"PRISONER OF LOVE"- An AvNeil OS Series
"Never Tear Us Apart" - OS 1
*"Don't ask me...What you know is true...Don't have to tell you...I love your precious heart
I was standing...You were there...Two worlds collided---And they could never tear us apart..."
"Avni"...said Neil as she stepped past him to walk away from him yet again.
Avni stopped in her tracks but did not turn around.
"What is it, officer? Why do you keep stopping me over and over? This is not the way you address an inmate? Don't you understand your behavior is very unprofessional for a police officer?"
That made Neil snap and he walked in front of her and blocked her path.
"Police officer and inmate?" said Neil his voice low. "Is that what we are?"
"Why are you acting like this is news to you? You've been here for 3 days now? Don't you know who you are and who I am?" said Avni with a slight sarcastic twist to her mouth.
Neil stepped closer to Avni and grabbed Avni by the shoulders.
"This sarcasm, nor this act of yours is not going to change reality Avni! And the reality is that I'm your husband and you are my wife! That trumps every other relationship we have!"
"Really? Said Avni with a bitter laugh. "Now you remember you're my husband? Where was this memory when I most needed it Neil? Where was this surety about my position in your life when you were arresting me?" she said with a shake of her head.
Neil closed his eyes and took a deep breath and opened it again!
"Avni...I have said this before and I will say it again, I was doing what was required of me. What I HAD to do!"
"What you HAD to do? Your duty right?" asked Avni.
"Yes my duty. My job Avni! You knew all this about me before you married me! So why were you surprised?"
"Are you serious Neil Khanna?" said Avni as she tried to pull away from him, but Neil would not let her. "Did your job stop you from trusting your wife too? Is that a part of your IPS code, or is that a rule you reserve for yourself?"
"Avni...it's not that simple. Don't you understand..." Neil was saying when Avni cut him off.
"Understand what? That you didn't even spare a second thought before you broke our relationship and told me that it's all over between us? So with what authority are you claiming to be my husband now?" said Avni angrily as she pushed Neil away from her.
Neil caught hold of her arm and pulled her back towards him again. Avni rested her hands on his chest to stop him from pulling her closer.
"I am not claiming to be your husband Avni...I am your husband. We never got divorced. So legally you are still my wife! Mrs Avni Neil Khanna!"
"I am Avni Ayesha! THAT is my name. My real identity! Mera wajood Mr Neil Khanna. I stopped being your wife the moment you took my sindoor and mangalustra away and said that the only relationship that exists between us is of a criminal and a police officer! Or have you forgotten that?" asked Avni angrily.
"I have forgotten nothing!" said Neil with equal anger in his voice. "Do you think it was easy for me to do all that dammit? Do you think I was having fun having to say all that? Have you ever paused to think why I would do such a thing? You accuse me of not trusting you. Have you ever really trusted ME Avni? Because if you did, you would have at least given me the benefit of the doubt!"
"I can say the same for you Neil! Did you not remember what promises we made to each other which I believed went way beyond your JOB, your duty? You said you couldn't live without me, and then you threw me in jail and threw away the key? How the hell was I supposed to trust you Neil and WHY?"
"You're supposed to trust me, because you love me Goddammit.. and I love you!" said Neil pulling her closer. "I love you!" he said more softly this time, looking down at Avni.
Avni simply stared at Neil. He loved her? How can he claim to love her when he had said there was nothing between them? When he had taken her Mangalsutra off and said "Kya faida iss rishtey ka, iss apane pan ka? she didn't think she could ever forget that moment. The shock of it still resonated inside her. That moment when the Neil she had loved more than her life, had let her down so badly! For a moment, her will to live had left her. She had always known his duty was paramount for Neil. But she had come to believed she trumped it all for him. He loved her too much to ever let her go without a fight. But the Neil who had stood in front of her that fateful day 6 months ago had felt more like the Neil she had first met. Tunnel vision, full of angst and always looking for a fight with her. Never trusting her. Ananya Verma the so-called criminal. Case 123. But that day in front of him had been Avni. Avni Neil Khanna. His wife. The woman he loved. The woman who loved him. Did he think it was that easy to just come back after 6 months and tell her he loved her and expect things to be the same? Like nothing in between ever happened?
"You love me?" whispered Avni.
"Of course I love you! Do you even need to ask? Did you think I could ever stop loving you?" Neil whispered back.
"I thought you had!" said Avni.
"Well, you were wrong. About that, and about a lot of things!" said Neil.
Looking into Neil's eyes, she could see that old Neil. The guy who proposed to her in a Tuxedo in a jail cell. Accused her of stealing his heart! But then why had he not trusted her? Why had he accused her of killing Juhi?
"If you love me, Neil...then why didn't you believe me when I said I didn't kill Juhi?"
"Avni"... said, Neil, as he sighed. "Did I ever tell you I didn't believe you?"
