It Hurts
"Ouch!" Shivanya scrunched her face and held her temple as a sharp piercing sound invaded her mind.
It was absolutely unbearable. The high pitched frequency of undoubtedly what had to be a sapera's tune was enveloping her entire being. The urge to break out of her outer shell and attack the invader was becoming ever so strong.
How dare he invade her privacy in such a heinous manner? How dare he try to provoke her to reveal her true identity out of her own free will? And for what? Just so that he could kill her?
No, the desire to kill him first was building up inside Shivanya. If it was inside her it was undoubtedly going to be twice as strong inside Sesha.
"Kya hua?" Shivanya looked up for a mere second but then quickly averted her eyes.
What if he saw her while she was in transformation? Rithik would have freaked out right then and there and her entire plan would have been ruined.
But the pain is becoming too much for her to bear right now.
Shivanya could feel that Sesha was running away from the sapera.
Lucky her, Shivanya thought. She has to be stuck here in a trapped room, be stuck in the form of a sickly girl all the while maintaining the urge to not angrily lash out someone.
"Kya hua? Mein kuch zyada tez bol ra hoon?" Rithik asked.
Just stop talking would you! Shivanya screamed at him in her mind. The last thing she needed right now was to have his incessant babbling to be running in overlap with the sapera's tune.
Remembering to stay in character, Shivanya answered.
"Shayad.. dawai asar karne lagi hai." She stammered not wishing to speak too much for she was slowly beginning to lose control of herself.
Her hands blocking her ears didn't do much as she could still hear and feel the piercing sound prick through her mind.
"Maine aap ka bataya tha na.. ke mujhe alopathy suit ni karti." Shivanya explained giving a valid and legitimate reason for her drastic change in health.
She dared to peek at him a little then quickly averted her eyes again.
He was concerned and was starting to feel guilty for forcing her to have the medicines.
At least something's going right, Shivanya thought.
"Oh, I'm sorry, mujhe pata ni tha.." Rithik began apologizing.
But it was briefly ignored as Shivanya felt a pain shoot through her fingertips as if something poked at her with a sharp object.
"Ouch!" She explained, as she looked down to examine her fingers.
She had kept her eyes closed and began focusing on maintaining her disguise. Her uninjured hand had been raised to touch her temple again, but it was beat by Rithik's hands.
They had arrived before her and had managed to cover both her ears. The length of his fingers were enveloped around the back of her head while the meaty flesh of his hands were wrapped around her ears.
Shivanya opened her eyes in surprise. A little to his action, mostly to the effect that it had.
The sapera's tune had stopped.
All Shivanya could hear right now was Rithik. Every fiber of his being was travelling through the course of her body. The blood pulsing through his hands, then going down his veins to his now rapidly beating heart. The way his breaths were coming in and out deeply and slowly. Every minute action of his was being registered through her brain.
There was a hidden intensity in his gaze but incredible softness too. The softness of being involved in an unknown, indescribable emotion. But the intensity of fulfilling it to the fullest once it has been acknowledged and claimed.
Shivanya averted her eyes as she felt herself heat up. She had never been accustomed to being treated nor seen in that way. She had never allowed herself to open up to that possibility. To have someone feel for her in that manner, no less an enemy... it was wrong.
How can a human like Rithik, who was shortly about to be wedded, ever fall for someone like her? But is he truly falling for her? Or is it the fictitious woman that she has created to dupe him and exact revenge upon his family? Will he support and continue to have the same feelings as he currently is once he finds out what her true motive is? Who she truly is?
Shivanya looked up and then immediately averted her eyes again, seeing that he was still subjecting her to the intense soft look.
Okay, so what if he is falling for her fictitious character. That's still acceptable. But her? Why is she being so affected by his gaze? He's going to get married soon and he's developing feelings for her in such a strong manner. Is he not technically cheating on his fiancee? How can you justify that action Shivanya?
Shivanya gulped as she was unable to provide the adequate answers.
You can't do this to yourself Shivanya. Forget the way that he feels or looks at you. Your one and only motive is to kill. Not to love. Forget the way that he made all the pain go away by one mere touch. You can't let one ounce of his love to drip on you or you will burn. Stop yourself before it's too late Shivanya.
There was a pull at heart that told her Sesha was in trouble. She was being attacked by the sapera and was in dire need of help.
See, that is where your loyalty lies Shivanya. With Sesha, with your own kind. NOT Rithik!
Shivanya raised her hands and covered Rithik's as a phsyical gesture to stop her conscience from speaking the truth. She couldn't forget the way her heart squeezed tightly when her mind told her that her loyalty cannot lie with Rithik.
What was happening to her? Is it a side effect of the sapera's tune? Is it deliberately trying to confuse her? Since she couldn't switch over physically, is her inner being switching over? But how could her years long patience and motivation be swayed away so easily? It can't be.
Rithik slipped his hands away from underneath hers.
The physical space that was created left her heart beating rapidly. There was a strange hole that was being created within her.
"Uh.." He took a step back, "Thoda better lag ra hai?"
Holding her head in both hands she glanced up at him then looked away again.
"Haan," She lied, "thoda bohot."
Shivanya wanted to rip her tongue out for speaking such a blatant lie.
She removed her hands from her temple and let the throbbing fade away into the background. As Rithik morphed into his usual babbling self, Shivanya's drumming heart provided a new pain for her to deal with.
This was something that she couldn't get Rithik to chase away. She would have to deal with it on her own and find an appropriate remedy.
But how will she describe the pain? There were no words to adequately identify the symptoms nor the root cause of the sickness. All she knew was that it hurts.
