, holding her close. With one hand he wiped her tears while he held on to her with the other.
"It will be alright meher. I will not let our hearts break another time. I promise."
There was a sincerity in his voice that broke her further. He had proposed to her with almost the same words. Burying her face into his chest she sobbed clutching his t-shirt for support.
She sobbed for the broken hearts.
She sobbed for their incomplete love story.
She sobbed for the history that was surely going to repeat itself.
And she sobbed because despite everything,
She found comfort and solace only in him,
And wanted to hide in his arms forever.
-------
Sanyukta and randhir watched meher and abeer from the entrance to the terrace with similar worried expressions on their faces. They knew they couldn't wait for the result of plan A. They had to proceed to plan B. Time was running out.
*Scroll down to the next post*
"Randhir we can't do that without knowing what will be the consequences." Sanyukta said worrying about Plan B as she held on to randhir's hand to stop her own from shaking.
"Sanyu we have only 1 week left we can't wait any longer." Randhir said trying to remain calm for sanyu's sake. Plan A was supposed to guide them on how to go forward with Plan B but now with the complicated situation MehBeer had gotten themselves and everyone in, they had to go in blind. There was no other option or time left for any other plan.
"Then what about them?" Sanyukta asked gesturing to meher and abeer who were still sitting holding on to each other. Abeer was getting off the parapet wall and then giving his hand to meher, as he supported her while bringing her down. But they didn't move as they got to the floor, they continued staring into each other's eyes holding on to each other. Sanyukta's heart broke seeing them, she wanted to help them so bad, but this was more important.
"We can't help them until they want to help themselves." Randhir said giving a final helpless glance towards meher and abeer before dragging sanyukta away.
------
Lafzon se jo tha pareh
Khaali pann ko jo bhare
Kuch toh tha tere mere darmiyaan
There was so much they wanted to say to each other, so many wounds that had to be bandaged and healed. But words abandoned them.
Rishte ko kya modh doon
Naata yeh ab todh doon
Ya phir yunhi chodh doon, darmiyaan
And so they stood still, staring into each other's eyes searching for answers they couldn't find within themselves.
Benaam rishta woh
Benaam rishta woh, bechain karta jo
Ho na sake jo beyaan, darmiyaan
Kuch toh tha tere mere darmiyaan
Rain started pouring to fill the silences between them with its melody. Meher started to run towards the shelter to take cover but abeer held on to her hand.
Aankhon mein tere saaye
Chahoon toh ho na paaye
Yaadon se teri faasla haye
"For old time's sake?" he asked with a smile trying to mask the pain his eyes were communicating to her as he turned her around.
Jaake bhi tu na jaaye
Thehri tu dil mein haye
Hasrat si banke kyun bhala
She turned around with an expression he hadn't seen in the longest time. Of adoration, love, empathy, like she knew what he was feeling, like she was feeling it too. And in that moment abeer realised these feelings were there all along. He just hadn't looked deep enough, she was always there.
Kyun yaad karta hoon
Mitt ta hoon banta hoon
Mujhko to laaye yeh kahan
All the memories of their rain dances on this terrace accompanied abeer as he pulled at her waist bringing her closer and started swaying the both of them around to the silent music the rain was playing.
He twirled her around and then brought her closer to him. Closer then she was before. As their bodies clashed, he held onto her with all his might. Not wanting to ever let her go.
Chalte thay jinpe hum tum
Raaste woh saare hai ghum
Ab dhoondhu kaise manzilein
They had come here to erase every path of them coming towards each other, for forgetting each other. But now as he dipped her and bent forwards towards her, all he could think of was of ways to make it alright. He wanted to erase all her pain and replace it with happiness.
Yeh raatein hain jaise maatam
Aaate hain din bhi gumsum
Roothi hain saari mehfilein.
With every inch abeer came closer meher's heart broke with a new flashback of an old memory.
She remembered how she waited for him at the door whole night when he had left her in the middle of the night in anger.
She remembered him signing the divorce papers and throwing them at her face.
She remembered how he had walked away leaving her standing alone in rain.
She remembered crying for days wishing him back.
She remembered not breathing properly for weeks.
And lastly with him only inches away she remembered the most painful of them all, she remembered how he had broken her beyond repair. How she was never the same after him. He had taken her smile, love and happiness with him leaving behind only a shell of a person who broke a little further on the inside every day but kept faking strength for her family hoping it became her truth. But it never did.
Itna sataayo na, yun yaad aao na
Bann jaaye aansu bhi zubaan
As his lips lightly touched hers she came out of her trance and immediately straightened herself. Even with rain drops drenching her from head to toe abeer could see the traces of tears from her eyes.