"But you didn't say you did!"
"Yes, I didn't. Because I knew if I did, I wouldn't be able to do what I did, the way I did it. I had to arrest you Avni. All the proof was against you. The clock was running out. The time given to me to prove your innocence had run out. It was either I arrest you, or let someone else do it! Or let you run away, take the law into your hands and I couldn't let you do that! You would have been a fugitive Avni! And a fugitive doesn't have a future. At least this way, there was some hope for you to be proven not guilty. But if you ran away, that would not have been possible! Don't you understand that? sighed Neil as he rested his forehead against hers. "I had to do this, to protect you baby...there was no other way!"
Neil left out the part about having to protect her from Vidyut. He didn't think Avni was ready to hear that right now.
"Then why didn't you say that?" asked Avni angrily. "Why did you do and say all those awful things? Why didn't you come to see me?"
"I couldn't! I had to make it look like I was convinced because we had an audience Avni!"
"The audience was our FAMILY Neil, and my best friend, who were all totally shattered!" said Avni with a shake of her head.
"That is not the audience I am talking about!" said Neil. "There is a lot more at play here than you think! It's complicated sweetheart!"
That made Avni angry. "Don't patronize me Neil. This is MY life! And if you're deciding for me, you need to at least tell me why you're doing it! You can't just tell me it's complicated. That isn't good enough Neil! I deserve an explanation!"
"And I will give it to you! But not now. In due time!" said Neil.
"In due time? What time is that? In 10 years?"
"Avni...please give me a bit of time. I'm working on it. Please just trust me! I know it's a hard ask...but your going to have to trust me my love. You don't have any other choice!"
"Ye, I do. I can run away from here Neil...and I know you're here to stop me. But you know how hard it is to keep Avni Ayesha down. As for Ananya Verma...she has fooled you before!" said Avni with a twist to her lips.
"Yes...she has. But that Ananya was a stranger. This Avni is my wife. My love. She won't find it as easy to fool me!" said Neil with a slow smile.
"Don't be overconfident Neil. I know women drool over you and your uniform. Neil Khanna ka jadoo etc..." Avni rolled her eyes. "Just coz that cheap Monica was hitting on you...don't think your God's gift to women!" said Avni with a flash of her eyes.
Neil's grip on her tightened as he pulled her closer. "Those eyes of yours always give you away baby...that jealousy always puts you in it!" said Neil with a soft laugh. "Try as you might, you can't hide the fact that you hate anyone else trying to come close to me, you can't even stand anyone looking at me! Too possessive wifey!" smiled Neil.
"I'm not possessive!" said Avni defiantly.
"Oh yes you are wifey...but don't worry. I only have eyes for you. Always have, always will. Even in this jail uniform, you turn me on like no one else can!" said Neil with a smirk.
"Let me go Neil!" said Avni, not able to stand his closeness anymore. Not when he was smiling like that and looking so sexy. He was not good for her peace of mind, her resolve to be strong, felt like it was melting, and she didn't want to melt. Neil owed her an explanation for how he had acted. It was clear there was something he was not telling her. But what? He had to tell her, or else she will not let her guard down. She could not risk having her heart broken again. He may love her, but she needed him to trust her too. Until love and trust were in equal measures, no relationship was complete. If they were going to keep secrets from each other then it would never work.
"Avni"... said Neil as he cupped her face. "Listen to me!" He said as he bent his head and their noses touched. He then moved his lips closer to hers and Avni's eyes automatically shut. Neil lips curved in a smile seeing that. He closed the gap between their lips and his lips brushed hers slowly. Avni didn't move, and her eyes were still closed. Neil continued to slowly brush his lips over hers and Avni gasped. Neil took advantage of this moment to deepen the kiss, gently biting at her lower lip. Avni's breathing became more labored as she clutched at Neil's shirt. It suddenly alerted Neil to where they were. He gently broke the kiss and looked down at Avni.
"I'll never let you go Avni...have you not realized this yet? Your mine, and no one can take you from me!" said Neil, suddenly feeling possessive himself. In fact, it was his possessive need to keep his wife away from the eyes of a predator like Vidyut R which had led him to take such an extreme step in the first place. "Whether we are together or apart...you'll always be mine, and I'll always be yours! No one can come between us. They can try. But they'll never tear us apart..."

This is my first attempt at writing something on AvNeil. Trust me I have wanted to for months and I finally got some time now that I am on a break for a week, and the right inspiration. It's not that good. But hope you guys like reading it. Please let me know what you think.

P.S: I have decided to make this into a Mini series of AvNeil OS's which are based on the Prison track. I have called it "Prisoner of Love" because that is what both Avni and Neil are. Prisoners of their feelings for each other. I will try and add to the series until I am inspired. Have written a Second OS, and it's on Page 3. Link below.
