How do you write about a woman who fights for what is right? Where do you begin or simply what words do you use to tell the tale of a single brave woman who goes into battle with her one faithful friend by her side all the while knowing that they could fall and never rise?
Life as we know it is not like the morning sun which rises without fail and has been doing it for nearly four and a half billion years and will continue for another five billion years or more. Our lives are counted by decades and very few of us hit the big hundred.
So in the end the question is what is the purpose of life and why we come and why do we have to go.
But these are eternal questions posed by far greater minds and even they say it is up to the one,THE ONE who is the master and creator of all life and all over the universe.
"Attack is the secret of defense; defense is the planning of an attack." ? Sun Tzu, The Art of War
Thenmozhi did not enter into her toughest battle with just a sword by her side but she wore a lightweight armor that protected her upper body from neck to waist, that wrapped all around her body and also from any attacks from behind. The armor came as a complete suit that offered protection for legs, hands and for the head, but thenmozhi took just the one piece to protect her upper body for she wanted her hands and legs free to move as she wished and willed them to move while she swung her sword.
During the past fifteen years,Thenmozhi had explored the inner sanctums of the caves that only she was allowed entry and had learnt many fascinating things about herself and the world and its origins. She learnt that many like her and her lord Azhagan had been born all over earth and would continue to be born and the reasons as to why or what was not revealed to her and neither was she too bothered about them.
But her senses had told her to prepare for the coming moment when she would have to call on all her resources to defeat the enemy that was coming for her and yeshe.Over the years, thenmozhi had spent time learning the various arts of war, fighting and learning about all the deadly weapons that were used in battle to kill others.
What she had discovered after reading all the histories about great kings and warriors was that, two weapons,in fact two types of swords were considered the most deadliest weapons ever made.
One was The Ulfbehrt Sword made by the vikings and the other was The japanese katana used by the samurai warriors.
Thenmozhi had chosen the armor because it housed two katanas on its back and when worn, all the person wearing it had to do was reach over and pull and slash at the same time, either the left sword or the right sword.
For thenmozhi, this was a good solution when fighting because she would lead, launch an attack with the sword by by her side that belonged to her lord Azhagan and if necessity arose then she could reach behind her back for one or both the killer katanas.
Thenmozhi along with Buddha, the tiger entered the forest and the area where the bulk of the caliphs army were just about beginning to split into groups and to take their places and lie in wait for her.But much to their surprise and even before they could prepare their archers and before their swordsmen could be placed in a vantage position, their overconfidence, arrogance and lack of respect for the enemies they were going to face put them in a deadly position of fighting to even stay alive, leave alone being ready and being hidden.
Throughout cultures and time, shouting and yelling have typically been categorized as masculine acts. It makes sense. Yelling is inherently aggressive and often the prelude to actual physical violence. If the roar doesn't work to stave off the fight, well, hopefully it was fierce enough to instill some fear into one's foe, leading him to struggle less fiercely and submit sooner, rather than later.
These roars aren't limited to the animal kingdom, though. In the great epic poems of cultures in both the East and the West, a manly, fierce yell was a desirable trait for a warrior to have.
In The Iliad, Homer often describes the story's heroes in terms of their ability to let out a howl that could weaken the knees of their enemies. Diomedes is called "Diomedes of the loud war cry," and both Menelaus and Odysseus are described as "uttering a piercing shout."
There's something very visceral about the aggressive shout that taps into the animal within us. As historian Dean Miller notes in his book The Epic Hero, "If the human voice...carries the proof of intelligence and therefore of a living vitality specific to humanity, the warrior's shout announces a retrograde act, moving back or down into animality or even into the inanimate (a drumbeat, the sound of the sea)."
Moving back into that raw barbarism via a mighty yell may be a way for us humans to tap into our animal strength. In fact, research backs this idea up: one study showed that athletes who scream when exerting themselves show an 11% increase in power output!
Thenmozhi's and Buddhas attacks were launched with mighty roars and battle cries and both followed one another only moments apart'
Thenmozhi yelled " I come in his name and in the name of the light. In the name of 'Azhagan,Pakalon,Maasilan,Kathiravan,Meykandan,Koman,Nikaran'.
In the few moments it took for the veteran soldiers of the mighty caliph army to realise that the woman and the tiger who had dared to launch an attack on them were not ordinary but extra ordinary beings,a hundred or more lay dead and most of them before they even knew what had killed them and the last thing they saw was a woman with her hair waving around her like green fire around the most beautiful and calm face but for the eyes that blazed death and more death.
