Chapter-25
(Three months later)
Sidhi woke up to the pleasant sensation of Kunal nuzzling at her neck. Her husband clearly could not have enough of her, and she was not complaining. Today was the morning after their second suhaagraat, though this was new and the first in many ways. The previous day was their wedding anniversary, and upon the insistence of their kids, now rechristened Anand and Andy, they had a wedding ceremony again, and got married for a second time, this time without any of the baggage that they had carried in the first ceremony. This time, they hoped and smiled together, facing the future that lay ahead. This time, there was love and care openly expressed and shared all around. This time, nothing could come between two lovers who found their world within each other.
"Good morning" Sidhi sweetly caressed Kunal's hair and smiled.
"Good morning biwi" Kunal said, pulling up to kiss his wife on the cheek. "You stay in bed, today I will cook you breakfast in bed, Kunal Chopra style"
"Arey, why. Let me.."
"No no...no arguments. You stay right here. I will be back in no time." Kunal said and got up, giving Sidhi another kidding before heading to the kitchen.
Sidhi admired him and decided to stay in bed today, for a change. This was the kind of morning a 20 year Sidhi had dreamt of, with her prince charming, but as she grew up, those dreams got lost somewhere.
Today, she felt like the same girl, and smiling to herself, she reflected back at some of the recent events and the path her life had taken to bring her here.
(flashback -1)
Last night was the wedding. It was nothing like her original wedding, except the same handsome groom. Their children and the rest of their family, including Kapil and Shilpa's children, were all there, sharing their happiness. They had ate and danced till late, and the night had embraced Sinal in all its love. Love that they had fought life so hard to claim...
(flashback-2)
Sidhi's thoughts went back to the night on the terrace where she had given up for the final time, but Kunal had stopped her just in nick of time and confessed he loved her and finally trusted her the way she wanted. The night when all the pain of years had dissolved in the tears of their hour-long hug. The night when Sidhi got her family and her life back. The beginning of happiness...
(flashback -2 end)
...though the happiness had come under massive threat one more time after that. Kunal's court case against Abhay Diwan had threatened to take away their happiness again, and possibly forever. Sidhi's face grew serious as she remembered the events of the day.
(flashback-3)
*Tring* the phone's shrill tone disturbed Sidhi's peace as she sat reading up on some legal research. Kunal had already left for the court and the kids for school. As she picked up the phone, Sidhi's world shook with fear.
It was BA, panicking, "Mom, some goons have stopped our school bus and are trying to break the glass and get. The police uncle with us locked all doors but he is hurt. They are calling me and CA, I think they're here for us. Mom, we're in danger."
The worst fears of Sidhi were coming true. "Anand, don't worry. I;ll just be there. Where are you guys?"
Sidhi literally ran out of the home. After getting location details she had called the police and was hopeful they'd reach the spot, but she was scared for the safety of her children, as well as the others in the bus. Goons...had to be abhay's people. Kunal's phone was not reachable as the hearing was likely beginning soon in the court, but she left a message.
Sidhi was at the spot in the next 20 minutes, but thankfully, by the time she'd got there, the situation was already in control. Police had arrived within 5 minutes of Sidhi's call.
The goons had managed to break the main window glass of the bus, but the children, who were hidden under the seats were not hurt. The police managed to arrest all but one of them. As Sidhi got here, she ran towards her sons, who leapt in her arms. The feeling of relief on seeing them safe was beyond words. After comforting them, she checked with the police. No one other than the police constable who was providing protection to the Chopra family was hurt, and he had already been sent to the hospital. Thanks to his quick thinking, the doors and windows were double bolted at first sign of danger and they were able to ward off harm till the police came. Sidhi was grateful beyond imagination to Kunal for ensuring the kids always had someone with them.
The goons confessed Abhay Diwan had sent them to kidnap at least one of BA/CA. Sidhi insisted the inspector to come to the court with the goons and the statements of other right away, where the trial against Abhay was on. She wanted to end this once and for all, and they all left for the court. The kids, who were scared and wanted to see their father, came along as well.
In the court, the case had almost come to a close. All the testimonies and evidence was presented. Sulekhaji was cross-examined and she could not explain how the weapon with which she claimed to have killed her daughter-in-law was the same as that used to call Ramnath later, or even where the weapon was. Other forensic evidence also pointed to the killer not being a middle-aged woman, but a younger, taller, fitter man. Kunal further presented SukhLal's testimony who told the court how Abhay used to beat his wife all the time and Sulekha protected her. The case was quite strong against Abhay. To come up with the verdict, the court took an hour recess. Abhay was super angry, not just at how the case was going, but at not hearing from his men who he had sent for a special job.
