I dont think we should all just bash the poster who was speaking about american teenagers being forward. Its true that he or she was generalizing and maybe was a bit stereotypical in establishing a binary between american and indian teens. But, I think what he or she was trying to say was that american culture in general is more forward than indian traditional culture. Its a fact. In the states and especially amongst many white American, pre-marital sex is not a big deal. and clubbing, partying and drinking is just normal stuff. For sure, there are many americans who have strong moral values and respect their parents, just as there are many indian teenagers who dont have any moral values at all. I think the issue at hand is the culture at large, and the poster did not mean to imply that everyone in America falls within that culture. I dont think we should all just pounce on him or her, and step back and try to understand what she was really trying to say. clubbing, partying, boyfriends are NOT part of Indian traditions and its a fact. These things (regardless of whether they reflect the lives of ALL americans or not) have come from things such as satellite and american tv, etc.
a
learn to use american words properly.
Now, I whatever i said in my post was not only from the view point of an Indian American teenager living in NY (who according to you only has indian knowledge from visiting india), but also from a view point of a premed student who has lived in America all her life and is currently majoring in Indian studies. I have read all the vedas, geeta, countless books on Indian civilization and I have both an academic and social point of view on Indian lifestyle. So don't think we are in any sort of confusion regarding India.
I live in American and yet I am getting a degree about India. How many of you live there and do that?? PS: If you have any literacy at all, you will know that if I fall down a well, you don't have to follow. If you do, that's your judgement, and you CANNOT blame any one else for that!
Also you cannot generalize American or Indian culture because both are extremely diverse. In India every state is like a different country with its own culture and America is a land of immigrans where you will find people from every signle country and cultures of the world. So because the palate of both the countries is soooo diverse, you CANNOT generalize.
PS: No one here watches baywatch any more... that is wayyyy tooooo old school