She loved him more than herself, a love she was never able to forget. But the pain he had caused her was something she wouldn't be able to go through another time.
"Too. Much. Pain" were the only broken words she was able to speak up before running away from him, from the terrace filled with their memories and the pain being with him bought.
He watched standing alone in rain as she went away from him and disappeared into the house, leaving him standing alone in the rain. Just like he had left her.
-------
"Randhir please, we can't leave them just like this. Let us do something for them" sanyu begged rd her heart not wanting to leave meher and abeer at this stage where they both were so close to each other yet so far away. Abeer was breaking down on the terrace while meher had locked herself up in her room.
"Sanyu you know we don't have time for this. Our flight for delhi leaves in 3 hours. We are more needed there." Randhir tried to reason.
"Please mere liye." She requested. He couldn't say no to that, everything he was doing was for her.
------
"We are leaving in a few hours for some urgent work in delhi. We need to talk to you now."
They sent the same text to both meher and abeer. Within 10 minutes both of them were in the hall.
"What? Why? How? Where?"
Both of them spoke in unison without letting sanyu or rd speak.
"We are need to be in F.I.T.E right now, to right some wrongs" randhir said with a emotionless expression with his eyes only on sanyukta, she looked like she would break down any moment. He knew the thought of going to delhi and facing what they had done 10 years back was killing her on the inside.
"But what about us?" meher asked.
"We will be back in a week" randhir said with the same blank expression still eyeing sanyu with caution.
"But till we are back" sanyu spoke keeping her voice even, she needed meher and abeer to understand "We need you both to decide what you want, if you want to stay together or not. Only once you take your decision and we act on it can we leave. And we leave as soon as we are back. So please think about it this one week. Like really think about it" sanyu pleaded hoping they took the right decision. She wanted this time travel to atleast set one love story right.
"And we want you to start by seeing the rest of the recording" randhir continued "This time though instead of thinking of your past think of the present they are making, how happy they are, you can be that happy if you give yourselves a chance" he finished.
Meher and abeer were in too much shock to even react or protest after all the information they had just received. RD and sanyu pushed them on to the couch and hit play on the paused recording which RD had got.
------
*Recording*
Randhir was in the library trying to see if this good for nothing college had any good book on engineering structures he could borrow for the construction of the hostel wall. But to no benefit. Just then he heard abeer's voice, randhir smiled thinking atleast he could hang out with abeer for a bit instead of going back to that mad house.
He had only started moving out of the books rack when he heard meher's laughter. Randhir stopped in his place as he eyed meher and beside each other wrestling over a book which meher was trying to open and abeer was trying to close. Their hands were on each other's as they tried to claw away the other's hand from the book and their eyes never left each other. Randhir opened his handy cam and started recording.
"Abeer you do realise that study session needs to contain some amount of studying right?" She tried to look angry but came off as cute and adorable instead.
"SOME being the operational word there." Abeer frowned. "You and I have very different definitions of SOME Miss. Purohit we have been at this since 3 hours. A short break won't do your brain cells any permanent damage.! " he exclaimed
"It is the teacher's definition of SOME that counts" meher said with a smug expression.
"Meher yaar" Abeer pouted as he pulled the book over from under her hands and put the book over his head frustrated cursing the moment he had asked her to teach him. Why couldn't he have just asked her to join his band.
"You are such a kid" meher pulled at his cheeks.
"Oh yeah?" he cocked his eye brow shoving the book aside on to the table and pushing his chair backwards in a swift motion. "Can a kid do this?" he asked resting his weight on one knee as he knelt before her, his hand out stretched towards her.
Her face was a mixture of alarmed and confused.
"Every good musician needs to know how to dance to their tunes mi'lady. Please give me the honor of this dance" before she had a chance to react he took her hand in his pulled her from her seat as he started humming.
Jab mila tu ru turu tu ru turu tu...
He held on to her fingers with his own, leading her as she followed him.
Na thi kami na justuju ru turu tu..
Her left foot went backward with his right foot coming forward. Her right foot came forward with his left foot going backwards.
Aur aadhe aadhe pal hue phir poore yun
And then they came back to their original position in perfect sync like they were doing this all their life.
Jab mila tu ru turu tu ru turu tu
Extending his leg diagonally he pulled her to the opposite end as he took her place and she took his in an effortless twirl as a naughty smile engulfed his lips.
He was trying so hard to make her smile yet he could see that she still was shaken with the whole "tanha dil" experience the song had hit her harder then he'd expected and she was going back into a shell. Something which abeer didn't want. So he continued with the song something he couldnt tell her through words.
