Is Himesh Reshammiya worth Rs 5 crores?

Today, not just every top grade established actor in Bollywood is commanding in crores, also the relatively new ones are in the league. According to a recent buzz Himesh Reshmmiya who is just one film old as an actor has hiked his fees from Rs 1.5 crores to 5 crores. Though he has been in the industry since a long time, as an actor he has just been launched with only one film to his credit, and for a newcomer this figure is extremely high. The question arising is that does Himesh have a 5-crore market value?

To trail back, Himesh Reshammiya was in the entertainment business ever since the advent of satellite channels in India. Not many might be aware but Himesh started as a television producer financing shows on Zee TV and El TV in the early days. His stint with music started when he composed the title tracks for his TV soaps like Amar Prem and Andaaz.

He soon graduated to films with the kind support of Salman Khan composing for films like Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Hello Brother, Bandhan and Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge . Though he was always there in the rat race, it was Tere Naam that shot him to the top spot. Since then there was no looking back for the composer.

As a music director Himesh emerged at a time when the music industry needed to dance to a new tune. He redefined music in his own unique style by infusing techno music with an Indian touch, which was backed by simple lyrics. Then came Aashiq Banaya Aapne and the entire equation changed.

For the first time the composer took to the mike and churned chartbusting superhits like Aap Ki Kashish and Aashiq Banaya Aapne. Suddenly Himesh was transferred to a higher platform with his new identity. Despite being tagged as a nasal singer, his unusual vocals won him a huge audience. There wasn't a single album composed by Himesh which didn't have him singing as well. The musician acquired a new positioning which only boosted his confidence and fan-following.

Soon he indulged into private music albums on his own brand-value. T-Series imparted a 'face-value' to Himesh, converting all his private album tracks into music videos. From his tunes, to his vocals and now his face, Himesh became popular amongst his audience in an ascending manner in every possible medium. With the success of his music videos, T-Series decided to launch Himesh as an actor in Aap Ka Suroor . This was a big gamble.

But as is known to all by now, Aap Ka Suroor was one of the biggest surprise stories of 2007 and T-Series' gamble paid off. The movie got mixed response from critics but gained a decent audience. His fan-following helped his distributors gain good money. Aap Ka Suroor especially did well in the overseas territory and Himesh became a global phenomena. His musical concerts and world tours had already got him recognition in the international arena and with Aap Ka Suroor he got his standing as an actor too.

As per industry figures, he got Rs 1.5 crores for his act in Aap Ka Suroor. Soon after its success, Himesh was signed for a 3-film deal by T-Series. All the projects were planned from the onset. Currently Himesh is finishing the shoot of Karz remake directed by Satish Kaushik. His other two films include Pooja Bhatt's Kajra Re and John Mathew Matthan's A Love Issshstory . Apart from this 3-film deal, Studio 18 too has signed Himesh for a movie called Mud Mud Ke Na Dekkh Mud Mud Ke . And reportedly Himesh has now hiked his fee from Rs 1.5 crores to Rs 5 crores.

Undoubtedly one can say that over the period Himesh's market value has only ascended. On whether his remuneration is justified, Trade Analyst Atul Mohan says "It's not very high. One forgets that his remuneration also includes the music of the film. As a composer he commands around Rs 1.5 crores just for the tunes and music companies like T-Series are even willing to pay him Rs 2 crores as his music invariably sells. So if we break down the 5 crore remuneration, as an actor he gets around Rs 3 crores. Not bad keeping in mind that you don't get saleable stars at that price. The figure is justifiable considering Himesh is a complete package".

Also Himesh who was overexposed till recently is keeping a low profile now. Someone who composed around 15 albums an year till 2006 has cut down his work on the music front tremendously. Though Himesh was always a musician first, he is concentrating more on acting now. Presently he is only composing for the films that he is acting in. So when his film releases, his music fans will have something to look forward to after a long wait. The curiosity factor could work to his benefit.

