Chapter 3 ----Arjun and Manav

Arjun hastily had lunch in his room and then left immediately for his meeting with Manav Deshmukh. He wanted to get this meeting over with at the earliest. He'd heard that Manav was a shark that devoured his competitors. He was feeling a little nervous and he carefully thought of his game plan as he drove to his destination. All thoughts of finding his missing cufflinks along with Purvi disappeared. His focus was now on winning.

He arrived a bit early for the meeting and was asked by the receptionist to wait in the lobby while she informed Mr. Deshmukh of his arrival. Manav was in his cabin going through a file and smile when he heard that Arjun was there. He signal for the receptionist to sent Arjun inside.

Arjun entered the office and was pleasantly surprised when he saw the interior of Manav's office. The office was spacious and boasted an amazing view of the lake. There were gold trimmings all around. The chairs were made of expensive leathers and the desk had a marble top finish. Numerous paintings lined the walls and Arjun recognized one that his mother had done. He looked at the painting and smiled. He knew his mother was famous but he didn't know that people valued her work here in India. Manav got up from his chair and walked over to Arjun. He saw him gazing at the painting. "Aashana has so much talent."

Arjun turned and came face to face with the man that was Manav Deshmukh. "You know my mother?"

Manav smiled at the young man before him. "Quite well actually. She's my wife's best friend!"

"Hold on a second, Archana is your wife?"

"Yes she is."

Arjun was shocked. Archana was his mother's best friend for years and he'd never made the connection that she was Manav's wife. When Archana came to visit his mother, she usually came alone and she never discussed her family. His mother was currently touring France with her paintings and he never got around telling her that he was trying to acquire Manav's company. He wondered how she would react when she found this out.

"So, you are the son of DK and Aashana! Welcome to India, Mr. Arjun Kirloskar. It's a pleasure to finally meet you." Manav extended his hand to Arjun.

"Mr. Deshmukh, I seem to be at a disadvantage. You know about me whereas I know little about you!"

"please call me Manav. Son, I have known your family for quite some time. I'm surprised that DK sent you here. I was actually expecting him."

"Okay. Dad is on a business trip in Australia, that's why he sent me. But he never said that he knew you Sir."

"Ah DK has gone on business. The man never rests. I'm sure it slipped his mind to mention that he knew me."

Arjun thought about this for a second then he smiled. He knew his father better than anyone and DK was not some to forget important facts. Arjun decided that his dad knew what he was doing when he sent him on this trip.
