=Haal-e-dil=

Part 11

Neil's car pulled out of the hospital parking lot and headed to the high way. Avni was staring at Neil since the ride started and Neil sensed it. Without taking his eyes off the road infront he spoke.

"I know that I am handsome, but never knew that I am damn irresistible as well." Avni immediately diverted her eyes to the front and pressed her lips together

"Why are you driving so slowly? As if it's a baby and something might happen to it." Avni asked what she actually wanted to ask, ignoring what Neil said earlier.
Neil thought to himself. "YOU are my baby. And I don't want anything to happen to YOU. Who cares about this car?" but the words that left his mouth were quite different. "Wifey... I agree your husband is pretty rich, but you're right. This car is my baby, so I can't afford to even get a crack on it." Avni rolled her eyes at the lame joke of her husband.

As they neared the Khanna house Neil drove through familiar roads but Avni looked at the window looking here and there with confused looks.

"Neil, where are we going?"
Neil got a shock when Avni asked him an unusual question. He wasn't expecting Avni to behave like this. He thought she had no memory issues since she showed no signs as such after the day she regained consciousness. Neil applied the brakes immediately and the car came to a screeching halt.

"Avni, don't you remember this road? We always take this road when we travel. Don't we?" Avni who was busy looking out and around through the window turned to Neil.

"No Neil. I can't remember anything!" She had the same puzzled look on her face. Neil's face grew paler. He remembered the things the doctor said to him about "on and off memory loss". Seeing his worried expression Avni broke into fits of laughter. Now it was Neil's turn to be confused.

"Avni.. are you joking?! How could you.." He made a face at Avni who was trying hard to control herself but in vain. Her face turned all red and it became difficult to catch her breath but still laughter continued.

Suddenly Neil grabbed her by the arm and pulled her closer to him. The seatbelt tightened on her body, suffocating her a little bit. Laughter instantly stopped and silence filled the car.

"You have no right to scare me like that Avni. Get out of the car! That's your punishment. Our house is round the corner. Walk by yourself! Just get out now!" Avni's eyes sparkled with new tears. Neil's words hurted her far too much. Without saying a word, she unfastened the seatbelt and moved out of the car carefully.

That was something Neil wasn't expecting. He anticipated her to argue back as usual. To claim her to be his wife and that she won't even step out of the car. His "fake" angry expression softened to a concerned look. He moved out of the car and reached Avni who was now weakly taking her steps further. Neil ran after her and pulled her by her wrist and cupped her face. They were so close not even a fly could enter.

"Heyy.. I was kidding. Shhh.. stop crying Avni I didn't mean to hurt you.. ever.. I was scared, you see. How can you pull off such a prank?"

Avni wasn't meeting his eyes out of guilt. She knew he cared for her and it wasn't right to joke about such a sensitive topic.
"I am sorry Neil." She said in a low voice without looking at him. He smiled and placed his hand under her chin and pulled it up to face towards him.

"If wifey can prank, hubby can too. right? So please stop crying." He wiped her tears and hugged her. She was surprised by this much care for her. They weren't like this before she met the accident. She kept staring at his hazel orbs admiring the creation. Who said men can't be beautiful? They are and the perfect example was standing infront of her.

"Now you better go and sit in the car before I take you in my arms and.." Avni jerked out as if she came out of a trance and turned around before he could finish what he was saying. She sat in the car and looked at Neil who was smirking from the same spot. He then came to his seat and drove before saying

"Revenge will be sweeter now wifey! Just wait."

Avni froze in her position the very second he said that. She kept looking at him with wide eyes. He noticed it but ignored. The remaining ride home was silent.

"Madame Madonna. Jaldi itte aa. Ek kaam bhi theek se nahi karr sakti yeh teri wotti sunny. Aaj meri bahurani aa rahi hai. Kahaa hai aarti ki thali?" Shweta came running with the thali and gave it bebe. To her utmost surprise, the thali was organized well and fine.

"Tu toh badi samajdhaar hogayi Madonna. Aaj suraj kaha se nikla?"
Shweta rolled her eyes but smiled at bebe.

"Woh kya hai na bebe. Meri bahu aarahi hai." She said to bebe while playing with her hair.

"Toh tune konsa theer marli? Chup karr!" Bebe never fail to scold Shweta. She always found fault in whatever she did or said.

"Bebe.." Avni's voice came from the main door. Everyone turned around to see Neil and Avni standing together on the entrance. Shweta admired them and leaned on Prakash who was standing beside her.

"Aankein tarasgayi thi Tillu ko aise happy happy dekhne ke liye. Aaj woh dreams bhi came true hogaya." Prakash nodded his head and let out a content sigh.

It was almost sun set now. Avni was in bed. Everyone left after staying with her for about an hour. When Neil entered the room she was asleep with hair strands on her face. He came closer and sat near her. Slowly he took the hair strands and tucked them behind her ear. Her sleeping face was innocence filled like an angel. He was used to staring at her angelic sleeping face since the first day she was in coma. He continued to do the same even today.

Suddenly, his face fell when he realized something. He still has to tell her about Dayawanti. About a week ago, in the hospital when she asked about her, Neil stopped her from thinking about other stuff saying she wasn't fit yet. She wanted to protest that day but couldn't. But now.. within hours she will start asking him again. What he feared the most was their agreement about their marriage. The agreement that she will go away from his life once Dayawanti was punished. A few months back maybe it was okay. It didn't seem that sad. But now, was he ready to let her go? Does he want her to leave him? Does she want to go away now? As he sat there thinking of it, he made up his mind to never force himself on her. It would solely be her decision. Even if it shatters him. Once again.
