Part 12
The sun rose to a dark morning. It was hidden behind the big dark clothing of clouds. Millions of raindrops poured like an army attacking in full force. Neil was up already in his sweatpants and olive green shirt. The smell of coffee filled the whole room. He showed his mug through the window into the heavy rain for almost a minute before taking the first sip of his morning coffee.
"Good morning wifey!" As he turned around he saw Avni getting up from the bed so he greeted her. She greeted a plain "morning" in return before slipping into the bathroom with her clothes. Neil thought her behaviour to be quite strange.
Almost half an hour later Avni came out wearing a beautiful navy blue chiffon saari. She was lost in deep thoughts as she sat infront of the mirror and adorned herself with shiny silver accessories. On the other hand Neil was admiring her. He watched her getting ready from the couch. But something in his mind warned him that Avni wasn't okay.
As she finished and got up, he got up himself and got hold of the hanging part of her saari. Avni felt her saari tighten from behind. She turned around to see her saari stuck on Neil's watch.
"Your saari is such a nuisance. Always getting stuck at some place or the other.
I am afraid it might make you trip..." With the last line he pulled her closer to him and both of them fell on the couch, Avni on top of him.
"See told you!" Avni made a frown face at him though he gave her his famous smirk. They didn't bother to move or stand up. They just remained in the position sharing an eye lock. After like a minute or two, Neil spoke up.
"Why do you look so upset?" Avni didn't get what he meant at first but later her face showed a more understanding expression.
"Neil. Daya.."
Avni was about to tell something when Shweta and Bebe entered the room.
"Oh my gods! TILLUUU!" Shweta turned around the other side as quick as she came with her palms covering her eyes.
Bebe also covered her eyes but wasn't as dramatic as Shweta.
Avni and Neil were stunned to see them. In a hurry they both tried to stand up but fell back again on the couch back to the same position and knocked their heads. After another try, they were safely standing red with embarrassment.
"Tillu puttar, yeh sab hall ke couch pe kyun nahi karte?" Bebe teased them a bit more for which Neil widened his eyes and Avni shut close her eyes tightly. Seeing their condition she laughed it off and didn't drag it further.
Shweta gave Avni what she brought for her. They were anklets made from white gold and went really well with her attire for the day. Bebe asked Neil who was stealing glances from the ladies to make her wear them. He got alarmed but still managed to obey her. He slowly took the anklets from his mom and went near Avni who was anxiously playing with her fingers. He made her sit slowly on the couch and dropped down to one knee. Hesistantly, Neil reached for her feet. They were ice cold. He put both the anklets on each of her feet and stood up looking her. She was looking all the way down as if she would bury herself any minute now.
"Enni soni lagrahi hai na bahurani tujpe yeh payal!" Bebe went near her and they exchanged hugs. Avni thanked Shweta for the gift. "Mentions not!" was her reply to which Avni looked at Neil and he smiled.
"Chal Madonna. Sab apna apna kaam continue karte hai." Before going out, bebe didn't miss the chance to tease both of them for the last time along with Shweta. They both laughed and left leaving behind an embarrassed couple.
Avni was going to make her way out of the room when Neil called from behind.
"You were saying something?" Neil feared she would ask about Dayawanti. Or maybe she knows? Is she going to ask him to let her go? His mind diverted in different directions.
"Yeah, about Daya.. ""Bahurani! Aapki maa aur sab aapse milne aayi hai. Bebe aapko bulaa rahi hai." This time Bhima cutt off Avni. Neil got frustrated but still he didn't say anything. Avni sent Bhima saying that she will be there in a minute. She turned to Neil who was waiting for her to speak
"Neil. It's okay. We can talk about it later." Saying this she went down to meet her family. Neil followed her. Neela, Nanno, Ali and Aman were seated in the hall. Shweta, Prakash and Bebe were also present there. Avni was surprised to see Aman. How is Aman with them? was her first question that she refrained from asking because of the Khannas.
Nanno and Neela hugged Avni and made her sit between them. They asked her about her health several times to which she replied the same. "Maa, Nanno, please don't worry! I am fine! You didn't even have to come in this heavy rain!" Neela and Nanno ignored her rantings.
"Wow! Besan ke laddoo!" Ali's excitement increased seeing his favourite food.
"Oh so you are here to eat laddoo and not to see me huh?" Avni said as she went and sat near Ali. They both talked to each other.
On the other side of Ali, Aman was sitting silently looking here and there at the house which was once his. The house he lost due to his cruel grandmother. That grandmother who destroyed his life. He couldn't dare to look at his sister due to all the wrong he had done to her along with Dayawanti Mehta. He was guilty but he didn't know how to become guiltfree and that made it difficult for him to make a bond with her.
"Aren't they the cutest of friends?" Neela jerked Neil's arm by hers and analysed his face as she said that. Since he came there he was continuously staring at Avni and Ali that Neela couldn't stop herself.
"Neela aunty! Your daughter is very cute! But this Ali? I'll think and tell." Neil said to her and went inside without waiting for her reply. Avni saw him go and excused herself and ran after him.
"What is this Avni? Did your head injury made you forget all of us except Neil huh?" Ali shouted from behind which Avni ignored.
"Neil!" Upon hearing her call Neil stopped by the poolside.
"Neil.. Aman is here? Dayawanti?" Avni asked confusion evident on her face. Neil told her that Aman even came to the hospital the day she regained consciousness. Avni was in a confused state that day that she had no idea what happened and what not.
Neil instantly understood what she was asking. He thought to himself. It was time for him to tell her everything. It was time for Avni-Dayawanti confrontation.
