But as for Arjun today, between the 'what if' of Purvi and the 'what is', or rather now the 'what was' of Ovi, he has become a nowhere guy, the dhobi ka kutta of Indian folklore.

As I wrote on another of these innumerable threads with almost the same topic that have deluged the forum since last night's Ovi shock hit so many like a tsunami and disoriented them completely, the serial should now have the subtitle The Travails of Arjun. Like the episodic The Perils of Pauline, which I am told was the highlight of the traditional Saturday matinees in the 1950s in the US.

Every episode now seems to end with him holding his head in his hands or, alternatively, with his mouth half open, trying to project Shock and Grief .Or stammering unconvincingly, as in the precap. What a fall, my friend!

Shyamala

Shyamala,

You are so right he is a nowhere guy. What is sad about the whole thing, is that I can't feel sorry for him because of his abusive behaviour towards Ovi during the marriage. If that was not there, then I could 100% support them getting back together. There would have been hope, had he not behaved that way and Purvi has got him covered already.

Count me in, bips, I always knew the chap was worthless. This would be the ideal solution all round, for the amar premis belong together, being birds of a feather. They need not bother about Onir, he will apologise for his very existence and melt out of their lives.

But why is she doing this kind of scene, that I thought was a Nirupa Roy patented one?

Straight out of a 70s film. Pavitra purvi (in backless choli) running in the rain helplessly with nanhi pari. Trying to cover her annkhon ka tukda with her sooti-sari ka pallu. What a scene - dukhyaari, bechaari, duniya ke bhoj ki maari.

And there comes dk in his shining car and gives pitiful purvi a lift. Hands up those who think this dard bhari daastaan will reach arjun and pavitra pyaar will again become jaagrit in his komal heart.

Dear Aunty
This is the kind of behavior I was referring to in my post about DK. He needs to be stern. He just seems like a go with the flow kind of person. problem is such people are awesome in california not in pavitra rishta which claims to be the opposite of go with the flow, free love type hippies. the girl's idiocy ran a demolition truck on his family and he's just cool. he should have been like- 'i'm taking pari home. you can walk. you can come collect her in the morning if you want.'

Maybe i will do a KC the day DK is spotted in that red light area . I have many comments for this but i am holding them .🤣

Kalapi , yes , a man CAN love 2 women at the same time . Whats more the same goes for a woman too .

In Arjun's case it is like this

He unconsciously has a relationship of sorts with Ovi . He unconsiously depends on her for always being there . He will never bother to woo her or utter the usual niceties with her but simply take her for granted and expect her to 'understand' as the familiarity brreds contempt ...he grew up with her . But Ovi matters to him as a man ...its like unconsciously catching a wall when ur stumbling . See these scenes

1] When he noticed those guys in Canada and was disturbed
[ naively chauvinistic]

2] Saying to her when he told her he had an anniversary present for her that he actually had forgotten the wedding anniversary and being stricken momentarily by the look of extreme unhappiness on her face '' Ovi , don't cry'' [ again , naive chauvinism for u . But he did not want her to cry , he was genuine about that .]

3] Yesterday's scene . He wanted her without any training by Purvi .

4] Him asking her for tea so naturally .

5] Telling her ' Look , i have even sent Pari to Purvi . What he meant was , Come back , thats what u wanted right ? A naively chauvinistic deduction , without understanding a woman .

6] Him NOT filing for divorce or even thinking in that direction .

He was abusive in that marraige alright and he has been extremely unfair to his wife coz he could not get the ex who did a number on him out of his system . But Arjun's chauvinism is not hard core brutal ...it is naive like it exists in 90% of the men . He won't mind if Ovi shops a lot by using his credit card , he will absent mindedly tell her to go ahead . But he will forget their anniversary and whats more , naively tell her about it . He will be puzzled about her unhappiness coz he equates being an excellent provider with being a good husband , again , a chauvinistic trait in many men . Very common , till women take a stand and burst their bubble . And when they do ,such men r super puzzled .😆 One almost feels pity for that kind of naivete .

