Chapter 2 --- The missing cufflink
Arjun walked away from Purvi and made his way back to his hotel room. He was there in Mumbai to conduct a business deal with Mr. Manav Deshmukh. His company, AK Group of Companies was trying to acquire one of Mr. Deshmukh's companies, but that was to no avail. Manav Deshmukh was one tough cookie and was a giant in the business world. It would take a lot of bargaining to win over Manav.
Arjun looked around his room. It was one of the best looking rooms he'd seen in awhile. He had travelled around a lot and was very particular where he chose to stay. He was after all, the son of the multi-millionaire business mogul, DK, who owned various companies around the world. His mother was Aashana, a renowned artist, who had a flair for good things. DK and Aashana gave Arjun everything he ever asked for. He was born with a gold spoon in his mouth. The Kirloskar family was treated like royalty every where they went. They lived together in the family mansion in Canada. Now Arjun was here trying to acquire a company for his father.
He wanted to finish his work in India as soon as possible and return to the comforts of his own home. India was a new and foreign land to him. He was an Indian by birth but he never knew about his homeland because his parents moved to Canada when he was but a few days old. He grew up there and never bothered to think about India. His life was in Canada. He was actually engaged to Ovi Sehna, the daughter of one of his father's friends. She was head over heels in love with him but he didn't love her. His love was for his work. He got engaged to her because his father and his friend had surprised him and sprung the engagement on him. He had returned from a trip and had gone directly home and was surprised to see all his friends and colleagues present there. Then his father had announced that he was getting him engaged to Ovi. He was stunned to the core but agreed because he didn't want his father to look bad. He was engaged to Ovi for almost four months and he knew that plans for his wedding were underway. He promised that he would get married when he returned to Canada. He did not know how long his stay in India would be, but he vowed to get Manav Deshmukh's company at all costs.
Arjun took of his jacket and hung it neatly on the hanger. He was a neat freak and couldn't stand being disorganized. He noticed that one of his cufflinks was missing. He searched the entire room for it. He was visibly upset. This particular cufflink was very special to him. His mother had gifted them to him when he had acquired his first company. He loved it dearly and always wore them on special occasions. They were close to his heart. He searched and searched but did not find it. His phone began ringing and he snatched it up angrily.
"What?" he yelled into the phone.
"Arjun? Arjun?Arjun It's me Ovi. Is everything alright?" his fiance was on the line.
"Huh? Yes I'm fine Ovi. Sorry" he apologized.
"What's the matter baby? You sound upset"
"Ovi can I call you back in a few?"
"Is everything alright? I just wanted to know if you arrived in safely"
"Yes, everything is alright. I'll call you back"
Arjun hung the phone. He was upset that he'd lost his mother's gift. He sat down trying to recollect where he lost it. His mind wandered and he found himself thinking yet again about Purvi. "It must have fallen out when we bumped into each other."
He wondered if she had seen it but then he got frustrated because he realized that he had no way of contacting her to ask her about it. He didn't even know where to try to look for her in this huge city. He decided that he'd have to find Purvi because she might have seen his cufflink.
He looked at his phone and decided to call back Ovi. It rung just once before she answered "Hi baby."
"Yeah hi."
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah. I'm sorry if I yelled earlier. I lost my favourite cufflink and was frantically looking for it when you called."
"Oh! Did you find it?"
"Not yet but I won't rest until I find it."
"Okay. Well I'm of then. I'm having a photo shoot this afternoon so I have to go to the spa. You know I have to look my best!" Ovi said and smile. She was one of Canada's top models.
"Alright, enjoy."
"Yeah. I love you."
"Okay. Bye Ovi" Arjun hung up. He always felt uncomfortable when she told him she loved him. He had never responded when she said it. He just didn't want to say something he didn't mean. He was confused himself about this thing called love. He enjoyed spending time with Ovi but he wasn't sure that he loved her.
When the door bell rang, he answered it and realized that he was hungry. He smiled when he saw that it was room service. He asked the maid how he could find someone.
"What's the name luv?" the maid enquired.
He racked his brain trying to remember, "Ah yes, it's Purvi. Do you know where I can find someone called Purvi? it very important that I find her"
"Son, this is India, there are lots of Purvis here. Do you know her last name?"
"No." he realized she had only told him her first name.
"Well then, I wish you luck in finding her." The maid left him to his lunch.
He felt really silly trying to find a girl whom he knew nothing about but his cufflink was important to him. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
"I'll find you Ms. Purvi. I'll find you."