During the recess, Kunal switched on his phone and saw Sidhi's message. Immediately panicking, he called her, but to his relief, a calm Sidhi answered her, who was just five minutes from the court by then, and told him that the children were safe. They all arrived at the court and leapt into Kunal's arms. Sidhi then filled him in with the rest of the details and the inspector told Kunal about the confession of the goons.
The court resumed soon after. Sidhi and the kids were sitting at the back, as the inspector gave his statement to the court about the morning's events and the goons' confession. Kunal used it to further strengthen his arguent against the danger Abhay presented to society. It was almost clear Abhay was going to convicted for murder and abuse, when Abhay suddenly ran outwards pulling a constable's gun.
There was panic in the court, as half the people tried to run towards Abhay and the rest away from him. In the panic, the kids and Sidhi had been separated and were standing quite a distance away.
Abhay was a man possessed - "if I cannot live with my son, so can't you Kunal Chopra" he muttered in rage and ran towards CA, pointing the gun at him.
"Kunal!" Sidhi's shriek alerted Kunal to the danger. Both Sidhi and Kunal leapt towards their children, their hearts in their mouths.
Moments later, the sounds of three gunshots reverberated in the courtroom as things came to a standstill.
The first bullet had hit Kunal on his shoulder, who had just jumped in front of CA.
The second bullet hit Sidhi on the stomach, as she came in front of Kunal to protect him.
But the third was fatal, right on the heart.
The third had come from a different gun, pointed by a mother at her crazy, mentally ill son. A mother who had had enough.
Surekha finally couldn't tolerate the destruction her son had caused, and picked up a gun from an inspector's pocket and shot at Abhay, who fell down.
The police and other people, alongwith Anand and Andy, were soon gathered around the three people who were injured. Kunal has escaped a deep wound, but Sidhi was bleeding profusely. Sulekha was going towards where Abhay had fallen, but came to Sidhi first instead, and apologised for everything her son had done. She apologised to Kunal too, for not doing something sooner, and letting her son torture Sidhi and CA, forcefully marry her, threaten her and what not. At some level, she said, she was responsible for what she had let Abhay become. As the medical staff came in to rush Kunal and Sidhi to the hospital, Sulekha went to say her final goodbyes to her son, and for apologising to him.
(flashback 3 end)
It had taken almost two full weeks to recover in the hospital, but Sidhi almost did not feel the pain. Her family took extremely good care of them. Her children were worried at first, but later simply proud of how brave their parents were. Kunal was thankful neither of them had fatal injuries, and his faith in himself, in his decision of trusting Sidhi had been proved correct today. And the best part was, her biggest fear, the constant evil overhang in her life - Abhay Diwan was finally gone away, forever.
Finally, they were free.
And life had started repaying them everything that they deserved and were cheated of.
(flashback 4)
Last month had another big moment, with the opening of their own new law firm, which had already taken off quite well. It was called AZC - everyone thought it was in reference to their stated mission of becoming the largest firm in India, beating AZB, the current #1 firm. Only two people knew though, that the name captured the true identities of the firm's two partners whose heart and souls defined the place - Akdoo and Ziddi Chopra.😊
(flashback 4-end)
Sidhi sat up on the bed, smiling, and realised that the taste of freedom, buttered with love was addictive. The last few months had healed much of what had broken and died inside Sidhi, as well as Kunal. Sidhi remembered the moment six months back when Kunal had pronounced her dead, somebody else's wife, and she had fallen flat, her spirit crushed and her soul broken into a million pieces.
But at this moment, Sidhi had an unending smile as she saw her husband walking in right now with a big smile on his face and a bigger tray in his hand, and wondered how the same man's love had made everything magically alright, and how beautiful it was to be in this constant shower of love, together, unbroken.

Author Note: Hey, this brings us to the end of the FF. Thanks to everyone who read, and who encouraged me to write even when I wanted to give up inspired by the crapiness of the show itself. This storyline was haunting me quite literally when I began writing the first chapter, taking off from that day's episode. I am quite happy that I managed to finish what I had envisaged - what in my opinion was a way to still turn this show around and redeem the brutalized characters, making them connect with the audiences again. More importantly, I wanted to give every character the opportunity to redeem themselves, accept their follies and come back to being the selves they always were. They needed to go through their own personal agonies and journeys to realise their mistakes, and emerge as better more matured individuals who would at least not do the same stupidity again. For once and for all, I had thought, the kids need to go back to being kids, the villains to be punished and the lovers need to learn the true meaning of love. I hope I have managed to do that to some extent, but would love your feedback on this.
Would also love to know if there were parts of the plot or the writing style that you liked or didn't like, and things that can be improved.
Thanks again for reading. I can go back to being a silent reader on the forum again, but nice to know many of you!
Cheers
