Mega-auction overhaul: With limitations on retention, Delhi Capitals were possibly the hardest hit. They had to release skipper Meg Lanning, who had led the side to three successive finals, apart from letting go of the well-rounded and experienced bowling group. Besides those who were retained, DC managed to bring back Minnu Mani, Taniyaa Bhatia and Sree Charani. They tried to cushion their losses, by roping in Chinelle Henry and Laura Wolvaardt. Their foreign picks were fairly interesting - ranging from Lizelle Lee, the retired South African opener, to Lucy Hamilton - the 19-year-old uncapped left-arm Australian quick. In the auction overhaul, the biggest miss has been in the Indian pace reserve - from being the strongest in that department to now being possibly the weakest

Newsmaker(s): After three seasons playing Lanning's deputy, Jemimah Rodrigues gets a promotion. Annabel Sutherland, the Australian all-rounder who was retained ahead of the auctions, will be unavailable this season. Fellow Aussie, Alana King, has been drafted in as her replacement for 2026, but Sutherland's absence leaves a gaping hole in both the middle order as well as the pace department.

Watch out for: Ahead of the season, skipper Rodrigues singled out the 'fighter' Sneh Rana to watch out for. Rana's credentials and ability to deliver under pressure notwithstanding, the 31-year-old will be fighting for a place in the side in a very talented and versatile spin group.

Game three of WPL 2026 brings together two heavyweights who arrive here from very different emotional places. Mumbai Indians are still licking their wounds after that dramatic, last-ball defeat to RCB in the opener - a game they had in their grasp before Nadine de Klerk ripped it away. For a champion side like MI, that kind of loss stings, and Harmanpreet Kaur’s team will be desperate to respond and reassert their authority early in the season. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, begin a new chapter. Jemimah Rodrigues takes over the captaincy with the franchise once again chasing the one thing that has eluded them - a WPL title. But DC’s task has been made harder by the absence of Annabel Sutherland, whose all-round quality was meant to be a key pillar of this campaign. How they fill that void could go a long way in defining their season. So it’s a wounded giant up against a side in transition. MI will want to prove that the opening-night heartbreak was just a blip, while DC will be keen to show that under Jemimah’s leadership, they can overcome adversity and still challenge the very best. Toss and teams coming up..

For Mumbai Indians, today's gonna be a test of stamina as they're playing back-to-back. The loss yesterday was absorbing for the viewer but also demanding for the players. Sajana finishing the way she did is a boost. Nicola Carey was great too. Their top order and death bowling needs to pick up. And their fielding, which was an issue for both sides yesterday.

Harmanpreet Kaur: We would have chased if we won the toss. There was very less time to recover, but it is always important to learn from the previous game and improve. We have one change - Saika is not playing and Triveni is going to make her debut.

Delhi Capitals Women have won the toss and have opted to field

Jemimah Rodrigues: We are going to have a bowl first. Hundred percent, DY Patil has always been special, I made my debut here and won our first World Cup here, so it is really special. I have been leading my state team since I was 16, my team is going to back me no matter what, we will go out there and have some fun. This team has some nice energy and I can't wait to see them go. The four overseas players are - Wolvaardt, Kapp, Henry and Lee.