If Purvi had not come between him and Ovi , their marraige would have been very succesful . They belonged to the same social strata , were friends , accomplished and good looking. When the video clips of their childhood were shown it was Purvi who was an outsider . She was frankly not even a part of his real life .

She was a challenge to him and pursued by him for precisely that reason ...but she would have NEVER made him happy even if they had married coz she wanted him to change for her , she wanted him to mould himself for her . Remaining unchanged herself , she wanted him to bend backwards and forwards to please her , and those kind of whirlwind romances NEVER WORK .

He was tremendously attracted by her hard to get persona but he never even thought of divorce when his love child was found out . Speaks a lot for Arjun . He is an extremely flawed character but very real and far more interesting than Purvi coz Arjuns do exist .

Love your Post Kools. Extremely perceptive.😃

Yes, Arjun does exist in the real world. Purvi...whatever.

Yes, if there was no Purvi, Ovi and Arjun would have worked it out.
Purvi and Arjun would not have worked, because she is always trying to change him. Very true Kools.

Archana being the nirupa roy and now Purvi NR jr...😆
Kools loved your take on man or woman can be in love with more than 1...two 😃 I 10000% agree on Had Arjun Purvi married their marriage would not have worked out once the novelty wore out and euphoria had fizzled...Trust me I dont know what I am talking abt 😆 But but I do I do 😆
Teju you mean the flower generation of 60s the hippies who became yuppys in 80s and 90s and back to hippies again these days 😉 Oh the No. California people...Blame it on darn Maharishi Mahesh and his followers...And PT RS and Ustad AAK students 😛
DK simply cracks me up...Yesterday only he was telling Ovi to stay and today driving thru RL district to take NR jr home with him...

Kool, thanks for your take..And as I said, men (or women) can love multiple ppl all at once. It isn't like, if you love one person, there isn't anything else to offer. Someone told be long long ago – love is to him like a deep ocean – water isn't falling short if given to multiple ppl. In fact, there are real stories of men living with different wives in different cities (in India and elsewhere) also. I guess, different relationships might just fulfill different need (beyond a physical need). Even some extramarital affairs are based on these needs (that might be other than physical). Of course, society doesn't approve such 'freedom' and that is an altogether different debate.

I also agree, men like Arjun exists. I have seen some myself in my life so far. They are a confused lot and can easily be swayed one way or the other too. Sometimes, they do get on my nerves for their sheer inability to take any concrete decisions. I have seen someone who could have been equally happy marrying one or the other person. Personally, I am driven to nuts by such behaviors, but there are all sorts of characters out there. What you say about Arjun is very true. His naivete drives one crazy, but he isn't really harmful. And in his own way men like him, thinks they are doing their duty. See, how confused Arjun has been shown, one moment he tells Ovi that he is hers and doing everything to make their relation a success, and the next moment talking to Purvi on his lappy or saying out loud in that Kol tram that he will make a conscious effort to forget her. Sometimes, it makes one wonder, if he knows how he maintains 2 different personas. I guess that is why I kinda swing like a pendulum where Arjun is concern😆, sometime I feel sorry for him and at times, I feel like slapping him still he takes a firm stand. That is why I feel, that now that Ovi is out of his life, he will miss her. Yes, Ovi was like his lappy, or cell phone or that cupboard in his room – ever present in the background and taken for granted to be there for him to turn to at a moment's notice – and even the abuse he did on her (or his lappy/cell phone ) was because he never feared of losing them (or maybe thought that he can buy them back in a jiffy) or thought that these needed any special attention – for it was there for him to just reach out too. That is why he was crying when DK asked him to bring Ovi back, saying that she will not come back – but when he saw Ovi leaving – he was pleading her to stop. The contrasting character becomes fascinating to watch at times.
