With the news of NAUC going off air, I wanted to ask-
Star Plus' or the audience's?
I think the audience is more to blame than the channel. What is a channel's purpose?
It gives profits to the producers and entertainment to the viewers. SP at least gave NAUC a chance by putting it on air at a prime time slot, but it is the audience which is not ready for a change in TV programming.
Demographics of the Audience: The TRP audience mainly comprises of housewives or women in the >30 demographic and their families. Until they start giving shows like NAUC a chance, it's not gonna matter what the channel does. After all, every channel is here to make profits and why wouldn't they keep NAUC on air if it was profitable?
NAUC is simply not profitable for SP because the audience is not watching the show. So, I feel like NAUC going off air is more because of the audience than SP. This is not to blame the audience, I'm just pointing out that audience tastes need to change for urban, youth-centric shows like NAUC to work.
NAUC is a simple, homely and heartwarming show about an urban girl and her family. It's not regular saas-bahu fare and it was bound to suffer on the TRP charts because viewers don't want to watch such shows. Just look at what happened to Sony, a channel that always tries to experiment and bring new content to the fore.
IMO, shows like NAUC will not work till the audience changes.
