chapter 7
"Sanyu, today is the day. It is either this or that. We need to decide" randhir said as he shook sanyukta out of her reverie.
"But RD..." sanyukta was interrupted by the ringing of randhir's phone.
"Haan abeer..."
"Did you take care of..." he was cut off.
"Then what did you do?" abeer's answer made RD even more tense than he already was.
"There is more?" RD asked in shock.
"WHATTT?" and he went pale disconnecting the call.
"It is happening." was all the answer he could give to sanyu's questioning eyes.
"Oh no" sanyu gasped as she shrunk to the floor.
--------
Abeer stood pressing his ear against the storage room door. Meher was slouched beside him on the floor. He could assess how much pain she was in and just how hard she was trying to keep it from him so that he doesn't worry further. What Meher didn't know was Abeer had a lot of such mysterious injuries himself which he covered smartly with his hoodie T-shirt and his bandana to shield her from further worry. But pain wasn't the main issue right now, the issue was the noises that could be heard from outside of nisaar, saasha and of themselves.
The Girl's hostel wall had finally fallen and now things were going at a much more higher pace than they were ready to manage. Abeer peaked a look outside the storage room to find out what was happening.
"Nahi" meher said shyly as she blushed catching hold of abeer's hand which was pushing up her salwar.
Abeer in the storage room turned towards his meher cocking up an eye-brow "Like past like future"
The past abeer though took a hand-kerchief and tied it around his eyes.
"Meher koi doctor nahi hai. Please mujhe dressing karne do" he pleaded "Mai ankho ko cover kar leta hun. Tum mujhe guide karna"
Meher's eyes moistened at his sincerity before she muttered a hmmm. She held his hand and helped him pull her salwar up. Stopping at the place where she was hurt she handed him the bandage and helped him tie it around the wound.
As future abeer looked through the creek in the storage room door his eyes welled up.
"Meher mujhe abeer ki ankho mei wahi dikhta hai jo meri ankho mei hua karta tha. Kya Kami reh gayi meher humare pyaar mei?"Meher closed her eyes and leaned further into the storage room door. If it was the pain of the un-explained injuries or the pain of something deeper he didn't know.
" Nahi abeer, humare pyaar mei kami nahi thi. Humara pyaar itna zyada tha ke hum dono nahi sambhal paye." meher started finally giving up on keeping the secret she had been carrying since 8 years.
"Meher...please" he begged her kneeling down beside her. For years he wanted answers from her but now when she was about to tell him he wasn't sure if had the strength to hear them.
But now that she had started she needed to let it all out.
"Groove channel was started with a seed investment of 2.5 crores." Meher spoke matter-of-factedly. Abeer gasped.
"Satish sahni ko music channel kholna tha aur mujhe tumhe rockstar banana tha" her eyes had the same pride in them which she always had when she talked about how talented he was.
Abeer didn't understand what was happening. The entire world he had built for himself on his hatred for meher was crumbling to dust with her words.
"Toh phir tum wapis kyun aayi?"
"Kyunki company abhi bhi meri hai.jab company losses mei ja rahi thi sahni roped me back in. " she explained.
"Maine divorce papers ke saath groove channel ke investment ke papers bhi sign kiye the. Tumne mujhpe trust nahi kiya abeer lekin mujhe humesha se tumhare talent par yakeen tha. Aur mai tumhe jeetta hua dekhna chahti thi " Even after the way he had treated her she gave up her everything including her self respect for his career. Abeer didn't know if what he was feeling at this moment overwhelming hatred for himself or unconditional love for her.
"Meher tell me you didnt" Abeer hid his face in his knees curling up into a ball trying to hide from her answer which he knew even before she said it.
"Haan Abeer. Mei tumhare papa se tumhare liye paise lene gayi thi abeer. Mai tumhe har din haarta hua nahi dekh sakti thi" tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Lekin dad ne toh bola tha..." abeer couldnt even complete the sentence. How could he have ever believed that about his meher.
"Ke maine tumse tumhare paise ke liye shadi ki thi. Ke mujhe abeer malhotra ke surname ke saath aane wala status chahiye tha. Aur tumne maan liya abeer. Itna hi jante the tum apni meher ko. Tumne mujhse ek baar puchna bhi zaruri nahi samjha" She was breaking down with every word. He wanted to pull her into him, but her wounds stopped him.
"Meher" he spoke in the lowest tone possible. His eyes beseeching her to forgive him.
"Mai tumhe usi raat batane wali thi abeer. Lekin tumhe apne career ki sachai sunni hi nahi thi. Tumhara ego itna bada tha tumhe na meri madad chhaiye thi na apne papa ki. Aur tum mujhe aadhi raat ko sadak par akela chodkar chale gaye" she shivered at the thought of the memory of how she had walked home alone at midnight.
"Lekin mai aaya tha na meher..." he tried to redeem himself with his last shot, hating himself by the minute, trying to save at least an ounce of his self-respect in his own eyes.
"Haan Abeer tum aaye the, ye kehne ki tumhe fark nahi padta agar mai tumhari poori property le lu bas mera pyaar chahiye tumhe." when he heard it the way she put it he wanted to kill himself. "Mai kaise us abeer ke saath jaati jo mere pyaar ko bikaav samajhta tha" she wrapped her hands around her stomach to subside the pangs of pain.
Abeer leaned towards her wrapping his own hands around her tiny frame sideways, holding on to her as lightly as possible, resting his chin on her hair.
"Baby" he spoke finally with all the love, guilt and pain he had inside him. She didn't need to hear anymore.
----------
"Ma ye sahi nahi hai" adi requested his mother nervously running his hand through his hair running out of ways to convince her "RD aur sanyu kabhi nahi manenge"
"Toh tum manao unhe. Iseeliye to tumhe FITE mei un dono ka intern banake bheja tha, is liye nahi ke tum unke BFF bano" Maya said in her calm demeanor. Not an ounce of her exterior betrayed the fact that she needed sanyukta and randhir to be her partner in this if she had any hope of saving her company.
"Ma lekin wo dono apne inventions ko kabhi paise ke liye use nahi karenge. Wo sabki help karna chahte hai, naaki sirf paise walo ki" He tried harder to convince his mother of the reality he knew. Randhir and sanyukta were the most famous scientists of their time in their 1 year out of FITE itself they had made a name for themselves. But they never left FITE because it was their home, and they always kept their inventions open source so that every one could benefit from them.
"Adi beta, tum kuch kar sakte ho to karo, warna i will have to take matters into my own hands" Her sugary sweet smile did nothing to mask the threat that loomed in her voice and with that she walked away leaving a flustered adi.
-----------
He fixed the last screw on the time machine with his shivering hands terrified of living the worst day of his life for the second time. He was never able to erase the nightmares that day gave him. Wiping the lone tear that had dared to escape from his eyes he stepped into the time machine he had made. He lost everything because of randhir and sanyukta on this day. He wouldn't let history repeat itself. He would create a better today by erasing yesterday.
He flinched as his eyes caught hold of his reflection in the time machine glass. His scarred face and burnt hands were a constant reminder of that day never letting the fire in him subside.
"You thought you were so smart RD. Always the most over-confident jerk who doesn't care about anyone's feelings but their own. Let us see how your genius helps you against what I have planned for you" Adi smirked to his reflection on the time machine glass before punching in the numbers of the date he wanted to go back to, knowing he would find randhir and sanyukta there, the perfect pawns for his game.
