It was late in the evening and the sky was turning dark. Karthik and Raji were sound asleep in Raji's bedroom.

Buzz..buzz..buzz...

Karthik's phone was vibrating in his pocket. He started to wake up and took his phone from his pocket. It was a friend calling. Not wanting to disturb Raji he rejected the call and put his phone on silent. Karthik sat up straight on the couch now and looked around at Raji's room. It was beautifully designed and reflected her personality well. There were pictures hanging on the wall some with her father and herself as well as her baby photos. She was smiling beautifully in all her pictures. He looked over at Raji who was still sleeping and admired that. He then got off the couch and went closer to her bed now. He could see her forehead sweating. Karthik wondered if her fever had gotten worse or if she was just getting too hot underneath her comforter. He hesitated but placed his hand on her forward. It was warm meaning that her fever had gone down and she was just getting overheated in her bed. He decided to open a window a little and let some fresh air inside cooling her bedroom.

Ding dong!

Someone was ringing the doorbell again. Karthik turned over to see Raji who was still sleeping. He walked out of her room and was about to get the door when he suddenly stopped.

Whose ringing the doorbell? Her dad is not supposed to be home tonight...Raji better open the door herself.

Karthik walked back to Raji's room and called her name out.

"Raji..."

She was still sound asleep. Karthik now touched her shoulder and shook her up.

"Raji..."

"Hhuuhh ennappaa..."

"Raji, it's Karthik...wake up..."

Raji started opening her eyes.

"Kaaarrthhikk...oh sorry I forgot you were here."

"Someone is ringing the doorbell Raji. You better see who it is."

Raji immediately sat up now.

"What! Oh my god, sorry I never heard...hold on I'll be right back."

Raji got out of bed and ran to the door to open it. Meanwhile Karthik was standing by her room door listening to everything outside.

"Hi Aunty...oh no sorry I was upstairs and I never heard the doorbell ring...yeah...oh the car...uuumm... that's my friend's car. She's upstairs also. We are working on a project for work so she came over...no it's okay aunty I'm fine alone...yes I will give it to him...ok...thank you...bye..."

Raji closed the door shut and locked it. She came back to her room and let out a sigh of relief. Karthik looked at her and asked:

"Everything okay?"

Raji nodded her head.

"Yeah, that was a neighbour who lives on this street. She just wanted to check up on me and give something to my dad. I can't believe I was asleep for so long..."

"Raji how are you feeling now?"

Raji ruffled her hair and fixed her clothes now.

"I'm feeling much better...just really hot...I don't know why..."

Karthik showed the window to her.

"I opened the window a bit, you were sweating, you must have got overheated with the fever and with the comforter."

Raji started to blush and feel very embarrassed about this whole thing.

"I'm sorry Karthik..."

Karthik cut in.

"It's okay Raji as long as you are feeling better that's important. The medicine is downstairs on the kitchen table if you need more. I'm going to leave now, it's getting late and I think it's better that I go now..."

Raji nodded her head still feeling a little embarrassed about everything.

"Yeah no...I understand, I think it's better too, I lied saying that you were my friend and that we were doing work...didn't want to cause any problems or anything...sorry...

"No need to say sorry Raji, I understand."

Raji and Karthik went downstairs while Karthik took out his car keys from his pocket. He put his shoes on and looked at Raji one last time and smiled. She looked into his eyes.

"Thanks Karthik for everything, I really appreciate it."

Karthik smiled looking at her dark brown eyes.

"You're welcome Raji, take care of yourself...I'll see you tomorrow."

Raji shook her head and smiled back at him. Both were looking at each other. Raji opened the door and let Karthik out. Before getting into his car Karthik glanced at Raji one last time as she smiled back at him then went inside closing the door behind her. She went upstairs to her room and looked at herself in the mirror and thought.

He was sleeping on the couch the whole time? He's so caring and nice...

Her eyes looked tired and her body was feeling numb but somehow deep inside she was feeling happy.

What's happening to me? Am I really falling in love with Karthik? Kar..tth.ii..kk..

Her head was running through memories of her and Karthik as she grabbed her towel and went to the bathroom to take a warm bath.