Tu aadhe se dil ko, jo layegi bhi toh
Main sau khwaishon se hi bhar doonga woh
Twirling her around he finally pulled her into him.
She crossed her hands as he caught hold of her left hand with his right and right with his left. They continued moving to him humming.
Kare na yakeen toh, abhi ke abi tu
Toh aake aazma
As they parted and came back to their original positions holding palms. He took a step backward and she followed his lead taking a step back and then taking two steps forward they came closer to each other, only the palms they held in between them.
Jab mila tu ru turu tu ru turu tu...
Na thi kami na justuju ru turu tu..
Taking hold of her waist with one hand and supporting her head with another he gave her a final dip while she held on to him for dear life.
Aur aadhe aadhe pal hue phir poore yun
Jab mila tu ru turu tu ru turu tu
Abeer was all smiles as he completed the song and pulled her up to a standing position beside him and meher couldn't keep a check on her happiness anymore as her sparkling eyes gave it all away while her erratic heartbeat only added to it.
"Would you say no to a dance again?" abeer asked with a cheeky grin as he pat himself on the back saying "mission sucessfull".
"I will say yes only if I get to lead next time" meher winked at him. "and if you finish this chapter of business economics" she laughed as abeer groaned.
"There is no distracting you" he said grumpily taking his place on the study table as she re-opened their books.
*end of recording*
-----
"I wish the old scars could be erased." They both thought in unison.
"I wish i could be with that smiling meher who had a spark in her eyes" abeer wished to himself.
"I wish i could be with that abeer who could always make me smile" meher wishfully told herself.
"WISH GRANTED." Destiny whispered to them as the hostel wall broke down and sanyukta, randhir parted for delhi with hugs, tears, best wishes and promises of making everything alright.

"Jis din tu mujhe mil jayegi" abeer hummed as he walked beside meher on the way to her hostel. It had become their daily routine now him coming to pick her up from hostel and dropping her back.
Meher giggled "kab chodoge tum wo gaana? It won't work on me"
"Hum honge kamiyaab ek din" abeer said in a stern voice as if he were talking about winning a world war, which only made meher giggle even more.
"Chalo lets make a deal. Jis din tumhe aisi ladki mil gayi jo tumhari awargi khatam karde, tab aake mere saamne ye gaana gaana. Jis din is gaane mei wo feel aa jayegi, mai ise pasand karne lagungi" she says bringing her hand forward for a handshake.
Abeer promptly catches it with his own grinning.
"Always a pleasure doing business with you miss purohit." He bows in front of her as she hits his arm.
"Abeer. Nautanki thoda kam kiya karo" with this she bids him goodbye just like any other day only thing was it was not any other normal day.
"Bye bye mam" he winks at her walking backwards his eyes still on her watching as she gets irritated on the mam' reference.
------
Sanyukta and randhir reached the airport in a numb haze. Their fingers were entwined while sanyukta's head was almost resting on randhir's chest as they moved towards check in. He supported most of her weight pulling her forward as her steps had become heavy and weren't moving ahead by themselves. Sanyukta kept reducing her pace by the minute, making her steps smaller and smaller dreading what lay ahead for them in delhi. Eventually randhir had to drag her to the check in counter to make sure they didnt miss their flight. They made it in the last moment.
Sanyukta curled up in her seat clinging to randhir for dear life with one hand and clutching the two rings she always wore in her chain with the other. The flight ascended into the sky and started towards its destination while sanyu closed her eyes and hid herself in randhir's strong hold.
------
A loud crashing sound wakes abeer and practically everyone in the hostel up.
"Nisaar yaar ye kya ajeeb music baja raha hai itni raat ko" abeer rubs his eyes trying to assess where the sound was coming from only to realise nisaar was still asleep.
Shaking nisaar out of his slumber both abeer and nisaar head out to find out what was wrong.
All the guys in the hostel dorm could be seen running around. Finally abeer managed to catch hold of them to ask what was wrong. What he heard though made him lose his senses.
"The girls hostel walls have collapsed. We have been asked to evacuate immediately because this building can collapse anytime"
"Meher" he whispered as realisation dawned upon him, before running off towards the girls hostel with nisaar closely following him.
As abeer is about to rush into the collapsed building realising meher isn't among the girls who escaped the collapse nisaar holds him back.
"Abeer pagal ho gaya hai kya bhai. Building gir chuki hai, jo bhi bacha hai kabhi bhi gir sakta hai. Tujhe kuch ho sakta hai" Nisaar speaks petrified at the havoc that the collapse had created which was visible in the surviving girls scared faces. He quickly locates sasha in a corner relieved that she is safe.
