We all like to think we live in a modern society where the expectations of men and women are far different from how they were in previous generations, and in some ways they are, but how different are we? Perhaps in the previous generations, these gender roles were more explicit, but today, many prejudices and stereotypes are not completely gone. They are implicitly carried out, sometimes unknowingly by doers. My point is, the way Ripu is consistently called "Master Chef" by the judges, as if it's shocking that the title should be given to a male, and Shivangi is jokingly belittled for not knowing how to cook or make tea, implicitly portrays the mentality of our society that expects all women to be brilliant cooks and all males to be ignorant about the ABCs of cooking.
Am I the only one who is a bit annoyed by this, or am I thinking too far? I felt a bit bad for Shivangi today because she looked genuinely upset with the judges' comments, though she tried to hide it.
