People are ranting and raving about how every thing is apavitra about this Pavitra rishtha. I did too until I realized EK's point! The thing is she is an iconoclast! She wants to demolish romantic notions and expose people to harsh realities of life. People go on about the relationships on the show and what not! The point here is what is being shown is definitely a reflection of what goes on around us. I am not justifying ao called immorality here but simply saying that moral codes are way too subjective for any rigid interpretation. It would do us a lot of good not to get so hot under the collar over every single occurrence on the show. Some of us maybe paragons of virtue but.a lot of us are not. We are human beings with all the attendant foibles and frailties. It may not be possible for many of us to live up to the exalted standards of others. However, while we work at improving ourselves, we can also work at being a little less judgmental of those among us who may not be quite so perfect!
Pavitra Rishtha is a sort of a contradiction. Because there is nothing pavitra about rishthas on the show. Each of the relationships is as messy as the other. To me, the relationship that has utmost sanctity is the mother-child relationship. But when a mother can trade her son's happiness in return for money and power, I have no hopes for the sanctity of any other relationship on the show! However, is this only on this show? Do we not hear of parents killing their own offsprings in real life in the name of honour? If this is the world that we live in, why do we expect our TV shows to portray ideal relationships? Why are we looking for moral science classes in TV shows? More importantly, why do we expect the portrayal of an ideal world when the one that we live in as ugly as it can get? Why should all these characters be oh so honorable when we are not?If you ask me, the show's title is EK's way of cocking her snook at her viewers! It is her way of holding up a mirror to the society we all live in!