"Agar mai nahi gaya toh meher ko kuch ho sakta hai nisaar, aur mere hote hue mai use kuch nahi hone dunga" abeer says as he wriggles out of nisaars grip and rushes into the collapsed building to find meher.
------
*Far away in delhi at that exact moment.*
"Randhir singh shekhawat you male chauvinistic pig" sanyukta screamed at the top of her lungs as she realised that randhir had tweaked her experiment with his own egoistic solution which had ruined her research and the results she wanted to find.
Randhir entered the mechanical lab with a smirk.
"You called honey" he winked at her as he squeezed her waist pulling her closer to him sideways and planting a kiss on her cheek.
"You are such an insufferable know it all who doesnt know anything. let alone knowing it all" she stomped her foot in frustration as her last attempt to salvage the experiment failed. "who asked you to change my formulas" she shot at him releasing herself from his hold.
" Well despite being rank no 300 you are my would be wife sweet heart and I couldnt let you spoil my name with such a silly experiment. so i increased its efficiency by 200%" he took a dramatic bow in front of her and inverted his imaginary hat.
"You idiot!!!" sanyukta shouted animatedly trying to strangle him "It was supposed to be inefficient. I was trying to see how the system worked in adverse conditions" she huffed in frustration.
"Oh" randhir uttered not having anything to say for once.
"Who is trying to kill whom today?" aditya asks as he entered smiling.
Sanyukta diverted her gaze to see who had interrupted them ready to fire when she saw aditya and her gaze softened as a smile spread through her lips.
Aditya khurana was not the best looking guy or the most charming guy you would meet. He was of average build. He was just the right amount of everything, enough but not more. Most girls wouldn't give him a second glance as he passed them on the street. He was ordinary' by their standards. But for sanyukta he was her adi' her best friend since childhood, who could always make her smile. He was the only guy in her life who didn't treat her like a fragile girl incapable of doing anything, instead believed that she could capture the moon if only she set her mind to it.
"He ruined my experiment" sanyukta whined to aditya's pointing towards randhir like a school kid complaining to their teaching about an obnoxious boy.
Randhir had by now left her side, grabbing aditya's hand for a handshake he pulled adi in for a hug.
"Adi man.! So good to see you back" randhir gave adi a huge smile as they parted.
Adi had won him over as well with his magic, sanyu's heart melted for a second seeing her best friend and her boy friend hug. But it only lasted a second as randhir continued "You're best friend has been driving me nuts."
"Take your seats in the court of law." Adi gestures randhir and sanyukta to take two seats as he grins turning to face an invisible jury sensing sanyu on the verge of starting round 2 of her rant about rd and stopping her midway "Ye court saare gavaho aur sabooto ko madde nazar rakhte hue is nateeje par pahucha hai ke aap dono ko jald se jald shaadi karleni chahiye, taki aap dono ek dusre ka murder nahi kar paye" he said in the most serious baritone.
"ADI" randhir screamed annoyed at adi for ruining the surprise while adi only shrugged in response.
"What?" sanyukta demanded. Randhir kept giving adi death glares to cut it already but when did adi ever listen.
"Sorry RD. If i leave it to you two, I won't be able to see my best friend's marriage even at the age of 60. Can't take that risk now can I" adi winked at a blushing sanyukta before removing two boxes of rings from his pocket.
Adi cocked his eye brow eyeing them to get it over with.
"Dude you picked out our rings. At least let us propose each other by ourselves" randhir said folding his hands in a mock pleading gesture.
"Yes. Ok." Adi said scratching his beard making it appear like he was deep in thought "The court can grant you that much." He speaks finally satisfied with his decision.
"But why did you get two rings? The proposal needs only one?" randhir asks grinning knowing very well the answer would get a real fun reaction out of sanyu.
"Because I didn't want you both starting the whole boys v/s girls thing over you giving her a ring, so I thought better make it a equal thing and get you both rings so you both can propose to each other." And adi and randhir burst out laughing while sanyukta busied herself in throwing whatever she could find including nuts and bolts at them.
"Boys are such jerks" she threw her hands up in the air in frustration as she walked out of the lab.
---------
Abeer found an unconscious meher below a rubble of fallen concrete. Not caring about all the wounds he had gotten on the way to her he picked her up in his arms. Hiding her head in his strong embrace and got her out to safety.
---------
"Randhir hum yaha aa toh gaye hai, but where will we stay?" sanyukta asks randhir who was still holding on to her hand as they reach roorkie.
He removed a house key and placed it in her hand before continuing.
"Well" randhir contemplates how best to break it to sanyu without breaking her heart but realizes there was no easy way to put it he let it all out at once without letting the pain stab his heart "I bought a house for us, so that I could propose to you in the house that we would spend the rest of our lives in. But we never got a chance to step into it."