Among the forest and in between the trees, thenmozhi took four or more lives with each sweep of her sword and a stab here and slash here meant loss of eyes, split throat and loss of arms and legs.
The stunned few who ran away from there met a even more gory death as gigantic tiger slashed with paws as big as tree branches and in each paw glinted five claws as long and sharp as daggers.
Even the most well trained soldiers, veterans of many great and brutal wars have a limit and a threshold when their will and resolve can be broken.Once broken, their arms freeze in fear and sometimes in awe of the opposing warriors skill at battle and offer no defence as steel comes calling names for the journey beyond the living.
The nearly 450 warriors were of ages ranging from 35 to 65,mature adults, handpicked, well trained and well protected with armor of chain mail, steel breast guards, hand guards and leg guards and steel helmets to cover their heads. They had fought wars in europe, middle east, india, china and were well versed in coping with any eventualities that came towards them in war.
And yet, they did not expect a direct and surprise attack and that two from two mighty warriors who were far superior than them in every way.
When Thenmozhi had launched herself with a bloodcurdling roar and had sprang into their group, the noise of her scream had touched their very soul and had evoked fear and the promise of death, swiftly and terribly.
The first men who saw Thenmozhi jumping on top of them were the first ones to lose their heads as she swung her sword beheading five in one mighty stroke and before the other soldiers could react five more died and hell and mayhem then followed as she parted heads and limbs from their owners.
Just when she was chasing a dozen or more soldiers who were running towards their general jalaluddin,Both thenmozhi and buddha came to a sudden halt and looked back to the caves for their senses told them that something was wrong for they felt Yeshe as he ran towards them with only the thought of saving her,the only mother he knew and loved more than anything, even his love for buddha.flesh triumphs over the eternal soul and truth and flesh will be the cause, the reason for what tragedy that was about to take place.
Thenmozhi knew that yeshe had incredible powers of the mind although totally different to what she possessed but even she had not expected him to be able to move mountains of rock and to free himself from the security that she had provided. She knew that he was coming to protect her but she also knew that he expected too much from the world and was naive to its evil and destructive powers.
She looked at Buddha and the tiger knew what had to be done for now their surprise tactics of attacking was gone and now it would be to protect and defend yeshe at whatever costs and both knew what the cost was going to be.
Just a short distance away Mullah Nasreddin Hodja looked at General jalaluddin and the other four who held the unknown weapons that had crossed oceans and millennium to reach their hands " the prophecy of "Qutb al-Din al-Shirazi is realised and the light from the stars and the light of this world are together as mother and son.Now is the time for our attack and remember,no harm should fall come to the young man. Try to take the woman alive and if it is not possible kill her without hesitation for she will not hesitate even a moment before she chops of your heads. As for the tiger,it is of no consequence and kill it on sight."
Genaral jalaluddin nodded and roared to his remaining few dozen men " Allahu Akbar,In the name of the prophet and in the name of the caliph,Lets go my warriors, lets go and do what needs to be done.we have been away from our wives and children for many years now.Show no mercy while we do our jobs.so we can finish and set sail in the next two days.Do you hear my words?"
All his soldiers roared " Allahu Akbar,Allahu Akbar" and charged into battle.
Great battles are won and lost in a moment,in one single incident and what was victory was turned to defeat and death.
Second Battle of Panipat
On 5 November 1556, the Mughal army met Hemu's army at the historic battlefield of Panipat. Akbar and Bairam Khan stayed in the rear, eight miles from the battleground. The Mughal army was led by Ali Quli Khan Shaibani in the centre with Sikandar Khan Uzbak on the right and Abdulla Khan Uzbak towards the left and the vanguard led by Husain Quli Beg and Shah Quli Mahram. Hemu led his army himself into battle, atop an elephant named Hawai. His left was led by his sister's son, Ramya, and the right by Shadi Khan Kakkar. It was a desperately contested battle but the advantage tilted in favour of Hemu. Both the wings of the Mughal army had been driven back and Hemu moved his contingent of war elephants and cavalry forward to crush their centre. Hemu was on the cusp of victory when he was wounded in the eye by a Mughal arrow and collapsed unconscious. This triggered a panic in his army which broke formation and fled. The battle was lost; 5000 dead lay on the field of battle and many more were killed while fleeing.
The elephant carrying the wounded Hemu was captured and led to the Mughal camp. Bairam Khan asked the 13-year-old Akbar to behead Hemu, but he refused to take the sword to a dying man. Akbar was persuaded to touch Hemu's head with his sword after which Bairam Khan executed him. Hemu's head was sent to Kabul while his body was gibbeted on a gate in Delhi. A minaret was subsequently constructed of the heads of the other dead.