To conclude, it can be recalled that Karan Johar had once quoted, "Today's crore is the lakh of 90s". So don't raise your eyebrows if Himesh is asking for Rs 5 crores.

Thanks.

5 crores for Himeshji is relatively cheap. Because Himeshji guarantees success of the Movie as he has a very strong fan base plus he provides a lot of extra excitement to the movie.

Also the actual cost is far less because there are a lot of savings. Firstly, the heroines and the rest of the actors need not be paid very much, secondly a lot of the musical arragements, singing and dancing costs are mostly taken care of because they come from Himesh's Team.

'I am vulnerable': Himesh
9 Apr 2008, 0000 hrs IST,HARSHA BHATNAGAR ,TNN

Himesh Reshammiya took up the cudgels against the biggies of the industry and proved that he has the spark to make it big, not just as a singer but also as an actor. Himesh has now gone on to lose oodles of weight and has even got a hair transplant done for his film Karzzzz. His transformation from a typical Gujarati dhokla boy (as he calls himself) into a dude isn't really over yet. In his forthcoming film Mudh Mudh Ke Na Dekh, Himesh will be seen flaunting a well-toned physique and will even take off his shirt. And he has hit the gym with a vengeance to acquire a flat torso. CT brings you actor-singer Himesh Reshammiya in a brand new avatar....

The new look
Shooting for his next film will commence in another two months and during this time, Himesh plans to eat right and exercise hard. Talking about his role, he says, "I play a professional swimming champ in the film and for that sporty look, I need perfect abs and cuts. There is this swimming scene, which will be shot in Paris. I am sure, people will love my lean, new look." And is he also working on his body to acquire six-pack abs? "Six-pack abs? Definitely before my sixth film," he answers wittily.

Winning over critics
Himesh's caricatures have made for hilarious forwards on the Internet and his nasal twang is ridiculed by many in the industry. But with Aap Kaa Surroor being a hit and a good four films landing in his kitty, has he finally been able to silence his critics?
To this, he promptly replies, " Aap Kaa ... was my first hit. But I have to be consistent in giving these hits. Secondly, I don't want to silence my critics, I want to win them over. There is still a section that has not accepted me as a singer or as an actor. Till the time that I win them over, my struggle continues.

Overcoming anger
"I was never a short-tempered person, but when people called me a nasal singer, I used to get very upset. Now I have accepted the fact that I am a nasal singer and it no longer bothers me. Also, I have been practising yoga and meditation, which have helped me in more ways than one," says he.

'I am vulnerable'
Himesh's popularity has steadily increased but he says he is as vulnerable and insecure as anybody else. It's a price every celebrity pays. "Yeh to kainaat ka niyam hai. Aaj chadav hai to kal utaar. I am scared of the day when the decline happens," he admits.Ask him what life has taught him and he says, "One lesson that I have learnt is that Karma and best wishes of the people decide one's fate."

Pooja Bhatt signs Pakistani actress Mona Laizza opposite Himesh

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, April 12, 2008 - 13:37 IST

T-Series's Kajraare directed by Pooja Bhatt had been announced a while back with none other than Himesh Reshammiya playing the lead. However the hunt for the female lead was still on.

Now it seems T-series and Pooja have finally found their leading lady. The lady in question is Mona Laizza a popular Pakistani T.V. actress.

"We were looking for a girl who had the innocence in her and was from Pakistan. It was not easy, Kajraare being an Indo-Pak love story. We checked out more than 70 girls and finally zeroed in on Mona Laizza. The look of the film is different and we are still in the process of finalizing the look of the characters", says T-Series creative director Divya Khosla Kumar.

Pooja Bhatt adds, "Javed Sheikh was very instrumental in helping us get Mona. She fits the role opposite Himesh perfectly and we are hoping Javedji will also do an interesting role in the film"

The Bhatts had earlier worked with another Pakistani actress Meera in their film Nazar which bombed at the box-office. Hope Mona Laizza proves lucky for Pooja and the team of Kajraare this time around. The film a love story starring Himesh as a lawyer would be shot in Lahore, Morocco and Europe.