Sanyukta looked on the verge of a nervous breakdown. She knew randhir had sacrificed a lot for her, because she was not ready to get married after what happened, but he never let on the depth of his pain and she was too obsessed with making right what went wrong that day to bother asking him.
"RD" she says his name in reverence as she pulls him in for a hug crying into his holding on to him for support.
"It is alright" he strokes her back trying to calm her down. "The good news is I never sold the house in case you ever were over that day. So we have a place to live in" he beamed at her wiping away her tears masking his pain yet again to make her feel better. He had wanted their first memory in this house to be of him proposing her, a wish that never became reality. Brushing his thoughts aside, RD covered his face and sanyu's and they both headed towards the house which would have been their home.
----------
"Ahhh" meher screams from her room waking abeer up and he rushes to her. Her screams only get louder and louder.
"kya hua meher?" he asks trying to re-focus his eyes to the light, assessing her from top to bottom to see if she was hurt only to realise she was bleeding from her leg and her left hand was badly bleeding well. There was blood coming from her forehead. Everywhere he looked he saw a new wound that was emptying the blood from her body and spilling it outside.
"ye kaise hua?" he asks frantic while pulling drawers open for the first aid kit and finally locating it in the dressing table drawer.
Abeer is about to tear open her salwar when her shaking hand stops him . Seriously she wanted to do this now. He wanted to scream at her.
"meher baby" he speaks to her softly like he was addressing an actual baby instead " tum meri patni thi, dil se aaj bhi meri patni hi ho, why the hell are you being shy now of all times?"
She pulls her hand away before she has to be told in sterner ways and lets abeer dress her wounds up. And silently takes the pain killer he gives her.
"Mujhe nahi pata kya hua abeer. Mai so rahi thi, and suddenly, suddenly," she speaks with difficulty between pangs of pain "it felt like the whole building or the world collapsed on me" as the pain subsided a little with the pain killers kicking in, her mind started working over time and making her nervous. What had happened? And how?
He sits beside her bed holding onto her ok, unhurt hand trying to put her to sleep so that her pain ends for a bit.
"Tum bed par baith sakte ho you know." She tries to smile for his sake, knowing how scared he was seeing her like this. Not being able to protect her from something he had no clue about. "We've done a lot more on the bed. I am sure sitting beside me would pale in...ahhh"
"Shhh" he places a finger on her lips as he settles on the bed beside her. "Let me do the talking"
"tanha mai ghuma galiyan sheher" he starts humming and a peaceful smile crosses meher's lips as she smiles through the pain.
"Past wali meher ka mujhe nahi pata, par mujhe humesha ye tumhara sabse genuine gana lagta tha, my favourite." She smiled a bit more bracing the pain that came with the effort.
He shut her eyes with his palm, while she held on to his hand for strength against the pain and he kept on humming "jis din tu mujhe mil jayegee...tham jayegee meri awargi"

"Sanyu, today is the day. It is either this or that. We need to decide" randhir said as he shook sanyukta out of her reverie.
"But RD..." sanyukta was interrupted by the ringing of randhir's phone.
"Haan abeer..."
"Did you take care of..." he was cut off.
"Then what did you do?" abeer's answer made RD even more tense than he already was.
"There is more?" RD asked in shock.
"WHATTT?" and he went pale disconnecting the call.
"It is happening." was all the answer he could give to sanyu's questioning eyes.
"Oh no" sanyu gasped as she shrunk to the floor.
--------
Abeer stood pressing his ear against the storage room door. Meher was slouched beside him on the floor. He could assess how much pain she was in and just how hard she was trying to keep it from him so that he doesn't worry further. What Meher didn't know was Abeer had a lot of such mysterious injuries himself which he covered smartly with his hoodie T-shirt and his bandana to shield her from further worry. But pain wasn't the main issue right now, the issue was the noises that could be heard from outside of nisaar, saasha and of themselves.
The Girl's hostel wall had finally fallen and now things were going at a much more higher pace than they were ready to manage. Abeer peaked a look outside the storage room to find out what was happening.
"Nahi" meher said shyly as she blushed catching hold of abeer's hand which was pushing up her salwar.
Abeer in the storage room turned towards his meher cocking up an eye-brow "Like past like future"
The past abeer though took a hand-kerchief and tied it around his eyes.
"Meher koi doctor nahi hai. Please mujhe dressing karne do" he pleaded "Mai ankho ko cover kar leta hun. Tum mujhe guide karna"
Meher's eyes moistened at his sincerity before she muttered a hmmm. She held his hand and helped him pull her salwar up. Stopping at the place where she was hurt she handed him the bandage and helped him tie it around the wound.
