ok my take on the episode yesterday
Holier than thou Bajpayees: uff they irritate me so much. They behaved as if Renu's divorce was a matter of great social shame and the Mishras had committed some cardinal crime in not informing them earlier. And not just that, but they also implied that the Mishras had deliberately withheld this information till the wedding preparations had reached a stage where they could not be withdrawn. Udi baba/CSB, whatever!!, was particularly irritating - nodding his head and issuing a don type warning - yeh aapne accha nahin kiya! Hello, what did he expect, a running commentary on Renu's marriage for breakfast. A family will only share these things which are very private when they feel comfortable, when matters have reached a point of no return. Waise, I feel that Renu's divorce is to begin with a very private matter between Gautam and her and then their immediate families - why should Navya's inlaws take such a proprietary interest in this matter - frankly, its none of their business. Otherwise, its almost like because the loonies are rich and have a higher social status, the entire Mishra clan and their extended families now need to abide by loony standards of living and behaviour. Of course, the loonies again made the Mishras feel as if they were the lowest of the low and the loonies had again done them a special favour by letting them into their hallowed circle and agreeing for this marriage. Aaahhh!!!!!!
Angry Papa and BD, of course, took this opportunity to blame Navya, just like they always do. God, they really dont like her and what she represents. Poor girl! Wonder what they would have said if they knew that Anant and Mohan also knew everything but had not shared with their family.
The Mishras, of course, acted suitably guilty which much hand wringing and tears - generously conceding higher moral authority to the Bees. No wonder, Renu felt so ashamed and guilty at the end of it. I wish both families would act as if this was a unfortunate development but not the end of the world nor a matter of great social shame.
Adorable Anant: in all of this, thank god for Anant! He was back to his sensible self- immediately going to the heart of the matter - 'if their daughter is in trouble, should they not support her' - with no concern for social perception, false pride and status. Love that bambaiyaness about him.
Of course, in all this, the source of tension remains. The Bees have charged the Ms with ensuring that this matter is not disclosed to all their ancient and super orthodox relatives arriving from various cities of UP during the wedding. And Gautam is ever present, just to take advantage of this vulnerability.
My POV: I know all our young friends on the forum want a big, lavish, happy wedding to lift their spirits and the TRPs. But I speak from my own experience - I have grown up in UP and my sweety hubby is from Lucknow - Marriages are not tension free and happy events for the parties involved. In fact it takes a strong relationship to survive the ceremony and all its attendant politics. Marriages actually bring out the worst in the two families with each focused on their respective relatives and their sensibilities rather than on each other and that is when both families are participating as equals. In this case, the boys side will have a superior position and the girls' side will be subservient to them so it will in fact be much worse with the girls' side bending over backwards to please the boys' family and the latter making all sorts of impossible demands. We had a glimpse of this during the Kanpur wedding - I have a feeling it will be much worse in this one because in this case, the Bees at the very start itself believe that the Ms are inferior to them. If another family is supposed to organise everything as per your understanding of your social status, you can only imagine the pitfalls. i shudder, even thinking about it and the expenses. I am totally with Sanjay Chacha on this, weddings should be simple affairs focused on the ceremony rather than lavish displays of wealth and status - what a waste!
