What a night!

A night that was all about style, stars, glamour and a lot of 'oomph'

The night was young. A pleasant breeze carried delicious whiffs of perfumes, tinkling giggles and the hint of much thrills in store. Walking down the lit up 'red carpet', we could almost feel a tangy mix of anticipation - yes at Lux Style Awards (LSA), from the red carpet to the main hall, the excitement was infectious and the buzz palpable. You! caught the vivacious Sadia Imam chippering, while walking down the red carpet, "I am nominated so you can very well imagine my level of excitement tonight!" And so it seemed that the excitement that had been brewed up by LSA had reached its peak.

Last week, the fourth LSA took place in the city by the sea and has left a trail of images laden with glamour, glitz, style and 'oomph'. Though still in its infancy, LSA has become the biggest awards show in Pakistan. This year too, like previously, it showcased the acknowledged talent of the entertainment and fashion industry.

Now since Karachi has become somewhat of a feared city due to 'security' issues, there were some skepticals who were wary of LSA being held here. But all their worries were proved wrong, and the mega extravaganza was held in its full glory. It's commendable that the whole event was conducted remarkably well. Kudos to the organizers because from the parking area to the main hall, the staff responsible for security and checking, seemed vigilant and polite. The whole night went on smoothly and the guests enjoyed the enchanting decor of the star studded evening.

Lollywood heartthrob Shaan hosted LSA. His 'double-edged' cutting but subtle remarks, his flawless accent (thankfully), his easy banter and body language were all well received by the audience. When he called upon director Syed Noor to give away the best director (PTV) award, the exchange of comments between him and Shaan over (who else but) Saima, left the crowd laughing and hooting. But what actually had all the guests roaring with laughter were Ali Saleem's and Sajeer's skits. Ali Saleem (now) a.k.a Begum Nawasih Ali was outrageously witty - even Musharraf Hai could not escape a lashing. Sajeer's stint, as a disgruntled husband sick of the way his wife has become addicted to Indian dramas and has turned 'Indianised', got much cheers from the audience.

Speaking of cheers, the most anticipated segment of the event, Babra Sharif's performance, turned out to be a hit. As Shaan aptly put it, "Whew! Talk about energy." There was no doubt that Babra Sharif stole the show.

Jazzing up LSA with oodles of style, were the vibrant display of gorgeous attires by top designers including Deepak Perwani, Nilofer Shahid, Sana Safinaz, Nomi Ansari, Amir Adnan and Sonya Battla. Hot catwalkers Vinnie, Iraj, Rubab and Rabya Chaudry etc. carried the ensembles beautifully.

Some people pointed out a lack in the variety of categories concerning Lollywood but there were plenty of Lollywood jalway for guests to devour. Reema, Meera, Nirma, Gia, Resham, and Veena performed on numbers from yesteryears like Sab to Soniyeay, Saoni Maira Mahe etc. These melodies refreshed memories and as Sangeeta jee put it, "in ganoo nay hamari jawani yaad dila dee."

LSA is being touted to go on air after Ramadan and we guarantee this show is going to give the viewers one of the glitziest television nights of the year.

Made in Pakistan

Last year Dubai hosted LSA. We also had a number of Indian stars gracing the occasion. However not many people (and celebrities too!) fancied much the idea of these Pakistani awards being held outside. This year, You! caught up with different celebrities who thought it was simply great that LSA was back home.

- Winner of pride-of-performance, distinguished designer Amir Adnan was all praise for this year's LSA being hosted by Karachi. "I think 'Lux Style' has come a long way. It's a big night and I am here to enjoy every minute of it. I am really looking forward to it. I am so glad it's being held here and not anywhere else. I think LSA must be held in Pakistan and every year in a much bigger and better way. No more Dubai! We don't want our awards being held anywhere else in the world but right here in the country."

- Much loved pop star, model and actor, the channo boy, Ali Zafar, was found giving a thumbs up to the idea of LSA being celebrated in Karachi. "Such awards must be held in the country. And compared to the one in Dubai, LSA this year in Karachi seems perfect. The ambiance is very homely and I believe that such an event must be held amidst our own people."

- Lollywood's diva Reema loved the 'combo' of LSA and the cosmopolitan Karachi. "Why take these awards anywhere else when they can held so beautifully right here?"

- Popular actress the petit and talented Sadia Imam stressed on LSA to be held in Pakistan. "Bilkul LSA hamaray Pakistan mein he honay chahiyen. After all there's no place like home right? It's great to be among my own people."

- Popular pop star, Shazaad Roy seemed to enjoy LSA's glittering night in Karachi. "I don't think 'security problem' is an issue tonight. We're all having fun and it's great that LSA are being held here - buss zara thori garmi hai."