As future abeer looked through the creek in the storage room door his eyes welled up.
"Meher mujhe abeer ki ankho mei wahi dikhta hai jo meri ankho mei hua karta tha. Kya Kami reh gayi meher humare pyaar mei?"Meher closed her eyes and leaned further into the storage room door. If it was the pain of the un-explained injuries or the pain of something deeper he didn't know.
" Nahi abeer, humare pyaar mei kami nahi thi. Humara pyaar itna zyada tha ke hum dono nahi sambhal paye." meher started finally giving up on keeping the secret she had been carrying since 8 years.
"Meher...please" he begged her kneeling down beside her. For years he wanted answers from her but now when she was about to tell him he wasn't sure if had the strength to hear them.
But now that she had started she needed to let it all out.
"Groove channel was started with a seed investment of 2.5 crores." Meher spoke matter-of-factedly. Abeer gasped.
"Satish sahni ko music channel kholna tha aur mujhe tumhe rockstar banana tha" her eyes had the same pride in them which she always had when she talked about how talented he was.
Abeer didn't understand what was happening. The entire world he had built for himself on his hatred for meher was crumbling to dust with her words.
"Toh phir tum wapis kyun aayi?"
"Kyunki company abhi bhi meri hai.jab company losses mei ja rahi thi sahni roped me back in. " she explained.
"Maine divorce papers ke saath groove channel ke investment ke papers bhi sign kiye the. Tumne mujhpe trust nahi kiya abeer lekin mujhe humesha se tumhare talent par yakeen tha. Aur mai tumhe jeetta hua dekhna chahti thi "Even after the way he had treated her she gave up her everything including her self respect for his career. Abeer didn't know if what he was feeling at this moment overwhelming hatred for himself or unconditional love for her.
"Meher tell me you didnt" Abeer hid his face in his knees curling up into a ball trying to hide from her answer which he knew even before she said it.
"Haan Abeer. Mei tumhare papa se tumhare liye paise lene gayi thi abeer. Mai tumhe har din haarta hua nahi dekh sakti thi" tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Lekin dad ne toh bola tha..." abeer couldnt even complete the sentence. How could he have ever believed that about his meher.
"Ke maine tumse tumhare paise ke liye shadi ki thi. Ke mujhe abeer malhotra ke surname ke saath aane wala status chahiye tha. Aur tumne maan liya abeer. Itna hi jante the tum apni meher ko. Tumne mujhse ek baar puchna bhi zaruri nahi samjha" She was breaking down with every word. He wanted to pull her into him, but her wounds stopped him.
"Meher" he spoke in the lowest tone possible. His eyes beseeching her to forgive him.
"Mai tumhe usi raat batane wali thi abeer. Lekin tumhe apne career ki sachai sunni hi nahi thi. Tumhara ego itna bada tha tumhe na meri madad chhaiye thi na apne papa ki. Aur tum mujhe aadhi raat ko sadak par akela chodkar chale gaye" she shivered at the thought of the memory of how she had walked home alone at midnight.
"Lekin mai aaya tha na meher..." he tried to redeem himself with his last shot, hating himself by the minute, trying to save at least an ounce of his self-respect in his own eyes.
"Haan Abeer tum aaye the, ye kehne ki tumhe fark nahi padta agar mai tumhari poori property le lu bas mera pyaar chahiye tumhe." when he heard it the way she put it he wanted to kill himself."Mai kaise us abeer ke saath jaati jo mere pyaar ko bikaav samajhta tha" she wrapped her hands around her stomach to subside the pangs of pain.
Abeer leaned towards her wrapping his own hands around her tiny frame sideways, holding on to her as lightly as possible, resting his chin on her hair.
"Baby" he spoke finally with all the love, guilt and pain he had inside him. She didn't need to hear anymore.

"Ma ye sahi nahi hai" adi requested his mother nervously running his hand through his hair running out of ways to convince her "RD aur sanyu kabhi nahi manenge"
"Toh tum manao unhe. Iseeliye to tumhe FITE mei un dono ka intern banake bheja tha, is liye nahi ke tum unke BFF bano" Maya said in her calm demeanor. Not an ounce of her exterior betrayed the fact that she needed sanyukta and randhir to be her partner in this if she had any hope of saving her company.
"Ma lekin wo dono apne inventions ko kabhi paise ke liye use nahi karenge. Wo sabki help karna chahte hai, naaki sirf paise walo ki" He tried harder to convince his mother of the reality he knew. Randhir and sanyukta were the most famous scientists of their time in their 1 year out of FITE itself they had made a name for themselves. But they never left FITE because it was their home, and they always kept their inventions open source so that every one could benefit from them.
