trps are just taken on a sampling basis.. the main reason nauc did bring in trpsis the time slot... nauc is a youth based show which would have been successful if it was aired in an earlier time slot... even ehmmbh which was aired in this slot prior to mahabharat had trps around 2.5 which is the same case with nauc... after mahabharata which got pretty good trps sp wanted the same trend to continue which is not possible as mahabharat show was totally different... moreover 8:30 slot is trp aunty slot or its the time when most people have their dinners.. so in most households the remote is with the parents instead of youngsters and they prefer udaan and jamai raja kind of shows..
i think the slot change can bring in a lot of trps and some stabilityin the storyline too...moreover i wanted am confused about something... when a channels says youth based shows its mostly love stories.. why arent they concentrating on career aspect??? I found nauc pretty interesting during pre LA stages(my own pov) then it totally turned out to be a love story and nisha had very less interaction with her family those days... thankfully they are showing kn interacting with the family too..if given an extension along with a slot change it can bring in better trps and they can even show career track of cousins kabir and also of ramesh..

I think you have a point in regards to audience, but I also think that point is related to the time slot NAUC is given. Rema provided really good background on this issue. Mahabharat used to air at NAUC's timeslot and its obvs that it would've been popular with huge TRPs. NAUC just cannot compare to that show and so obvs it would suffer. As many others pointed out, 8:30 is an aunty/ uncle time slot. That's when the parents sit down to watch things. There's no way NAUC will EVER be able to compete with the likes of JR or Udaan. Those two shows are made for Indian viewers. Whereas comparitively, NAUC is more youth based and for international viewers I feel. It has a western feel to it.
Secondly, as a youth based show, the show's timing should reflect it's demographics. When do youths watch TV? They watch it earlier. Secondly, online leadership should also be counted for youth shows as a majority of youths watch online. The show, despite competing with extremely dramatic other shows and an extremely inconvenient time slot, has managed to garner a consistent and loyal TRP viewership, boosts high online viewership, and has quite a significant online following. That in itself is an achievement. If moved to a better slot, the show has 100% chances of doing better in terms of ratings.I think you do have a point that Indian audiences need to change in order for NAUC to boast of higher TRPs, but I'd also argue that with a few changes (mainly time slot), NAUC could still also achieve success and higher TRPs as well. And regarding Sony, I'm probably 100% off-base with this so take my opinion/ words with a grain of salt. I feel like Sony is an anomaly channel in general. Even when it's had saas-bahu type of stuff on air, it doesn't garner high TRPs. Shows like CID/ CP are it's main TRP bringers. But when SP or other channels try to mimic shows like CID (hello Arjun) or CP (Code Red), they are also not able to mimic the ratings Sony gets on CID/CP. Sony itself is a different channel and normal rules don't seem to apply to it. Idk. It's known for experimenting, but let's not forget that experimenting is not the same as bringing quality television. You can have one without the other and that is often exactly what happens to Sony shows. They experiment but the quality of the show is often shitty. An example of this -- love marriage ya arrange marriage/ Desh ki beti. Both shows were really hyped up and a lot of people were excited to see them, but they failed to deliver (Dil ki Baatein is going the same way). Whereas sometimes they experiment and get good TRPs. Shows like JJKN, Parvarish, Bhaskar-Bharti were pretty good TRP bringers and are iconic today (well maybe not BB). Hence I think Sony itself is a weird channel. Typical shit that is popular on SP/ Zeetv is never really popular with Sony (aside from IKNMP but even that initially started out as experimental). But I digress.