"Adi beta, tum kuch kar sakte ho to karo, warna i will have to take matters into my own hands" Her sugary sweet smile did nothing to mask the threat that loomed in her voice and with that she walked away leaving a flustered adi.

He fixed the last screw on the time machine with his shivering hands terrified of living the worst day of his life for the second time. He was never able to erase the nightmares that day gave him. Wiping the lone tear that had dared to escape from his eyes he stepped into the time machine he had made. He lost everything because of randhir and sanyukta on this day. He wouldn't let history repeat itself. He would create a better today by erasing yesterday.
He flinched as his eyes caught hold of his reflection in the time machine glass. His scarred face and burnt hands were a constant reminder of that day never letting the fire in him subside.
"You thought you were so smart RD. Always the most over-confident jerk who doesn't care about anyone's feelings but their own. Let us see how your genius helps you against what I have planned for you" Adi smirked to his reflection on the time machine glass before punching in the numbers of the date he wanted to go back to, knowing he would find randhir and sanyukta there, the perfect pawns for his game.

"We can't let history repeat itself" abeer said with a determined nod.
Despite all their differences in personalities and thinking all 4 of them understood this one sentiment. Not letting the past become their future had brought them here in the first place.
With one last look at abeer and meher randhir and sanyukta stepped into the time machine bidding them a final goodbye.
Randhir and sanyukta had doubted the results of meddling with the past all along. The more they changed their past, the more they stayed here the more their past and future merged together and if they stayed any longer there would be no future left for them to return to. But they had to take the risk for adi's sake. They were able to escape before their past and future merged together. Meher and abeer didn't have that option to accomplish their goal they had to stay back. Even if it meant they had to sacrifice their entire life.
-------
Sanyukta clutched randhir's hands with all her might as they landed back into the future they had started from. Shutting her eyes tight she clung to randhir afraid of what their one decision in the past might have changed their future into.
"I've been waiting here for your return" adi said as they stepped out of the time machine.
Randhir instinctively covered sanyukta with himself standing ahead of her gripping her wrist with his right hand.
"Adi..." sanyukta tried to speak through a broken whisper but couldn't complete her sentence.
"She killed me." adi said as he buried his face in his hands and sobbed. "my own mother" his voice was barely a whisper.
"You guys were right all along. I should've listened to you." adi continued garnering all his strength. Randhir loosened his grip on sanyukta yet shielded her just in case.
"I know you sent the past me to save my mother from the blast. I saw the message. I saw it with my own eyes just as I landed at the entrance of the mechanical lab the past me was begging her to back out. Out of stealing your invention but she was so hungry for power and fame she wouldn't listen any of it and then she pulled out a gun and shot him in cold blood."
"You were never of any use to me. I don't want you to be an eye witness against me now" were the last words she spoke to me.
Sanyukta and randhir were at aditya's side by now holding him at either side.
"I knew at that moment that if she lived this world would not be the kind of world I wanted to live in. Especially if she got her hands on your invention. I stood fixed in my place as she went to grab the machine and it blasted to pieces. She killed her own son and I let my own mother die. I have no family left."
Randhir and sanyukta hugged adi from the side trying to soothe him.
"We are sorry for you man." randhir was the first one to speak up.
"We are your family" sanyukta said as she parted from adi and wiped away his tears.
If all this gave her back her best friend it was a cross she was willing to bear hoping that adi would get over it as well. She sent a silent prayer to the skies hoping abeer and meher were as successful as they were.

6 months later
"Do you think this will work?" meher asked skeptical as they sat in their hotel room waiting to see the outcome of their final move.
Abeer boarded the flight.
the message on abeer's phone conveyed the news they were anxious to hear.
Meher has accepted the job as business head to R&S.
Meher's phone beeped at the same time.
Abeer had been signed by an anonymous company to do a 5 year long world tour to promote indian music and indian rockstars. While meher had gotten an unexpected call from FITE roorkie for a job interview. Though her shock was nothing compared to randhir and sanyukta's who didn't even know there was someone coming in for an interview. But one hour with meher and they knew they couldn't let her go. She was hired immediately for R&S industries.
Thrilled with happiness that their plan of separating past meher and abeer finally worked meher swung into abeer's arms unable to contain her happiness.
"We did it abeer. We did it" she continued chanting not letting go of him.
He wrapped his hands around her resting his chin on her hair. With a silent kiss on her head he whispered
"Yes my love, we finally stopped their love story from ending up like ours. They won't have to deal with any scars like us."
Meher silently sobbed holding abeer for support realising she didnt mind the scars that much they were also part of their love. They were evidence of abeer and mehers madness for each other, madness which knew no bounds. They had successfully re-written past meher and abeer's future but would they ever be able to re-write their own past?

Letting each other go was the toughest decision of their life. But they both knew it was the right thing to do. Their career was their first priority.
He toured the world with her in his heart.
She made his memories her entire world.
The good bye they thought would be the worst but the 5 years apart were even worse. But like every hardship even it came to an end.
He returned to the person he left his heart with.
She was waiting for him just like always.
"Meher" she heard him before she saw him.
When their eyes met, His eyes reflected every feeling in hers like a mirror.
"I got something for you" He said as he took his guitar out of its box and climbed on a nearby park bench. Trying to give it a concert feel, like he wanted the entire world to hear what he was about to say.
Tanha mai ghuma.
Galiyaan Sheher.
Aaya Khayal Tera.
Aayi na tu nazar.
Aayi na tu nazar.
Meher gasped as her hands moved to her face to cover their shocked expression. Her own words rung in her ears.
"Chalo lets make a deal. Jis din tumhe aisi ladki mil gayi jo tumhari awargi khatam karde, tab aake mere saamne ye gaana gaana. Jis din is gaane mei wo feel aa jayegi, mai ise pasand karne lagungi"
Jis din tu mujhe... mil jayegi
Tham jayegi meri awaargi.
"How do you like the song now" abeer asked with a smirk.
Closing the distance between them with each word.
"I think it is growing on me" Meher blushed.
Abeer put the ring on meher's finger before she had a chance to say anything else.
"Hey you didn't even wait for my answer" meher hit him on his shoulder with mock anger trying to control her overwhelming emotions.
"Didn't want to give you the chance to say no baby" abeer joked helping her regain composure and stopping her from breaking down completely.
"Do it right or I am saying no" she said wiping her eyes before the tears had a chance to spill.
"Ok Ok, Just because I call you baby doesnt mean you behave like one" he threw up his hands in an animated gesture of frustration as he went down on his knees.
"Meher purohit. From the moment you stepped into my life I knew my life would never be the same ever again. Please make me the luckiest man and be my meher forever"
"Oh abeer. I thought you'd never ask" she bent to his level and flung herself into his arms before he could go any further. Holding him as tight as possible to her heart she finally let go of herself. She knew she could be week now, he was here to be her strength.
"I have always and will always be your meher. I missed you so much I cant even tell you in words how much. " she continued still holding onto him.
He adjusted themselves so that she was in his lap, her head resting to his heart, hoding her to him he let her go on and tell him everything he had missed in her life in the 5 years he was away from her. He had achieved everything he wanted name, fame , money. He had proved his worth to his father. But all he wanted was to be meher's abeer now, that would be his biggest achievement.
Meher and Abeer got married 2 months after that. Unknown to them two uninvited guests attended their marriage and saw themselves get married. Abeer and meher hid in a corner holding each other for support as they saw themselves take the 7 pheras that would bind them for life. They prayed to the sky above to shower blessings on this marriage and not let it end up like theirs.
-------
"So thats the end of mission save the future i guess" meher said braving a fake smile as she held a hand towards abeer once they were safely outside the marraige hall.
Abeer was too dazed to react. Knowing that abeer was beyond comprehension, meher started walking away from him. Maybe now she could get away from all this mess to a place where no one knew meher purohit or abeer malhotra and start a simple life - as simple as a time travelling person from the future stuck in the past could live atleast.
She had only taken a few steps when abeer's humming made her stop in her tracks. Feet affixed to the ground she heard him play out the tune he had written for her, but this time instead of anger it resonated of immense undying love.
Zinda hua mei phirse tujhe chooke jaane jaan.
Rag rag mei tu hi hai, ab mai hun mera kaha.
Chahat se teri roushan is dil ka gulistaan.
Pyaar se apne rang se ye adhoori daastan.
Tere nishaan.
Tere nishaan.
Tere nishaan.
Abeer fell to the ground unable to hold himself together anymore. She rushed to his side tears streaming from her eyes.
"Abeer..." she tried to speak but was cut off by him.
"Please. Don't say no. I know we've done this before. I know the scars still remain. But let me take your pain away meher. Let me give you new, happier, better memories. Give me one chance to make it right. Their love story survived. Give ours another shot our love will triumph too" he said, with every ounce of emotion and love he ever felt.
Meher put her finger to his lip to stop him from rambling on. She literally pounced on him to hug him. The sheer force of her hug was such that they both ended up on the garden floor with meher laying on top of abeer.
"My Abeer" Meher pecked him on the cheek in between sniffs.
